The Antlers – Every Night My Teeth Are Falling Out Lyrics 12 years ago
This song is brilliant. To me it seems like it's about a relationship that continues on after the couple have broken up. The first stanza is clearly referring to being drunk and her calling him drunk. The line "You and I, divine but not devout" to me says the relationship was wonderful but they can't seem to stay committed to each other. "You and I, divorced but not devout" seems to be saying the opposite that even though they have split the aren't committed to staying apart either.

M83 – Midnight City Lyrics 12 years ago
I think you've almost got it. The only thing difference i hear is "Waiting for a car, waiting for a ride in the dark" instead of waiting in the car, waiting for a ride to the club.

Lead Belly – Where Did You Sleep Last Night? Lyrics 13 years ago
BTW the Mark Lanegan is decent but when compared to nirvanas unplugged or lead belly's original can't hold a candle. Saying the nirvana version is better than lead belly's is like comparing apples to oranges though they both strike me differently depending on my mood.

Lead Belly – Where Did You Sleep Last Night? Lyrics 13 years ago
From the version that lead Belly copied this line is in the voice of the husband "My girl, my girl, don't lie to me Tell me where did you sleep last night" The next line was the wife answering "In the pines, in the pines, where the sun don't ever shine I would shiver the whole night through". It goes on like that for a while until the wife gets a full stanza "My husband was a hardworking man Killed a mile and a half from here His head was found in a driving wheel And his body hasn't ever been found".

Interpol – Public Pervert Lyrics 16 years ago
Comparing Interpol and Joy Division is Lazy. The similarities are minimal. If anything they seem more influenced by echo and the bunnymen. The guitar in this song cemented my belief that Kessler=Best guitarist of the 2000's.

Arthur Conley – Sweet Soul Music Lyrics 16 years ago
Corrections: "we are here on the floor now" is "Were out here on the floor, y'all" and "Ah dont he look tall, y'all" about lou rawls is "Ah dont he look boss, y'all" & about same and dave is "Ah, don't they look great, y'all" & about Wilson Pickett is "That wicked wicked pickett". I love this song you really can hear that unique Sam Cooke song writing style in it and yes Sam Cooke did write the song with help from Arthur conley and Otis Redding JR.

VHS Or Beta – Burn It All Down Lyrics 16 years ago
Cant believe no ones commented on this great song yet. I keep being drawn to the religious refrences in this song. My guess is its about his frustration with religion or the whole system but i have no idea what it really is about just a guess.

Portugal. The Man – AKA M80 The Wolf Lyrics 16 years ago
I dont think this song represents the relationship between record execs and artists. "Would you only use Blues" doesnt seem to be a demand, and rivers usually are blue. "Paint me that arm
That lies directly over mountains" seems to be talking about the sky and theres no demand or suggestion on how to paint it. The way he delivers the lyrics give me the feeling hes asking someone to paint him a picture. but i cant detect the meaning. While i think most of you are wrong it is what you want it to be. To each his own.

The Decemberists – Los Angeles, I'm Yours Lyrics 17 years ago
This song to me is not nearly as much of a hate song as much as it is a love song. The overall idea and topic is that he loves LA. Like everyone who comes to LA at first all you see is the beauty and how great LA is. You see the mixture of cultures how LA really is the center of the world. How everything can come together and be so wonderful. Once you spend sometime exploring LA for all it is, from the ghettos of East and South LA to the Rich neighborhoods of north LA you see the problems that face the city. The line "An ocean’s garbled vomit on the shore" says it all for me. You go to different beaches in LA and you see some of the worlds most beautiful beaches then only half a mile away you see the Long Beach shore and all the nasty foam and I wonder how it can change from such beautiful beaches to a beach i wouldnt get my feet wet in. This song i think is him expressing how hes torn because of the beauty and appeal of Los Angeles then the bad making him want to turn away. Thats why i think he focused on the bad like the rich and shallow upper class the the poor poverty stricken Crackheads both of which are the minority in LA. but he always comes back to "Los Angeles, I’m yours".

The Band – The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down Lyrics 17 years ago
I think Stoneman had served under or atleast with Sherman. Its where he learned about destroying the supply lines and burning everything in his path to demoralize and embarass the southerners even though the war was over or atleast all but over. Thats one of the reasons the south still resents the north and feels like the old confederacy and Robbi reckongized this and it was his motivation for the song atleast thats my opinion.

Ive listned to this song too many times to count and never have thought about it in terms of finding love. Ive alwas thought it was talking about finding inner peace and ones place on this world and in society. Thats what it means to me its greater then just another silly Love song.

America – Sister Golden Hair Lyrics 17 years ago
I love this song. This is my favorite song of all time right ahead of Heart of Gold, Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, Lilly Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts, While My guitar Gently Weeps. I think after The Band America is the most underrated band of All Time.
