props to scottp for being the only person that i've read who knows what this song is about. it's set up so on the surface it's a love-song, but really it's about the subject being in denial about being the other woman. fucking brilliant lyrics i would say.

this song is NOT about being raped. Yea she was raped, so the fuck what, that doesn't mean you have to look for it as a subject where it's not.
This is what she said the song was about in a 1997 interview with Tracey Pepper:
FA: When [video director] Mark Romanek showed me his treatment, I called Andy [Slater, Apple's manager] and said, "This is Fiona taking off her clothes in the kitchen; Fiona lying by the pool naked; Fiona in underwear, naked." Then I called Mark and we talked about his idea that the song is about guilty pleasures and sexual deviance - me being in this house full of people, going around and experimenting, feeling a little bad about it, but enjoying it all the same. It corresponded with my meaning of the song. |

i agree that sad and fatal should have been on binarual and are maybe the two best pearl jam songs (what the hell were they thinking leaving it off) but evacuation is still a good song.
I burned the perfect binaural album the way it should be, replace "breakerfall" with "sad" put "hitchhiker" after evacuation (optional) and replace "sleight of hand" with fatal. I strongly reccomend it |

I always took the song to mean a guy who has a fast life style and because of it has to go to jail and thus has to end it with chloe. He loves her but feels uncomfortable in committed relationships so he's cool with the whole thing. |

there's no way mother love bone would have been better than pearl jam, that being said, if he didn't die, who knows, maybe mike mcready and eddie form kickass bands of their own. I mean, mcready's side project Mad Season was unbelievable and that was just a side project. Furthermore, MLB wouldn't have lasted very long probably anyway, which would have allowed stone and jeff to do other things which could have been great as well |
