One more exhibit that TC sings my life. This song, as well as many others by her hit home-hard. After 5 years of marriage, I found myself separated and moved close to my family which happened to be all the way across the country. I thought to myself over and over again if I would ever consider going back. Exactly every character of this song expresses exactly the feelings that I had for such a long time while going through all of that. A break-up is very hard. Nevertheless, there are still profound feelings that don't just go away when you leave. People still love each other and distance will tell if there is still enough love that will transcend the problems and whatever other situation that leads to this. If people still have a place in each others hearts, It is possible to mend the differences and return to this place of safety and comfort. A place where all the journey's end. I cried when I heard her sing it live in concert. I get teary still everytime I hear it on CD. |

This song is very deep. One feels there is no more hope. If they never wake up again and see another sun, they won't have to face trouble, sorrow, sadness, hardship and many other trials of life. Someone else will feel those things instead. |

To me, this song speaks of a very broken person. A woman comes to mind. It is ovbious that this woman has constructed a heavy amount of walls around her emotions. She has been through many things. Perhaps she has been through one bad relationship after another and is completely torn apart . Maybe she was once a person who was very loving and giving, but problems have made her turn away from the warm hearted, trusting person she once was. She has tried to figure out what happened and tried to know exactly where this took place, but is not able to. She actually still has feelings and emotions, but will not surface just yet. This song is so beautiful.. Kinda hits home. Tracy Chapman sings my life. |

This song speaks of the world that we live in, HERE! She is saying that everyone is always saying the only way that we will be truly happy and at peace is when we die and go to a place called Heaven. This song speaks of Heaven Here On Earth. Since we are here now, we all together collectively have the chance to make the world this place of remarkable joy. "I've seen and met angels wearing the disguise of ordinary people living ordinary lives filled with love and compassion, forgiveness, and sacrifice"(this is a figure speech). There are many people who freely give, freely help, and have a true heart of gold. If we just have faith in humankind (the people in the world around us) and respect for what is earthly and we believe that truth is divinity, this could be heaven here on earth. We need to look around and believe in the things and people around us because we are already here. The promise land is at our feet. We dont' need to wait to die to live peacefully. We can do this now. |
