When I first heard this, I thought I'd let my Christian grandparents listen to this... Now that I've looked more closely at the lyrics... That is not going to happen.
The 'story book' from the chorus is the Bible. The non-chorus lines are about the prophesized things that don't seem to be happening. The 'we would follow and not defy' seems to be the strongest example.
While I can't let my grandparents hear this, at least I don't have to feel bad for liking something pro-Christian. |

Call it a shot in the dark, but I think it's about Lucifer. The line "I'm not real, just believed in," makes me think of some religous figure, while the discussion of perfection makes Lucifer come to mind.

Don't you see, orionpax? I hate God BECAUSE he is omnipotent. He has the power to do anything, yet chooses to leave the world this fucked up. Christians will claim that it's "to test us", "to give us the oportunity to choose", or "to teach us something". God could have created us already holding that knowledge. He knew what we would choose before he made us, but he made damned souls like myself anyway. I despise God because every bad thing happens because of his own shortsightedness, but he blames us nonetheless. No torture could be worse than worshipping that twisted beast you call a deity. |

painted faces frown, just because one worships Satan does not mean that one does not believe in God. I think the idea behind many of Deicide's songs is to say, "God is such a bastard, that I'd rather burn for eternity than kneel at his altar." I don't believe in God, but really, I wouldn't worship him even if I did. |

I'm gonna have to disagree with you, last-dodo, though you did inspire my guess. I think it's about how we are treated as objects by the system, how we are tricked into acting like machines. Of course, this is the view of one who has figured out just how much his emotions have been puppetted by the media (example: Uncle Sam tried to inject hate for Iraq into our minds before the war, never thinking how much that lie could hurt when it came out). I think this agrees more with the anti-government, anti-mass media message of Arch Enemy. |

I love the images this song cascades through my head. I see a man and a woman, screwing over the world for their own gain. Then I see everyone else in the world, men, women, even children, banding together aginst this new threat. They don't really expect the human race to survive, but there's nothing else they can do. |

I think the lyrics are wrong. There's a line that should read "They won. They will come to life"
This song comes closer to describing me than anything I've ever heard. I think she's describing the darkness, the evil, within herself. It's always there. It's always struggling to break free, and it never tires. She knows that she can't control it forever. Eventually it will overwhelm her. Eventually she'll be the little voice inside, struggling to break free, instead of the other way around. |

I'm not sure what the song is supposed to mean, but whenever I hear the chorus "It's so easy to destroy and condemn, the ones you do not understand" I think about my best friend. We got into an argument almost a month ago. Five days later I tried calling her. She hung up eleven seconds into the conversation. We haven't spoken since. |
