William Fitzsimmons – Funeral Dress Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think it's about the death of a love Like this woman is picking out her wedding dress for her wedding to the guy she's settling for, and while she's doing so she's thinking about the one who she really loves--and who probably loves her back but is unavailable in some way. I don't think he's dead, I think he's unprepared/unavailable emotionally or logistically the timing just wasn't right between the two even though the connection was. And she' thinking that she can't wait for him to be ready/available but she hopes that he'll remember what they could have had when he gets to the point when he wants to have a relationship of that level and that he'll be a little sad the death of a love--maybe one that was never even real to begin with |
Iron & Wine – The Trapeze Swinger Lyrics | 15 years ago |
this is one of those songs that is so momumentally beautiful that you have to appreciate it word by word, verse by verse, and beat by beat. it shows the progression of how life goes. how it's painful, how it's perfect, how you want to forget things, and demand that you remember others. to me, this is definitely a song in the past tense---of looking back and wishing the speaker had had more time with someone the references to the pearly gates may not be death but a general sense of separation--even if it's physical or emotional distance (the end of a relationship, not just romantic, but mental that was so deep that it feels like death when it's broken)--and how small things remind you of that person...things you loved about them, things you hated, how those memories make you happy and want to cry; their mannerisms, nuances. it all comes back to the central memory of the time with the circus which speaks to the oddities and chaos of life and how it's so dazzling and beautiful, but in the end...the tent comes down. it's definitely one of the most perfect songs i've ever heard. |
Joshua Radin – No Envy, No Fear Lyrics | 15 years ago |
this song is so pure. it's a beautiful way of putting things in perspective. and it's a great motto. |
Brand New – The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot Lyrics | 16 years ago |
it's beautiful, it's perfect it's everything a relationship really is: ups and downs, do i let go, do i hold on? do i try and move on and forget? or do i always keep that piece of him/her with me? "you are the smell before rain, you are the blood in my veins"-- he/she is elemental. there is no leaving this person behind they have become a part of your environment. the removal of it is as wrong as losing blood or missing that smell that we all take for granted. this song is so simple and in its simplicity, it is gorgeous. cheers brand new |
The Academy Is... – Everything We Had Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Brand New – Jesus Christ Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Brand New always uses really well placed biblical references and they're always very poignant. but i forget which verse it is but in the bible there is story of a man who hears the god calling him and tries to wake the other man in the house and the other man says he didn't hear anything and later on the other man explains that it was God calling to the first man and that God is quiet as a thief in the night until he makes himself known to you |

Ben E. King – Stand By Me Lyrics | 17 years ago |
OMG Ben E King's version is the oldie and the goodie. You don't get much better than that heartfelt old stuff from when things were simpler, sweeter, and honest |
Taking Back Sunday – My Blue Heaven Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It sounds like this child has been shown things that he does not know how to cope with--overwhelmed, basically--and all he wants to hear is that everything is ok. Kind of like when you're small and a movie frightens you because you think it's real, no matter how a 5 year old brain tells itself it's just a movie, all that 5 year old wants is to hear that no one can hurt him/her. "you're safe child you are safe" and it sounds like this grown up's inner insecurity coming out "am i coming through?", "is it all too familiar?" |
The Decemberists – O Valencia! Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think that the singer remotely sounds like Brandon Reilly from Nightmare of You the song also has that really catchy happy tune to it when the subject matter is somewhat dark. I think it's great. Just my thoughts. |
Something Corporate – Just Like a Woman (Bob Dylan cover) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
sheer genius. i love bob dylan and i love andrew |
Brand New – The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot Lyrics | 17 years ago |
if there is anything that i have ever heard that accurately described the feeling of someone who takes over you--for good or bad--and you feel like everywhere you turn there is that person it is the line "you are second hand smoke" smoke permeates through everything and we are not always aware that it is there. |
Bright Eyes – A Song to Pass the Time Lyrics | 17 years ago |
the part where he says "making I have heard them sing in the shower and making speeches to their sister on the telephone Saying, You come home Darling, you come here" really touches base with me. i fight a lot with my sister but at the end of it all, she's one of the closest people to me. |
Jimmy Eat World – Hear You Me Lyrics | 17 years ago |
at senior grad there's a sildeshow at my school. in that we get to write messages to our parents, siblings, grandparents, friends, anyone this is for my grandparents. i would sing for crowds and i always just brushed it off when they asked me to. and it's not fair that they're gone. |
Brand New – Guernica Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Guernica is referenced in Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie. In the passage the character, Tom, is speaking about taking matters into his own hands and having a lasting effect on the world. He goes to the movies every night instead of actually living. In the monologue he says that every person deserves the adventure that the movies fake. Eventually Tom leaves and changes his own life. That leaves me believing that in Jesse's and Williams' contexts, Guernica stands for anything that has shown a deliberate act that changes history and/or the lives of the characters/people |
Taking Back Sunday – ...Slowdance on the Inside Lyrics | 17 years ago |
it's just amazing. period. pretty much something big went down and the most moving stuff is in the last lines "this glass house...what i was" perfection. utter perfection. |
