I really don´t understand perfectly this song, but maynard -in their APC DVD a-motion- talks about this song. He said that, hanging out with some friends, one of them, who had been in rehab, said this sentence: "my halo was slipping down", and maynard went home and wrote it right it. He loved that line and use it for writing the song. He explains some more things that I can´t remeber right now, but if you would like some explanations, you should buy the DVD. Is great, the videos, the interviews, etc. They also explain that they discuss a lot (the members of the band) to complete the song. i hope this help. This is one of my favourite Bush songs. And I think it´s message is clearer than any other songs gavin had wrote. Targeter is quite right. Every line makes much sense that rossdale is speaking about our post-modern way of life, with the huge consumist exitence that fill our lives: Verse 1 is about letting this big machine enter your head and starting to control you, hence "I let the monster through" Verse 2 is just about the same as verse 1 but more detailed, like perfect black dress, perfect grave. Even in death, the glamour, the big companies wantsyour money. Chorus is such more clear: "feel invincible, computer, car anf girl", all the things that makes you a perfect citizen, a fucking yuppie that reduces his life on to this sort of materialism thinking lines like "pretend we´re great" or "dress my apathy" is like, no matter who you really are and what you feel, whar really matters is how society looks you, how they conceive, and you have to be a cool fucking bastard. Finally, the reference to "jesus" is that everything is for sale, you want something, you buy it, it doesn´t matter, if you got the money, you have it. "She" is the huge system that controls everything. Well, that is my interpretation, maybe not correct. |

| I agree with drug theme. Many songs (or every song) in the album is about disillusioment, unhapiness, uncomfort, etc. I think they leave love songs for the last tracks, like glycerine and alien. But songs like everything zen, swim, machinehead had a pesimist view of the world, and so does comedown. Rossdale was a fucking drug addict, and like maynard james keenan from tool said, "when there´s no pain, there´s no will to create either". | |

the explanations above give a light about the meaning of the lyrics. But what´s the name meaning?. second verse is very clear though. Another doubt: why do they miss it up at the begining of the song in purpose? I think that´s one of the clues to understand the song. There must be an error, or something goes wrong, something they didn´t planned... |

whohemademe and blksky: why you choose this forum to explain things that are not related with the theme un here? i have no problem with your religious message, but I think you can go to religious web page, can´t you? and blksky, you really think PJ song´s are that superficial?, I think you haven´t been paying attention to the lyrics. Nirvana and PJ didn´t go on so well, but that doesn´t mean one is over another, just 2 great bands. I agree with the nowadays lifestyle version of the song, there are so many things we just don´t need, we have lost the true meaning of life. |
