Alicia Keys – How It Feels to Fly Lyrics 13 years ago
I too am surprised at how little comments there are on such a beautiful song.

"Have you ever felt so strong,
That it made you feel weak?"
^I love how this appears to be contradictory but explains love perfectly - it's the only thing you can feel so strongly that it makes you weak and dependent.

"Have you ever felt so lost,
But didn't know 'til you were found"
^Has anyone ever found you and you wondered how you ever lived without them? You don't ever consider there is anything to fix (because you have become accustomed) until they come in and mend it.

"In a room full of people,
You feel like no one's around"
^Yes. Caught up in your own thoughts and know no-one else could possibly understand and you could never explain.

Bloc Party – Signs Lyrics 15 years ago
Before reading the other comments, I am going to put my view across so sorry if it seems anything is repeated.

I think that this song is about someone that has died. The signs are reminders of the person.

The second verse suggests to me that she was dying as "There was something that was not there", she didn't want to tell him in order not to hurt him, but now he can't breathe without her.

He sees her in his dreams and she looks better than before. He reassures himself her presence is still there and she is not dead but sleeping. And will believe any of the 'signs' he sees if it means she will come back or is still there.

One of my favourite songs on the new album. Is beautiful and just lulls you. And I think that with the lyrics, the song is meant to be lulling.

--xprincess What doesn't make sense is:
"Link em, and then leave em man"

It should be "leave em high" - like you said mash and dash. Mash em, they want it again, they high on the guy.

Sense made to peoples? Not hard to get what it means.

Alicia Keys – No One Lyrics 16 years ago
[Obvious what it's about so I will not waste time discussing that.]

Tis a beautiful song full stop.

People have said that they don't like her 'screamy' voice; I feel sorry for such people that evidently do not understand and can feel the emotion of this song:

Now, I know this is just a song and there is probably no story behind it, but sometimes it's good to think outside of the song. The emotion in her voice could be her reassuring her guy that she will love him no matter what people say because she knows she is lucky to have him. Maybe this guy was worried she was going to stop loving him because of what people were saying and that she might be going off him [I know some people search the world/To find something like what we have...I'm telling you there is no one...no one/
Can get in the way of what I feel for you]

Yes it's a beautiful song and to all those that think her voice does not suit this, just try to think outside of the box.

PHWOAR! Is all I can say to this song. I love it. It is all I could not say, but now I can. My fave part is

"High fives to a better judgement
By saying less today I will gain more
Low twos to you my fickle friend
Who brought the art of silent war"

Just says it all for me right now.

IncubusACLOTM: "he'd rather just ignore the feelings he still has for this person than try to get back with them and lead to a bleeding heart." - I never saw it that way before ; thanks!

Stone Sour – Through Glass Lyrics 16 years ago
Sorry if this has already been said, but I can't be reading 6 pages of comments.

From the few I have read, I have to agree with it being about the whole Hollywood fake thing. Although I can totally see how it's someone either in rehab or some kinda mental institute or whatever.

Just a thought: 'through the glass' could be the television set? Because that's how we see the stars. And it feels like home because this is all we have seen for most of our lives; stuck in front of the TV.

That is my thought and what I personally get from it.

Bloc Party – So Here We Are Lyrics 16 years ago
Drugs, yes Bloccaz do like to write songs about drugs. I'm not going to argue that it is not about drugs because they wrote it, they know what it's about. I still myself prefer looking at the song as being about a relationship because drugs don't mean anything to me. Tis just me. And again, what skillage on the part of the lyrics how many different interpretations they can have, make complete sense yet truly mean one thing. Sensicle?

Bloc Party – So Here We Are Lyrics 16 years ago
Ok, before looking at the other comments, I am going to put what it means to be so I can think of it with a clear head and no one else's influence on me if that makes sense...so sorry if I repeat stuff!

"I caught a glimpse/But it's been forgotten/So here we are/Again" - That tells me that it is about a relationship. It is as relationships go...they argue and things aren't always perfect. So this person catches a glimpse of what they can do to make the relationship perfect, but it was only a glimpse so they forget it and because this person doesn't know what to do, they are in the same mess...all over again; he has forgotten what he is meant to do.

"I made a vow/To carry you home" - the fact that 'vow' is used suggests to me they could be married [but they may not be]. It is almost as if he is remembering the vows he made that he will be there forever despite everything so he now needs to decide what he is going to do because he must...as he has made a vow. [With me so far?]

"I really tried/To be what you wanted/It all went wrong/Again" - So, he tries really hard to be what she wants but it is perhaps not what she wants so it goes wrong...again. Simple.

"I made a vow/To carry you home/If you feel sick/If you pass out" - He feels like giving up at this point because it is as if he cannot do anything right...but he thinks of the vows and this reminds him he has to keep trying.

"I figured it out//I can see it again" - He carries on trying and he is rewarded because he figures out how to make it all better, the glimpse comes back to him and he knows what he has to do.

Ok, that is my ideas. My interpretation. Not necessarily right, but how I read it.

cmgonemad: it could be pure coincidence about the connection to the poem...yet it could be an intentional link and if it is; well spotted and how clever on the part of Bloc Party. You can never be off base by the way because it is what the song means to YOU so analyse it as much as you want! Over-analyse it, at least it means you are a good thinker!

Bloc Party – On Lyrics 16 years ago
I do see how this song is about drugs. It makes complete sense.

That is why I love Bloc Party so much...they are art. They just have this way of writing obscure songs that take some thinking about [most people don't know how to do this today, they prefer the lyrics obvious...boring] and you may think it means one thing, and it makes sense to have that meaning, but then you find out what it really is about, and that too makes perfect sense. That I have to say does take skill.

To me, I still prefer to think of it as a sweet love song because the words are perfect for that [as well as what it is really about].

On the drug idea...people always comment about the lyrics, but if you think of the music for a few seconds, the whole sound [I don't know how to describe this well] is kinda heavenly and light, maybe the feeling someone gets when they take drugs. There is this slow build up and then the song slightly changes when it gets to 'You make my tongue lose' a kinda climax...to the drug I am guessing, and then the drum beat changes afterward...maybe emphasising the feeling this person is getting from drug taking and the excitement etc.

Not sure if I explained myself well there and I don't expect you to agree because it is just MY personal interpretation. Any other ideas...?

Hundred Reasons – The Perfect Gift Lyrics 17 years ago
Another good song from Hundred Reasons.

I think this song is just bout people in general. When something goes wrong we often blame other people. It's just our nature - we always feel like we have to be right. Why don't we for once admit that we are wrong thus getting rid of the 'dirt' on our hands. In my opinion, we often believe what we here from gossip or through the media and are quick to put other people's opinions and beliefs down. Why can't we for once admit them? Why do we have to pretend we know everything?

The chorus about songs breaking hearts I think is true. When we have strong feelings sometimes, people find that they express their emotion through songs/poetry. And when we write songs with raw emotion it might hurt some people. It could also mean that we are too quick to accept things and get the wrong end of the stick. Why can't we just all be different? It would be, in some respects, the perfect gift because then we would all get on.

That is my take on the song. It is probably nothing to do with what it actually means. What do you all think?

Forget:

"For me, the end is loving so much you begin to hate them because you can't have them and you want them so much. You hate everything they are because it's made you love them so much. But then you try to make it better and accept them as just a friend."

That is nothing to do with the song. I was getting too wrapped up in what it means to me and slightly changing it.

To 'ROCKOWNTZU'. I would just like to tell you, incase you had not noticed, that this site is called 'SongMeanings' so that should in te first place give you a clue as to what this site is about. But from your comment I guess that you don't understand. I will explain for you. This is a site where we talk about what songs mean. I'm sorry but I don't know how to explain it simpler. Forgive me if you still do not understands. Seems as though you are in the minority of people, oh no, perhaps just yourself, that do not actually understand what this site is about. If it wasn't already obvious enough, just above the comment box it says: 'What does this song mean to you?' thus suggesting that we write what the song means to you. I'm stating the obvious really, but you cannot seem to see it. We will therefore continue to talk and debate about the songs. We will also talk about whether we like it or not in our explanation. To be honest, a song can't really mean mush to you if you don't like it. Therefore, it is safe to assume that most people do like the song they are commenting on. I hope this puts your mind at rest and you understand this site. I will be surprised if you managed to read this as you cannot even spell or write properly yourself. I usually have pity for people like you.

I think this song pretty much speaks for itself mostly. I agree with what most of what has been said so far but we all of course take a song and make it our own by the way we relate to it.

'Someone takes my picture (takes my picture), But never looks me in the eyes' that says to me that the perosn you love so much knows that you are there but they never take any notice of you even though you both know you are there.

The rest of the song like most have said is craving them, wanting them so much, you can't live without them, they make you happy and feel like life is worth it. They make everything great. But it's hard to understand why they hate you or don't like you in the same way when for you, they are your life, the only reason why you still wake up in the morning.

I really like the end because it's a happy turn on the song. It's like everything is accepted and they become friends.

For me, the end is loving so much you begin to hate them because you can't have them and you want them so much. You hate everything they are because it's made you love them so much. But then you try to make it better and accept them as just a friend.

Well that's my take on it. The song means A LOT to me.

Just to add, has anyone got any ideas about the video? I don't quite understand it. This may sound really stupid, but I make up my own videos in my head, and for this song it was at a club, kinda like how Bloc Party were. I'm not keen on the video and think that I like mine better! But, before people start having a go at me...if I understand the video then maybe I will understand.

I would just like to make clear, as I always do: lyrics are subjective and you can interpret them in the way you want whether right or wrong. I like to say that before my views get trashed by some know-it-all. I don't know it all and I'm sorry!

Anyway, I thinking it's about looking back on life and wishing you could've done something different. It's about trying to escape them but wanting to do something better, or do it go back and start over.

That's how I see it and what it means to me. What do the rest of yuo think?

Yeah. This is another great song by Bloc Party in my opinion.

To me it is about wanting to be noticed just for once - show people what you are made of, maybe even surprise them. Maybe even show that one special person that has never noticed you before that you are amazing.

Well that i my personal take on the song and what it means to me. I listen to it and feel so good!

I agree with Intrik about the chorus. Is great that you even attempted to write the lyrics as I really love this song. Is on repeat at the moment. I think it is just beautiful.

Lyrics are really subjective and I guess it is only the band knows what it is truly about, however, we can interpret it the way we want and the way I interpret it is this:

This song is about meeting someone you've met before and there is just a bond, they make you feel something that no-one else does, you can be yourself and the words come easily. The person in the song can "charm them all" but that does not matter because there is only one person that they truly love.
