Modest Mouse – Alone Down There Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It's simple. It's about alienation in a consumerist society & abit of meta-physics. 'How do, how do you do? My name is you ' meta-physics. It's exploring the idea of 'being'. 'Flies, they all gather around me and you too' Seems like anger aimed at himself & others for being idiotic consumers. 'You ask me what size it is, not what I sell' seems to be aimed at the greedy consumerist mentality. 'The Devil's apprentice he gave me some credit He fed me a line and I'll probably regret it' Again it's a criticism of capitalism. The Devils apprentice would be advertisers, politicians etc. 'I don't want you to be alone down there To be alone down there, to be alone' He wants out, he doesn't like the whole system. I know that wasn't a concrete analysis of the track but I think im right about what the lyrics mean. Especially because they are all re-ocuring themes in Isaacs lyrics. |
Modest Mouse – Other People's Lives Lyrics | 17 years ago |
fuckin hell....this song is to good. well the lyrics are some of Isaac's are simplest. 'other people's lives seem more interesting cuz they aint mine' not very cryptic...i think the rest of the lyrics are mainly narratives of situations that reflect the above quote. its a sort of 'we all live boring lives. we barely interact properly. things arnt so innocent, everything is sinister' the story he tells seems to be a recuring one...it seems to be mentioned in Out of Gas, Drammamine, Karma Payment....maybe more. |
Modest Mouse – Dashboard Lyrics | 17 years ago |
'These lyrics are seriously incomplete. Why bother putting them up?' i got them from a live performance, different and incomplete from the current single. so they were complete at the time they were played thats why, dickhead |

Modest Mouse – Summer Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this songs lyrics are very simplistic in terms of there content compared to most other Modest Mouse songs but still as moving as most. it seems to be a song very personal to Isaac and he seems to be referencing his personal nostalgia inducing memories. it seems to simply be about being young, romantic and about beauty. very upbeat and a masterpiece in songwriting, not the reason began to love Modest Mouse but a reason to make me love them more. |
Modest Mouse – Gravity Rides Everything Lyrics | 17 years ago |
to begin with i thought this song was a upbeat song about problems working themselves out but on second thoughts (with a greater understanding of Isaac's lyrics) i now believe it is about human insignificance and how we are still just mass that is effected in the same way as everything else in the universe and out problems are insignificant. i think gravitys effect on us is a metaphore for this. |
Modest Mouse – Talking Shit About a Pretty Sunset Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this song is near perfect, the lyrics are the archetypal Modest Mouse view of alienation in small town life and feelings of confusion that you face whilst attempting to understand your role and consequentially becoming alienated from yourself. i can completely relate to this song |
