Dream Theater – In the Presence of Enemies Pt.2 Lyrics 16 years ago
Marvelous, simply marvelous!!! This is it folks, the best of Dream Theater's prodigious musical skill.

Lyrics: 10/10

Structure: 10/10

Theme: 10/10

Vocals: 10/10

Drums: 10/10

Bass: 10/10

Keyboards: 10/10

And last but not least...

Guitar: 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000/10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

Whew!!! That's a lot of fuckin' zeroes!!!

John Petrucci=Guitar God

As I've said, this is Dream Theater's best song, at least in my opinion, and possibly my favorite song of all time (tied with Return To Serenity by Testament).

I interpret it as a man who feels abandoned by his faith and his God, and so he turns to a being who claims that he can help this man seek revenge on his enemies and gain great powers. This being is actally an evil tempter, who makes these promises, but only values this man's service, and feels no care for him, and when the time is right, will betray his servant when his usefullness is over. At the end, the man realizes the true nature of his master, and rejoins the faith he had abandoned previously, therefore saving his soul from hell (the dark master is most likely Satan himself), and regaining both his salvation, and his faith in God.

I am proud to say that this is the last song I will leave a comment under as Thrash Metal Rulez. I have decided at last to change my user name. So from now on, my comments will be uttered under the name DreamMetallica2112.

Rock on forever fellow metalheads, rockers, musicians, and outcasts.

Dream Theater – Forsaken Lyrics 16 years ago
Pure gold. The only flaw with the song as far as I'm concerned is that it's too short. I think it should have a=had another verse, and 3 more minutes of shredding solos. Other than that...absolutely brilliant!!! Dream Theater is my #1 band, and this is one of their greatest songs.

I agree with what most of the people said about it being about a vampiress.

Man this song is funny. It's so dumb that it makes you crack up whenever you listen to it. Also, watch the videos that people have made for this song on youtube, they make it (if possible!) even funnier!

Awesome song. If I'm not mistaken, it's about the Lovecraft story "Dreams In The Witch House." The woman is the witch Keziah Mason. Too bad they don't mention Brown Jenkin the rat. To find out more, read "Dreams In The Witch-House."

Neil Young – Southern Man Lyrics 16 years ago
Amen gratefulfloyd28, you're one of the only people on here that I've seen talk sense.

Everyone on this page should seriously stop going for one another's throats!!! It's this sort of shit that leads to lasting bad feelings.

To my fellow "Yankees"-We need to stop giving our Southern bretheren such a hard time. Why do you think they call us damn yankees? I don't particularly care for Confederate flags being displayed carelessly, I only like them when they are shown with something else, such as Lynyrd Skynyrd or Pantera band t-shirt, that shows it's not being displayed as rascist propaganda. Only if it defenitly being used as a symbol of hate do I want to strip it off the place it's hanging, burn it, and piss on the ashes. Not all southerners are rascists. Plenty are, but I think that there's just as many rascists up here as there are anywhere in the U.S.

To the Southerners-I certainly don't hate the rebel flag itself (unless it really it being used a symbol of hate), and I'm against so many people giving you all a load of shit about it. I'll admit though, I was always for the North in the Civil War, I always felt the South was wrong to break away, and I have always felt that rascism, segregation, and institutional hatred was evil and morally wrong. I'm not saying that all of you are rascists (a very good friend of mine lives in North Carolina, and he's certainly not a rascist), but for those who are, the question is why? Is it irrational fear, is it hunger for power, and fear that equality between people of all races will lead to a loss of it, is it that you get some sick, perverted pleasure from watching other people suffer, and you choose someone with a different skin color and culture to bear the brunt of your sadism, or are you just an extreme conformist who believes that anyone who is not white, anglo-saxon, and protestant is not a true American, that they do not deserve to live here, and to solve the "problem," you adopt that "us and them" attitude? You know, there's nothing I hate more than the "us and them" attitude. And if people are going to call me a hypocrite for being too judgemental and hating rascists while preaching against hatred, then I'll say this right now. I don't always hate rascsists themselves (except for Hitler, most of the Nazi officials, the KKK members, past and present, and any other kind of extremist), I just hate rascism itself, because a rascist is not always a bad person, sometimes they are misguided, at least I would hope that's the only reason for someone's rascism if they absolutely have to be one. But misguided rascism or not, I refuse point blank to listen to music with any sincere rascist messages, no matter how good their music is (for example: Graveland, Absurd, or Skrewdriver [there's a band I REALLY FUCKING CAN'T STAND]).

Believe it or not (and for the record, I'm talking to everyone again), and it really pains me to admit this, but I have hear that Pennsylvania, my home state, has the highest percentage of people involved with rascist organizations that any other state. Must be a lot of skinheads up here. It makes me fuckin' sick!!!

As for this actual song, I think it is a very good song, and it talks about the darkest side of rascism, something which not too many people seem to want to talk about, but which still exists to this day. It real, it's scary, and it will lead to humaity's destruction if nothing is done. And to those who will give me a load of shit for saying that only whites are rascist, then you can save you're fucking breath, I'm against predjiduce being directed at anyone, although, if anyone has actually deserved predjudice directed at them, I'd say it be us white folks, only because we've done far more to inflame the situation than anyone else has.

And you know else I can't stand, when people justify their hatred in the name of god, and say that they kill and harrass "niggers," and "spics," and "jews," and "chinks" in the name of God. I have the odd distinction of liking Satanic music, but still being a Christian, and it infuriates me when people justify there hatred in God's name. You stupid fuckers (yes I'm swearing at you) need to seriously read you're fucking bibles again, because doesn't it say that you should love your neighboor? That doesn't mean the people in your all-white, all-black, all-Mexican, or all-Chinese neighboorhood, it means everyone who lives in this world, whether they love you back or not, you not suppose to hate them. Although, as I've said before, I myself draw the line at people like Hitler, because you just can't reason with them at all, a man like that could not be allowed to live.

To those who I'll piss off for my endless ranting, I'm sorry, I get very passionate when I speak out against rascism, and I put down everything I'm thinking. I just had to let it all out.

Anyway, both lyrically and musically, this song is excellent. I think that those here who said this song was predjudice against all Southerners, I say you're wrong. I think it just happens to be signing about rascism at it's ugliest, whitch is a good thing, because some artists only skim the surface.

And just to clarify this also, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Neil Young both fucking rule.

Black Label Society – In This River Lyrics 16 years ago
Oh yeah, and to the guy who was bashing people for always saying "R.I.P Dimebag," I just want to say I understand you're frustration, but dude, do you know how many people practically worship Dimebag, how many people will be worshiping him when they eventually hear their first Pantera song, how many people actually still remember seeing him play live? You'll be hard put to shut all of them up, I can tell you that. And why shouldn't we pay our respects to Dimebag? Those of us who are learning metal guitar owe a lot to Dimebag for being a major influence on us, or at least most of us do. I think it's great that so many of us metalheads, hard rockers, and general music fans want to pay their respects to a fallen brother in arms.

Although, I will say, you make an excellent point about Chuck Schuldiner. He was another one of the greatest guitarists ever and he also died a tragic death at young age. The thing that you have to respect about about Chuck is that he was essentially the father of death metal, and also a pioneer of progressive death metal, but he does not get the credit he deserves as a great guitarist. A lot of that probably has to do with the fact that death metal and progresive metal are both badly underrated and under represented genres of music.

Black Label Society – In This River Lyrics 16 years ago
Excellent song. Dimebag Darrell was simply one of the greats. While I'm not a huge Pantera fan, I'm a minor fan, I think that Dime is one of the best guitarists ever. I know that this song was not originally written by Zakk as a tribute to Dime, but the fact that he dedicates to his late brother in arms every time he plays it is what makes it such a great song.

I like this song for the lyrics more than the music. This is highly unusual for me, because I'm a guitarist myself, and normally, as long as the music is good, the lyrics can be as dirty, sucky, satanic, or violent as the want (Examples: Mercyful Fate, Slayer, Destroyer 666, Cannibal Corpse, Mayhem, ect.), and the vocals can be outright shitty, and I'll still like the song. Here though, the lyrics and purpose of the song outdoes the music (which isn't an insult to the music, because it's still awesome). I like the excellent use of metaphor throughout the song and the soulful, melencholy, and simply beautiful delivery.

Although it has been said a million times by almost every metalhead or hard rocker around, I'll say it again...

R.I.P. Dimebag

P.S. I hope Nathan Gale enjoys being ass raped by Adolph Hitler and Ian Stuart in hell.

Metallica – Escape Lyrics 16 years ago
Definetly one of Metallica's best songs, better than For Whom The Bell Tolls and Trapped Under Ice anyhow. I see it as being about non-conformity, and living by your own rules and standards, using a prison to represent America's conformist society, and an ecsaping prisoner as the daring non-conformist who challeges it. This is defenitly the most underrated song on Ride The Lighting, and one of Metallica's most underrated songs in general (such as No Remorse, Disposable Heroes, ...And Justice For All, To Live Is To Die, and The God That Failed.)

Just as bonus info, this the my favorites from Ride The Lighting from #1-#8.

1.Fade To Black (Yeah, I know it's cliche, but it's just such a great song that I can't help but call this song the best on the album.)

2.Creeping Death (Killer fucking riff)

3.The Call Of Ktulu (Excellent guitar and this song has a very interesting origin [Read H.P. Lovecraft's The Call Of Cthulu to know what I mean)

4.Escape (Great song, and as I've said, tragically underrated)

5.Ride The Lighting (Excellent riff and solos)

6.Fight Fire With Fire (A brutal slab of pure thrash metal)

7.For Whom The Bell Tolls (Excellent song, but just a wee bit overrated)

8.Trapped Under Ice (Good, solid song, but nothing particularly special)

Overall rating:***** out of *****

Well Bob Saget 666, I definetly disagree with your opinion of Metallica, which happens to be my favorite band of all time, but I do agree that King Diamond makes some pretty good songs. But if you ask me, Mercyful Fate is 500000000 times better than KD solo work, and the real masters of the latter band were Hank Shermann and Mike Denner and later on Mike Wead, there soloing and rhythym guitar work was truly incredible.

Man, this song is a beast. It's more blasphemous than Black Funeral (is that's even possible?), but only because it plays fo 11:23, whereas Black Funeral only plays for 2:50. The blasphemity of Black Funeral is more concentrated, whereas this song has it sprawling out in an 11 minute, epic, symphony of demonic metal. Obviously about some kind of evil sacrafice.

Awesome, truly awesome. Blasphemous, but really fuckin' cool. Obviously about hell arriving to Earth, the end of God, the demons rising from hell on Halloween night...the usual bullshit satanic crap that Mercyful Fate sings about. Ah well, either way, it's got a badass riff, or should I say, RIFFS (in the plural), and several awesome solos. Mike Denner and Hank Shermann rule!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This here is one of Destruction's best songs, both the original version off of the Eternal Devestation album, and the newer version of the song on the album The Antichrist are fantastic thrash metal masterpieces. Still, you haven't heard diehard metal until you've heard: Metallica (early), Slayer, Megadeth, Mercyful Fate, Deicide, Necrophagist, Emperor, Dimmu Borgir, Dark Funeral, Mayhem, Marduk, Dark Angel, Decapitated, Dying Fetus, Belphagor, Destroyer 666, Demonic Resurrection, Mortal Sin, Cryptopsy, Iron Maiden, Kreator, Testament, Dragonforce, Hammerfall, Suffocation, 1349, Black Sabbath, Behemoth, etc..., this list if completed, would go on fuckin' forever.

Metallica – The Call of Ktulu Lyrics 17 years ago
BEST DAMN PIECE OF INSTRMENTAL MUSIC EVER CREATED BY MANKIND. This is definetly the best Metallica instrumental, and BY FAR my favorite piece of instrumental music. The song is based on the horror story "The Call Of Cthulu" by H.P. Lovecraft, a truly awesome piece of literature by the way, which is about a cosmic beast that is aeons old, and has been buried beneath the Pacific Ocean in the ancient city of R'leyh (I think that's how you spell it), in state described as "dead but dreaming." One day though, the stars will be "properly aligned," and when that time comes, Cthulu will call his cult to come and free him, so that basically, he can destroy the Earth's population, and bring it under his rule once again. He contacts his subjects by coming to them in their dreams. It makes for quite a chilling effect when you read the story and listen to this song at the same time, especially those chilling acoustic riffs at the beginning and end of the song.

Oh and also, I just wanted to say thanks to robsturr for telling us all about real parental torment. By the way dude, have you ever read "A Child Called It," by Dave Pelzer? If you two ever met, you'd have plenty to talk about, seeing as your scenarios are strikingly similar to eachother's. If anything, read the book because it's good book if nothing else.

All I can say about my home life is that I have basically nothing to complain about. I've lived a great life with my parents so far. I got along just fine with my mom and dad when they were married, and even when my mom divorced and remarried, I got along fine with my new stepdad, and we still get along really well. But that just goes to show how lucky I am. A lot of people would probably kill to live the life that I do, even if I don't appreciate that sometimes.

ONE OF THE BEST SONGS EVER WRITTEN. My favorite song off Ride The Lightning is Fade To Black (big suprise huh?), but as far as that album is concerned, this song is right on it's heels. It is defenitly about "The Ten Commandments" movie. I remember seeing that same movie, way before I liked Metallica, and also thinking, like Cliff Burton, that the Death Angel looked like a gas cloud creepinjg along the ground.
