Goldfrapp – Ride A White Horse Lyrics 17 years ago
I don't think this song is about drugs. Or being completely wasted and the like. Rather the yearning to escape, to be free, to literally run off on a white horse. Yeah there is a total play with words there, but I do not think it is meant to be understood in slang terms. I also like how it in a way and in the context of the album can be seen as a reference to Bianca Jaggers infamous entrance to Studio 54.

Simply put it is about feeling completely free and loving that feeling. The feeling of being in a new world of for a second escaping into a fantasy full of dreams, hope and mystical white horses. Ha!

Goldfrapp – Koko Lyrics 17 years ago
Drug trip? Overdose?! Once again I understand somebody possibly seeing it as a song about drugs but really in the context of Goldfrapp for me most of their songs are about emotions. Not about sex or drugs. Their lyrics are like poetry, using metaphors and the like to express an emotion.

This song for me represents giving something another chance. Not looking back, just giving happiness another go. "Breathing new life" into a once sour situation. The "sharp as teeth and stars" symbolizing the yearning and desperation to give in again. And once that happens finally glowing in the joy of this reunion.

For me this song represents giving in to pleasure or to a new beginning. Hope, it will be ok type.

I think people take this song far too literally. Yes Alison has expressed how this song was inspired by lab rats. Now, I don't think she wrote about that but rather compared it and used it as a means of explaining the charge of sexuality and yearning. I don't think her intentions were vulgar enough to simply be about rats or a vibrator but rather that 'inner electricity' that comes from passion, excitement, etc. The "white noise" being the waves of pleasure from such a strong connection to another or love.

For me this song simply represents being unsure about the world, oneself, society etc. Therefore retreating to a safe place "friend's apartment." Also touching on the subject of all the wasted beauty for example through religion. Which admittedly can be quite beautiful, but is unfortunately interpreted in a very hateful and judgmental manner by the masses.

As far as the "indie star faker" I don't think it is directed at anybody specific but rather this whole new trend of manufacturing overproduced 'indie/punk' bands a la Fall Out Boy, Panic! at the Disco etc...

Yeah, I do not think he is talking about drugs but rather natural chemical shifts that cause anger, or depression, etc. The type we have no real direct control over. All the more supported by the urgency in his "come on mood-shift, shift back to good again."

Arcade Fire – Rebellion (Lies) Lyrics 17 years ago
Yeah as some have said before. I don't think the song is about literally rebelling against sleep because that is what our parents told us we need it to live. That's a rather silly observation. For me it uses sleep in a metaphorical way, in that the easy escape [sleep] is never any good.

of Montreal – The Actor's Opprobrium Lyrics 17 years ago
Well he actually is referring to Jean Genet [the correct way to spell it] He mispronounces his name which as somebody said, is pronounced somewhat like "John." I also find it strange that he is relating a snuff film to Jean Genet since the only film he ever did was far from snuff. Though his novels can be a bit violent and erotic.
