S – Anti-Love Song Lyrics

I read somewhere that when Jen Ghetto recorded this album, she holed herself up in her apartment for two weeks and spilled her guts about relationships, crushes, and loves that had gone wrong (don't they always?).
Some of the lines I was unsure on, so I did my best. Leave corrections if you see something that's incorrect! |

I swear the line is "I brought a kazoo, let's have a duel..." In the video, the guy who says it holds up a gold kazoo!

This is by far my favorite track on Personal Journals. His syntax is phenomenal and the cadence with which he says "Maybe then you'll understand the rhythm in my movement/Listen when the news is sent" is really excellent. |

I'm pretty sure that the line "And I never met a Toby that I didn't like" should be "And I never met a Tobey that I didn't like," denoting Erin Tobey and her brother, whose stage name is Matty Pop Chart. Dawson did a split with Matty Pop Chart |

Why was the intro not included in the lyrics?! Silly behind0youreyes.
Five years and many musical phases later, this is still one of my favorite tracks. It's actually the first song I ever heard from Sage, so it has some sentimental value to me. I love the fact that it's so straightforward. I'm getting bored of lyrical metaphors. |

To me, this song is talking about something deeper than having a bad day. This song is coming from someone who's been having a bad day for a few years running. |

No comments?! Blasphemy.
I think this song is pretty straightforward. He's voicing his disapproval of the holier-than-thou, my-body-mod-is-cooler-than-your-body-mod attitudes in the Boston hardcore scene. While that seems ironic, it's really not -- from what I gather, these were some of the most down-to-earth guys in the Boston scene at the time. |

Lyrics correction, probably debatable:
"theyre asking me to export all of your insecurities"
-should be-
"they're asking your ex for all of your insecurities" |

I still think the line is "And I can take away the drips from you," not "trips." This goes along with the drug addiction motif -- you get the "drips" after you snort cocaine, and, while bearable, they're not pleasant.
Just another thought. Anyone second my motion? |

I wish I had heard this song last September when I was going through a nasty breakup. Even though I was the one who ended it, it felt exactly like this. |

I really, really like this song, but does anybody else thing the anti-Bush rhetoric is... well, unnecessary and childish? |

The Shins – The Gloating Sun Lyrics

Whoever transcribed this was on crack. It's the same all over the internet, and there's no way it can be right.
The one I've heard goes something like this (and I'm still a little fuzzy on the lyrics, since all I can find is a live recording -- help me out!):
Snap on your cap
There's a whispering breeze in town
The trees have found a voice and
You're one for fun in the gloating sun of man
And now I'm making it in front of a fireplace on stilts
I'm up for climbing, this time enough for us to be both black and happy
Pay less attention to those that ????
Or whatever word you used to call it
I'll drain the last from the still
Five jars and drinking our fill
It takes a single kiss to start
A laughing heart |
