what fucking brilliance. i only feel inferior when i try to relay the meaning. if one can't find the meainingf to this song, then he/she shouldn't waste his/her time. it' pretty fucking obvious....but all i can say is the satire is at its finest. |

Actually, after listening more...I do think that the song is saying that there's no use in dwelling on horrible nonsense, when you can make the best of the moment...so yeah, I guess it is very optimistic. |

No, I agree with Phrogex, I think Thom is being realistic in explaining that this person has taken the bait and is merely accepting what he has been told - "its such a beautiful day". In fact, the protagonist knows inside that it COULD be better, but can't release himself from what he's been baited to believe. So now our protagonist is stuck in his state of false happiness, instead of truly searching for his inner-belief of true happiness. I think in a broader sense this song is a wake-up call to society to not give in to what we are fed, but to instead continue to pursue true hapiness. Perhaps the writer (Thom) feels that they are not really enjoying the flowers (as he is told he should) so he has the feeling of anxiety for feeling as he shouldn't...worrying too much. |

I have to agree with Gurtjun...I'm not one for religion, but this song is extremely uplifting. Maybe the tone provides for a sense of hope? |

Not only is this great expression in terms of writing, but this song masters the art of extracting a deep feeling that I cannot describe with its musical harmony. |

gwepoi's statement is very interesting in terms of this song. I can't make much out of this song, but I really enjoy the lyrics and the entire feeling of this song. Theres so many statements that, although are framented from a "plot", hit to the heart. I especially like the statement "God will come and wash away"....pessimistic optimism |
