Alvvays – Lollipop (Ode to Jim) Lyrics | 2 years ago |
@[precuredhearts:38766] Jim Reid is the lead singer of The Jesus and Mary Chain, a Scottish noise-pop band from the 80s and 90s that was a huge influence on underground rock. |
Michael Jackson – Childhood Lyrics | 6 years ago |
Over the top sappy, syrupy, adult contemporary dreck. Also, there isn't a single "whoo", "hee hee", "ugh", "ah", "hoo", "ow", or "shamone" in this song. |
Weird Al Yankovic – Inactive Lyrics | 9 years ago |
As with most of Al's parodies, he takes a crappy top 40 pop song and vastly improves upon it/makes it actually listenable. |
Radiohead – Fitter Happier Lyrics | 12 years ago |
This song is nothing more than plain and simple album filler. |
Best Coast – Boyfriend Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Some of the best rock and roll songs ever written have pretty simple, even nonsense, lyrics...Yakety Yak, Wooly Bully, Louie Louie, Papa Oom Mow Mow, Surfin' Bird...absolute genius! |
The Trashmen – Surfin' Bird Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Is that supposed to be the bird sounds? |
The Beach Boys – The Little Old Lady From Pasadena Lyrics | 13 years ago |
It was a Jan and Dean song, but the BBs covered it live in '64. It's on Beach Boys Concert! |
The Beach Boys – Finders Keepers Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Just a little cruel, eh? I love this song... It may not be Pet Sounds or SMiLE, but its still fun as hell. |
The Beach Boys – Forever Lyrics | 15 years ago |
DENNY WILSON! |
The Beach Boys – Good Vibrations Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Are you Mike Love posting under a pseudonym? I actually like to listen to BOTH Cabin Essence and Don't Worry Baby. Actually, the whole reason I like Cabin Essence is because of the weirdness (and also because of Carl Wilson's vocals). OVER AND OVER THE CROW CRIES UNCOVER THE CORNFIELD! |
The Beach Boys – Chapel Of Love Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Are you on crack? "Brian Wilson experimental stuff never worth listening to"? Have you even listened to Pet Sounds, SMiLE, Smiley Smile, Wild Honey, Friends, 20/20, Sunflower, Surf's Up, Carl and the Passions, Holland, Love You, and/or L.A. (Light Album)? All GREAT albums, worth every penny! Saying the Beach Boys output from '67 to '80 is "generally forgettable" is nothing more than an act of ignorance. All you're doing is closing yourself off to some great music. Songs like "Wonderful", "Wind Chimes", "Let The Wind Blow", "Darlin'", "Friends", "Little Bird", "Busy Doin' Nothin'", "Do It Again", "Cotton Fields", "Cool Cool Water", "Forever", "This Whole World", "Long Promised Road", "Feel Flows", "'Til I Die", "Marcella", "Cuddle Up", "All This Is That", "Sail On Sailor", "California Saga", "The Trader", "I'll Bet He's Nice", "Johnny Carson", "Full Sail", "Angel Come Home", "Love Surround Me", etc. all come from this era of the Beach Boys. You're doing yourself and anyone reading this page a great disservice by writing off quite possibly the best period of the Beach Boys' career. Just because 15 Big Ones sucks, it doesn't mean that all of the BBs 70s stuff is bad! |
Bobby Darin – Beyond the Sea Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song was originally written in 1943 as "La Mer" by a Frenchman named Charles Trenet. An American named Jack Lawrence wrote new English lyrics to it and re-named it "Beyond the Sea". |
Charles Trenet – La mer Lyrics | 15 years ago |
English speakers may know this song as "Beyond the Sea". |
The Beach Boys – Cool, Cool Water Lyrics | 15 years ago |
The lines "when I'm thirsty and I reach for a glass, cool water is such a gas" were originally written by Mike Love for a Coca-Cola commercial. "Coca-Cola is such a gas..." The rest of the song dates back to the SMiLE era, though. |
Neko Case – Thanks A Lot Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Fun song! |
The Postmarks – Winter Spring Summer Fall Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song sounds like it came straight out of the 60s! |
The Beach Boys – Anna Lee, The Healer Lyrics | 15 years ago |
He doesn't say "Michigan" or "Nishigesh", he ways "Rishikesh". Rishikesh is a city in India where the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi taught Trancendental Meditation. |
The Beach Boys – Marcella Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Love this song! Apparently its about a hooker/masseuse that Brian Wilson "visited" in the early 70s. |
The Beach Boys – All Dressed Up For School Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song is quite dirty for its time... The melody of the verse was recycled for I've Just Got My Pay, the chorus of I Just Got My Pay was recycled for Marcella. |
The Beach Boys – Girl Don't Tell Me Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Very Beatle-esque, an obvious ripoff/homage to Ticket To Ride, but yet it still has that "California sound" to it. |
Math And Physics Club – You’re So Good To Me Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This was originally a Beach Boys song, from the album Summer Days (and Summer Nights!!!). |
Barenaked Ladies – A Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Did Jim Creeggan's father really teach Ringo how to play guitar? That story sounds kind of fishy. |
Neko Case – Honky Tonk Hiccups Lyrics | 16 years ago |
One of the catchiest songs, ever. |
Neko Case – Honky Tonk Hiccups Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song is so f*cking catchy. I'm a DJ at my college's radio station and I play this song just about every time I'm on the air. Its a great song to dance to. |
Barenaked Ladies – Box Set Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I bet disc 4 will be Buck Naked, or maybe the tape Steve made pre-BNL with his high school freind called Scary Movie Breakfast. The disc 6 dance remix should be interesting. The one I'm that's gonna make me cream in my pants is disc 5. I'm dying to hear the special computer they used as his replacement. :) |
The Beach Boys – California Calling Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Sorry, Swing King, but I'm gonna have to disagree with you on this song. First, Mike Love's nasally vocal flat out ruins the song. Second, the lyrics are rather weak, and in my opinion, quite corny. Third, I think this song was nothing but a cash-in by Mike and Al on the classic style Brian had perfected in the 60s. Either that, or Mike and Al had some sort of a middle age crisis where they made a really bad attempt to recapture their youth. |
Radiohead – High and Dry Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Radiohead's best song. Period. |
Barenaked Ladies – A Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Simpq, how could this song be about someone Kevin knew when it was written by STEVEN PAGE, and relased a year BEFORE Kevin joined the group? |

Barenaked Ladies – Brian Wilson Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Sir Larrikan, I have one correction to make concerning your post about "Smiley Smile." "Good Vibrations" was NOT recorded after Brian Wilson's mother died. Audree Wilson died in 1997, "Good Vibrations" was recorded and released as a single in 1966, and featured on the album "Smily Smile" in 1967, 30 years before Brian Wilson's mother died. And another thing, "Good Vibrations" was originally meant to be included on the legendary "lost" follow-up to "Pet Sounds", "SMiLE". Wilson had his famous mental breakdown during the period when "SMiLE" was being recorded. Brian never finished SMiLE (until 2004). SMiLE was supposed to be Wilson's grand masterpiece, it would've blown "Sgt. Pepper's" out of the water if it were finished back in the 60s. Instead of putting out SMiLE, the Beach Boys made "Smiley Smile", featuring the hit single "Good Vibrations", plus low-key, minimalist, rough sounding remakes of several SMiLE songs. "Smiley Smile", although it is a good album, is nothing compared to SMiLE. The "Creative drought" may refer to the fact that Wilson went through an actual "creative drougt" after SMiLE, "Smiley Smile" being a product of this "drought". |
