Eddie Money – Shakin Lyrics

Might be about "dancing", but it would surprise me if it weren't written with something a bit dirtier in mind... |

Rupert Holmes – Escape (The Piña Colada Song) Lyrics
| 13 years ago
|
Shadow, chill.
No one's holding it up as the musical anthem for the ages, or as moral compass to live your life by. It's not a true story. It's just a corny song that people like to sing when they're drunk.
If you're still angry, take comfort in the fact Rupert Holmes will go to his grave being known for nothing else than being the Pina Colada song guy. |

Ryan Bingham – The Weary Kind Lyrics
|
This song won the oscar a few weeks ago and it's got no comments?!
I can't really relate to the lyrics, which are probably about redemption after living selfishly and foolishly.
The "rolling thunderstorm" that is the drums gives me the shivers a little bit. |

John Mayer – Neon Lyrics

Damn, this might as well have been my own personal theme song in 2002/2003. Madly in love with a selfish, free spirited, irresistible girl who was totally oblivious to everything except indulging herself.
I also associate this with my own youthful foolishness and naivety. I thought that if I was patient, she'd fall apart, I'd be there to pick up the pieces, she'd have an epiphany and realize what she had waiting for her all along and change. Sorry kids, it doesn't happen that way. |

James Taylor – Nothing Like A Hundred Miles Lyrics

One of my favorite songs of all time. Heard this on the Classic Rock radio station one day a few years ago playing deep cuts and it touched me.
Definitely about the resolve to move on from a contentious breakup. |

Blue October – Dirt Room Lyrics

What does the "MR" written on the dollar bill the woman waves at the thief in the video mean? Possibly the initials of the individual the song was written about? |

This one's got a spot on my all time top workout songs.
If you can't grit your teeth, dig deep and crank though the pain while blasting this song, you're hopeless. |

Seriously?! No one's commented on this song????
Well to me it's a cynical commentary about American complacency and apathy |

Ray Charles – You Don't Know Me Lyrics

Ray Charles didn't write this song, but his version is the best.
I've heard it hundreds of times, yet every time it still just kills me. It's a warning to not let the one you love slip away because you were afraid to tell them how you feel. |

Stephen Lynch – Beelz Lyrics

GREAT Song. Like the other folks said, it's all in the delivery. He sings it all effeminate like a cross between The Church Lady and Richard Simmons |

Randy Newman – Burn On Lyrics

In Cleveland they like to think this song is a sentimental ode to the city, and it's a popular local folk tune.
But actually it's mocking the city. Calling early 1970's (This song was released in 1972) Cleveland the city of light and magic is clearly sarcastic. As the city gets cleaner and more modern people forget what a smoggy rusty nasty industrial hellhole Cleveland was for 50 years and the sarcasm gets diluted
It's also a bit of a political statement about how unnatural river fires are. You can't get much stranger than a river catching fire.
Poor Cleveland. Chemically polluted rivers in heavy-industry towns catching fire was not an unusual event in this country, but Cleveland just can't live down the (very minor) Cuyahoga River fire. |

I'll always remember this song as the opening music to the film Major League.
For like 10 years I had absolutely no idea what Randy was mushmouth singing |

Katy Perry – Use Your Love Lyrics
|
Not quite as good as the The Outfield's classic original, but an admirable effort.
It's pretty straightforward
It's about gettin' drunk, cuttin' loose, and having a throughly satisfying one night stand with an old crush behind her boyfriend's back. |

Katy Perry – Ur So Gay Lyrics

This is clearly the anthem of the Metrosexual Male backlash.
Yeah it's a shame that hypersensitive people will squawk about the term "gay" but "you're so effeminant" doesn't have the same zing. |

Lenny Kravitz – If You Can't Say No Lyrics

Sublime song about being cheated on, and the self-denial required be with someone who refuses to commit. Ironic that it's kinda dark, funky and sexy. |

Jay-Z – Public Service Announcement Lyrics
| 16 years ago
|
Dangermouse's "Grey Album" (Unauthorized Beatles/Jay-Z Mashup) version of this song still makes me tingle everytime I hear it. It's just sonic magic. Better than Jay Z's original.
It's probably just one of Jay-Z's shallow self-aggrandizing raps, but I like to think the message is a motivational one, with the message being that taking chances and being true to yourself is a vital to success |

Sammy Johns – Chevy Van Lyrics

This song is just old school fun, cheesy, sexy nostalgia. They don't write songs like this anymore. They try, but songs about skeeting on hoes in Escalades just don't have the same innocent charm. |

Little Richard – Tutti Frutti Lyrics
|
The way Little Richard ORIGINALLY sang it was
A wop bop a loo mop, a good god damn! / Tutti frutti, loose booty / If it don’t fit, don’t force it / You can grease it, make it easy
It was an old raunchy ditty (presumably about anal sex) that they cleaned up out of necessity. The clean lyrics mean nothing- the record company liked the catchy music and the enthusiasm with which Little Richard performed it, so they made it suitable for 1950's radio. |

The Faces – Stay With Me Lyrics

No comments on this song? It must have been miscatagorized under Rod Stewart's solo career, cause this is a CLASSIC song. Not too much deep meaning here. It's a song about being an unrepentant cocky asshole who just wants a one night stand with a girl in the crowd of his show, and for her to not linger the next morning. Too bad Rod Stewart usually gets credit for this song, cause the badass instrumentation is what makes this song a classic. |

The Roots – The Seed (2.0) Lyrics
|
I think you're reading too much into the religious aspects of this song. I think it's a song about musical progress, and about how contemporary musicians are pigeonholed into specific musical genres and the stereotypes that go with them. The Roots seem to make a concious effort to avoid being lumped in with obnoxious rappers, or narcissistic hip-hoppers, and this song addresses that. |

Luniz – I Got 5 On It Lyrics

The basic beat is sampled from Club Nouveau's "Why You Treat Me So Bad" and the horn sound effect is from Kool And The Gang's "Jungle Boogie". Without question, one of the best examples of sampled beats. Even though it's been recycled a dozen times by dozens of artists, people still bounce to it |

Little Richard – Long Tall Sally Lyrics

This song alludes to casual gay sex. Uncle John is a euphemism for Little Richard's penis, and Mary and Sally are sexual rivals. Obviously very risque for the 1950's, hense the subterfuge |

Have you seen the video? I'm pretty sure it'll make some WWII Vets the hardest they've been in years. Oh and I saw an interview of CHristina, asking her why she's into the retro swing and big band stuff lately. Her answer was "Because it comes from a feel good time" Yup. Nothing feels better than crippling economic depression and devastating global war |

I'm surprised this song hasn't had any comments. It's claim to fame was being #2 on the 1985 PMRC (Tipper Gore's Crusade) 'Filthy 15' list. The meaning of this song isn't too hard to decipher, it's all about sex. Sugar Walls is euphamism for her genitals |

Badly promoted, probably, but the video for this song blew my effing mind. Probably still my favorite, and in my opinion, the new iPod ads totally used this video for inspiration. As for the song meanings, I believe this is a song about apathy and peoples inaction |
