Mariah Carey – Heartbreaker Lyrics

Video question: does anyone else remember when the middle section (all animation now) had a few live bits? Like we saw Mariah in between animation shots, mouthing to the rap? What happened to that version? |

Death Cab for Cutie – Talking Bird Lyrics
| 12 years ago
|
i got this album right before my grandma succumbed to Alzheimer's. she'd held on for quite a number of years, losing more memory and vocabulary with each passing one. she'd always been a talker, so instead of the usual chatter, we'd get some babble and bits of real words.
the first time i heard this song, i saw the character as my grandma. she knew few words she'd repeat, she'd get confused, she didn't really know where she was in those last few years in the nursing home, her once lustrious hair was flat and unkempt...she was our talking bird.
but unlike the last line, we wanted her to fly away...not that we didn't love her dearly; we just wanted her to be herself again without any of the physical discomfort she suffered.
i can't really listen to this song too often anymore... |

The All-American Rejects – I Wanna Lyrics

i kinda see it as an amalgamation of most of what others have said--i see it almost in a stalker way; he's been put in jail because he molested/slept with this young girl, but she still cares about him or has stockholm syndrome, and so she feels the same longing he does. |

Holly Conlan – You Are Goodbye Lyrics
|
I loved this song when I first heard it, but it's developed a more personal meaning for me recently. My grandmother just passed away from Alzheimer's, and I can see the lyrics fitting that. Such as "But the night came in to stay/While you made up plans" like the night is Alzheimer's. "Building lifetimes, thinking you'd be here"--thinking she'd be here mentally for these last agonizing ten years. "When there's nothing left to say/I hear that life moves on" --life kept barreling on, even though we couldn't communicate to her once it got bad. And now, there's nothing for us to say, since we knew it was going to happen and it is ultimately better for her not to be in pain in anymore, and we must move on. |

Fall Out Boy – W.A.M.S. Lyrics

|
argh lyrics are all wrong.
Freckle freckle what makes you so special?
the last chunk is:
Mama
If we don't take the medication
We won't sleep for days
We won't sleep for days
Mama
If we pray to the lord
Will he sing on a stage?
Will he sing on a stage?
We sold our hearts
In the back of a long dark car
And I'm a sunshine machine
I want to get stuck
I want to get stuck
And be glowing in your memory |

is it just me, or does the outro sound eerily similar to the smashing pumpkins' "mellon chollie and the infinite sadness"? (the instrumental track before "tonight, tonight"). |

whoopy-doo, everything here is personal opinion. it's not really advertising, either, since fob never paid me. Sorry, "darling."
besides, FOB kicks supertramp (super-who???) any day. |

this song makes me ache inside.
"I know which girl in MY life it makes me think of! :)" is what he wrote four years ago....so why couldn't we make it work? sigh. |

stabwound, you should really hear some more Fall Out Boy. you can't possibly judge Patrick on just "Dance Dance". try "I've Got a Dark Alley and A Bad Idea..." from the same album. Or check out the sweet harmonies on "Golden" from their latest. Or the amazing acapella opening of "Grand Theft Autumn/Where Is Your Boy Tonight" from Take This To Your Grave. Then you'll see how incredible Patrick Stump's voice is. A-fucking-mazing. |

Missy Higgins – Where I Stood Lyrics

*sigh* this song is beautifully heart-wrenching for me. i had him, the guy, and when he moved to alaska we drifted for awhile. we still talked and all, and he begged me to come visit but i couldn't at the time because of my job. by the time i got the chance, he had met a new girl. i want to kill her, but that's besides the point. right now, "she will love [him] more i could/she who dares to stand where i stood." which is why i sob every time i got to the chorus. sigh. i gotta move on, and i know it. because, like missy, i can't get wrapped up in a guy and not have my own life. |

i LOVE this hokey, goofy thing, because it was my jazz class's song my junior year of high school. we did this awesome routine, complete with catsuits, a cape for wings and a cowl for the head. crazy awesome shit. |

LMFAO, makeshift. Patrick Stump's voice is absolutely beautiful--very dynamic and strong. Lots better than the original. In fact, the only reason I ever listen to "Cupid's Chokehold" is to hear Stump's vocals, especially the amazingly tight harmonies in the middle. |

Shakira – Don't Bother Lyrics

i think you're completely right, inkless. shakira has revealed insecurity about small before ("next to her cheap silicone i look minimal" from objection, for example.) (in fact, this song's a lot like "objection.")
also the girl seems to be almost an opposite of shakira--tall, speaks french, can't touch him as well, etc. very interesting. |

what's really poignant for me with this song, is that i remember hearing it in the car with my dad when i was younger and he'd be driving me someplace. i couldn't understand all the words, until he explained them and the meanings behind it.
i just heard this song today...since then my dad's dad has passed away. this song always make me wanna cry but i still like it because i remember hearing it in the car. and every chance i get, i tell my dad i love him. |

"Just relax, it's what Jesus would do

Relient K – In Like A Lion (Always Winter) Lyrics

i loved stumbling on this song this past christmas. to me it's very like "high of 75", not just with the weather metaphors, but with what seems to be matt's seasonal affective disorder.
and i LOVE it, because i get the same way--"when february rolls around i'll roll my eyes." you get sick of the snow and you want it to be either christmas or sunny; enough of this snowy gray crap, you know?
and it's nice to know other christians struggle with the whole s.a.d. thing...it really can feel like He's "not with us" because you get so down. |

Relient K – Faking My Own Suicide Lyrics
|
i love the beat, and i appreciate the idea behind it, but i just can't say i love it. i know too many people who've lost someone to suicide, and have committed it, and even i have thought about it myself. it's not really a good topic to be light about.
so that's bad enough, but to trick this girl???? that. is. horrible. he thinks she'll realize she loves him when he comes back? if that were me, i'd punch his lights out and never speak to him again. you just shouldn't mess with people like that; it's wrong.
if not for that underlying current i would like this song...sigh... |
