AFI – Death of Seasons Lyrics 17 years ago
I think this song is about how one does not understand oneself; all symbols in this song represent the singer himself, including the 'fallen star.' He doesn't understand life and is butting his head against the fact that he is merely human and really can't understand life until it's over.

AFI – This Time Imperfect Lyrics 17 years ago
I think this song is about a relationship that the singer feels needs to end because he's afraid of his emotions, and afraid of the other losing interest because of this.

//I cannot leave here, I cannot stay
//Forever haunted, more than afraid
//Asphyxiate on words I would say
//I'm drawn to a blackened sky
//As I turn blue

The first verse illustrates that he is feeling this way, while implying that the other doesn't quite understand how he feels. It's hard for him to talk about it, because things like that are hard to talk about. This I know from experience. The blackened sky metaphor simply means that his thoughts are drawing him deeper into this conclusion.

//There are no flowers
//No, not this time
//There will be no angels
//Gracing the lines
//Just these stark words I find
//I'd show a smile
//But I'm too weak
//I'd share with you
//Could I only speak
//Just how much this hurts me

The first four lines suggest that his view is pessimistic in the sense that things aren't going to get to that state of understanding that is required for a deep, serious relationship to work. 'These stark words' is, again, him realizing that it's not going to work. The sixth and seventh lines show how he's been trying to hide it, because he loves her, but can't hide it from it. And finally, the last few lines reiterate how hard it is to tell her how he feels.

//I cannot stay here, I cannot leave
//Just like all I loved
//I'm make believe
//Imagined heart, I disappear
//Seems no one will appear here
//And make me real

He is trying to make sense of himself, but can't. He is numb after what he's been through (bad childhood, drugs, depression, etc., whatever gives him the issues that he can't make her understand), and realizes that its going to be hard to find someone that will put forth the effort required to honestly love and care about him.

I'm not in any way saying that my interpretation is definitely right and yours is definitely wrong, but I, like most people, interpret things out of my own experiences. Nor am I trying to say that this is or ever has actually happened to the singer, I just referred to him as such for conversational purposes.
