Okkervil River – Singer Songwriter Lyrics | 9 years ago |
Will leaning a little too hard into the angst on this one |
Shabazz Palaces – Swerve... the Reeping of All That Is Worthwhile (Noir Not Withstanding) Lyrics | 9 years ago |
Forget which track specifically, but the "black is you" etc part is a direct lift from Ishmael's earlier jazz-hop band Digable Planets |
Neutral Milk Hotel – My Dreamgirl Don't Exist Lyrics | 9 years ago |
Guys, only a handful of people listened to the 1991 "album" (i.e. a demo cassette) before NMH gained notoriety years later. Neither artist ripped the other off. It's a SUPER basic 3-4 chord progression that's probably been used in countless songs. It's about a million times more likely that they both strummed the same rudimentary tune while fucking around, as opposed to a punk band listening to the demo cassette of a folk-ish band literally on the opposite side of the country. |

Shabazz Palaces – Are You... Can You... Were You? (Felt) Lyrics | 12 years ago |
just noticed it looks like my second comment is me talking to myself, but it was to a spam account that has I guess since been deleted along with its comments. |
Slowdive – Alison Lyrics | 12 years ago |
""Alison" as written by Elvis Costello" lol. nope. |
Pissed Jeans – False Jesii Part 2 Lyrics | 12 years ago |
jesii is a slangy plural of "jesus." false jesii implies that they are people who pretend to be holy bastions, personifications of goodness and purity but aren't. The lyrics in the song indicate that the protagonist is constantly talking about things that he supposedly could do if he wanted to, but doesn't bother because he's above all of it. The title implies that he's not, and probably not capable of following through on any of his boasts. also the title is probably a continuation of a song called "False Jesii Part 1" by Teenage Depression, but I'm totally unfamiliar with the song/band, so big ol' shrug there. |
Shabazz Palaces – Are You... Can You... Were You? (Felt) Lyrics | 12 years ago |
??? c...ool story bro? |
Shabazz Palaces – Are You... Can You... Were You? (Felt) Lyrics | 12 years ago |
"i can't explain it with verbs" i think might just be "words" but i could be wrong. "the shit by-came here on advantage" is "the ship i came here on vanished." "old school cap" should be "old school cat" "some of us dead--lied to us." is i think "some of us dead - lotta us" but not sure. |
Okkervil River – Black Sheep Boy (Black Sheep Boy Appendix) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
"And I rode into Baltimore and I found a hotel room where I tried to escape you, but the phone line wouldn't go through" this part's so heart-wrenching. trying to escape that threatening darkness inside, by calling up loved ones, but the phone is never picked up. mannnn |
Sleigh Bells – Rill Rill Lyrics | 13 years ago |
ACCORDING TO THE OFFICIAL SLEIGH BELLS TWITTER, ""Rill Rill" chorus lyric is usually misinterpreted as "click click saddle up" when in fact it's "click click settle up"..." "...which is a gun being cocked in the face and a debt to be paid." |
Warpaint – Shadows Lyrics | 13 years ago |
that i did. i misspoke though. it's not a book. the lyrics are printed on the back of the record sleeves. |
Warpaint – Shadows Lyrics | 13 years ago |
minor corrections from the lyric book: "with my hand in my pocket" "knots in my long brown hair" "there's no lies" |
Adult. – In My Nerves Lyrics | 13 years ago |
"Doesn't really matter when you're growing up this way." i believe it's "doesn't really matter when you're going every which way" |
Crystal Castles – Intimate Lyrics | 14 years ago |
definitly my favorite cc song, and it hasnt even been released yet. SIGH. |
Crystal Castles – Eerie Lyrics | 14 years ago |
...so why is it up here |
Warpaint – Elephants Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think one part might be: "So i know that you're not that you're not here Sort of lost without you I hope that you find all there is that you want, is inside you now." |
The Middle East – Blood Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"Some people are just born with tragedy in their blood" -Donnie Darko Not my favorite movie or anything, but that quote is basically how i feel about this song. |
Islands – Vertigo (If It's a Crime) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
guess i wasn't literal enough. according to an interview i read, it's meant to be a 3 part epic about a man facing death by gallows. |
Islands – J'Aime Vous Voir Quitter Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"It was written about a certain someone. It was really a reaction to being stabbed in the guts. That was kind of a bitter affair, at the last show we did with Jaime, Nick played that during the soundcheck and then walked off the stage." http://drownedinsound.com/in_depth/3207280 |
Kid Dakota – Ten Thousand Lakes Lyrics | 15 years ago |
ahahaha this made my day. if i had a hat in this virtual world, i would tip it and say "to you, dear sir." |
Islands – J'Aime Vous Voir Quitter Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Even though it's not my opinion, Jamie's stage name with The Unicorns was J'aime Tambeur so i think it's quite within the realm of reason to think that this song concerns him. |
Islands – The Arm Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think the song is about trying futilely to save someone from themselves. "The arm" plays a pretty big role in the record i think, because it simoultaneously reaches out to hold but also holds back. The idea behind the arm here, i think is literally somebody reaching out to save someone, but illustrated more figuratively with the idea of the jaws of life. (my favorite song on this album, next to We Swim) |
The Raveonettes – Aly, Walk With Me Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I feel like it's referring to Allie of Catcher in the Rye, and that part of the book where the main character Holden is all walking down the street talking in his head to his dead brother Allie. |
Crystal Castles – Straight Outta Compton (N.W.A. cover) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Assuming it's the live version that im thinking of, im also positive she changes it up to the end to either "I'm still tired when i hear you cry" or "I still die when i hear you cry." |
My Brightest Diamond – Inside A Boy Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"We are clouds, we are whispers like fawns and shape-shifters Our edges can never be found out. No, our edges keep moving further out" Man. This part...... man. |
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Yeah! New York Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I'm not ENTIRELY sure. But i believe the title of this song is a reference to the Brian Eno produced compilation album "No New York." Which was sort of the foundational record for the No Wave scene of the 70s which has a sound similar to the YYYs. |
Islands – Vertigo (If It's a Crime) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Maybe i'm looking into it too literally, but i think it's a song about suicide. Also the chorus with the title line, sounds fairly similar to Renaud on Return to the Sea, which makes me wonder if the two songs are meant to be related. |
Land of Talk – Street Wheels Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Here's what i get: Are we really in love at all with something real? Are we stuck inside it all while something lives? Now we didn't doubt a sight its a drummers lie and we never meant to call it off we just lost the force. And now if they don't fade down to feature the darkness and wind, it wails, and it won't. Not likely for death to come between us. Not random for something real. Are we really in love at all? (?) And we never meant to call it off We just lost the force. And now if they don't fade down to feature the darkness and wind it wails, and it won't. Not likely for death to come betweens us not random for something real. And now if they don't fade down to feature the darkness and wind it wails, and it wont. Not likely for death to come between us. Too random for something real. |
The Unicorns – The Clap Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i think the song is just a stab at the neediness of crowds at a show. |
Crystal Castles – Crimewave Lyrics | 16 years ago |
YOU ARE ALL EXTREMELY LATE TO THE PARTY. See page 1 of the comments. These are the lyrics to the original song by Health. (The CC version is a mishmash of the vocals) Eyes lit On sharp threats From darks lips But lights press The soft skin To rough hands. |
Crystal Castles – Magic Spells Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I'm not certain because i haven't watched it in ages, but i believe they actually kept the quote intact. Imdb or wikiquote or whatever probably just got it wrong (both being user-submitted after all). And to clarify it's from V: The Final Battle, which was like a sci-fi miniseries that was so bad it was good. |
Crystal Castles – Black Panther Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"if this is love then im fucking proud of it" i could be totally wrong, but what i hear is "sticks and stones and broken bones" |
Crystal Castles – Why Do You Cry Everytime I Fuck You? Lyrics | 16 years ago |
whaaat. whereabouts can one find this song? |
Crystal Castles – Xxzxcuzx Me Lyrics | 16 years ago |
We can insist on and (...) bugs and insects useless leave me for dead how can you love? program the head We get so demonstrated nuts and bolts for granted lie like a dog now it's just wires full of promise Robot body to love I'm programmed to rust AIDS robot is clad in iron bolts Robot grunts have bled each other they wanna play with my placenta All we have is dirty weather someone push the button I know we're just disease A bloody cyst What will you live, What will you die for? Protect the cure in me baby I know we'll celebrate the fucking rain just because we don't feel flesh doesn't mean we don't fear death |
Wintersleep – Faithful guide Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Actual lyrics (they were on their website prior the new album coming out): "I dreamt you were a monster With fiery, fiery eyes I dreamt the sun was burning But you just kept on staring I was afraid of what would happen If God would take you with him A broken, lonely captain Sailing blind Into the distance I wanted to go with you To be right by your side So I could steer the vessel So you could rest your eyes I wanted to go with you To be your faithful guide But I was too afraid of The monsters at the time" |
Belle & Sebastian – Piazza, New York Catcher Lyrics | 16 years ago |
the first few times i heard song, i thought it was about a relationship between a man and a transvestite. I came here to see if anyone else had reached the same conclusion. I am glad to see my interpretation is not too far off from the common consensus. |
Vampire Weekend – Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"Feels so unnatural, Peter Gabriel" I think this song is about having an orgy with peter gabriel, and coming to terms with being the catcher to his pitcher. |
Throw Me The Statue – About To Walk Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"After all with the evening ghosts, they were only there to break my toast" are definitly the lyrics. |
Foals – Balloons Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i... i was fully hearing "we fry balloons on a steel collar." and then "why's it feel cold?" instead of "what's the fuel called?" your interpretation makes a lot more sense |
Crystal Castles – Alice Practice Lyrics | 16 years ago |
the first line is totally "scars won't heal" but otherwise this sounds pretty accurate to me. |
Spank Rock – Bump Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"Come straight from the hood gonna keep my music Colour/rock/rap/punk confusion it’s too confusin’" is "Come straight from the hood. Critique my music? Call it pop/rap/rock fusion? It's too confusing." "bitch’s show" is "picture show" "(If you can want my time we can unwind) The real old rock and roll Things get better yet And like it said let me know when you’re ready to go I just be here with my feet up free rollin’ this meat up Me and my Marci aint changin'" is "If you ever want my time we can wind to the grand old rock and roll Things get better yet, two step to the dipset. lemme know when youre ready to go. I just be here with my feet up, rolling this weed up. Me and my martini ain't changing, we just staying the same age. And while..." |
The Go! Team – Huddle Formation Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i'll agree with "the revolution has come, time to pick up the gun" But there's NO WAY they're saying "off the pig." Are you guys even listening to the same song? Whatever they say is clearly two syllables, not three. |
Sweeney Todd – Not While I'm Around Lyrics | 16 years ago |
That part's only in the film version |
Cake – Where Would I Be? Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Maybe about coming to terms with God. |
Cake – Cool Blue Reason Lyrics | 16 years ago |
People are taking this song way too literally. The people near the beginning were right. I think it's about reality seeping into your life and being equivelant to just plain shitty bad luck. |
Interpol – Cubed Lyrics | 16 years ago |
As far as i know, it's strictly a live song so far. It shouldn't be all that hard to find an mp3 online somewhere, for those that are curious. Also, i always thought he said "stay travelling with that black cat" not "cab." But i'm pretty sure you were spot on, as cab makes more sense in context. (I kinda like the cat line better anyway though, so i'm just going to keep on hearing that instead) |
Brian Eno – Third Uncle Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think after "cook the leather" he says "put it on" and then "does it fit me or you" |
Gorillaz – Kids With Guns Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It's not "is she real" It's "push it real" given that it's a direct sampling of Salt N' Pepa's hit song "Push it." For those that think it doesn't sound right it's probably because the original full line is "push it real good." Also rather than "think of something" it sounds to me like "they've got something" |
Röyksopp – What Else Is There? Lyrics | 17 years ago |
You're all retarded. |
