I love this song. To me, it's beautifully written song that deals with the discomfort of exsitential anxiety. The song particulary touches me because I am going through my own anxiety around the meaning of life, the uncertainty of my furture, and fear of death. I love that line, "keep your head above water but don't forget to breathe." It's comforting because he's telling us even though you may not have the answers keep doing what you are doing in the present ( "your whole life is here") and relax. |

(I think) The beginning of the song is his anger and resentment and hurt in his everyday waking life. Drunken one night stands to cover up the pain. Then "So you decided on art school.." with the key change is him lost in his own thoughts, sadness and regret and longing as he lays in bed not being able to sleep...thinking about this girl. |
