Stevie Ray Vaughan – Life By The Drop Lyrics 5 years ago
@[MrNatural:27615] I like your breakdown but again the song is very metaphorical.
I also see as a song about strained relationships, rekindling old friendships and trying to appreciate life.
Think about the song with sobriety being "his old friend."
Then lines like "On our way up the road we started over again" take on new meaning and living Life by the Drop becomes about slowing down and appreciating life (every drop of rain.)

There are no reasons to believe
I buried my faith on the block

I always sing I buried my faith in another blonde...
maybe that's just me.

Spoon – The Book I Write Lyrics 10 years ago
So many people hear so many different things when they hear this song.

To me it sounds both forlorn and brimming with passion.

Love, love, love: All that we are, all we do Is here forever.

Love is fleeting.

Both people can look back on a relationship fondly even if they don't agree on the problem that drove them apart.

Just want to applaud TP for a song that truly makes you think about what can go wrong with a relationship and why things don't work out despite love.

I think the first paragraph is so telling. It's a warning about being haunted by love. Everyone learns this lesson and is destined to crash.

The Gaslight Anthem – Meet Me by the River's Edge Lyrics 13 years ago
I don't mind the lyric being 'Our fathers' factories marked our CARDS' because to me it's a reference to the phrase playing the hand you're dealt. For so much of your youth, your identity is tied to your family environment. Breaking free is something I think everyone can relate to.

And I love all the Bruce references too.

Crooked Fingers – You Must Build A Fire Lyrics 15 years ago
This song paralyzes me.

It's full of contradictions but so is life. My wife died at a young age and this song is how I feel most times: floating aimlessly, holding out hope that if I keep searching I'll find her again, thankful for her love, able now to forgive anything that happened in the past.

She'll never leave you behind because in your heart she's always there.

Just tell me where you are and I'll come find you.
