Bob Dylan – I'm Not There Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think he is singing to someone who loves him, but he doesn't love her as much as she loves him. He cares for her a lot and wishes he could be there to love her, but he simply can't because he doesn't feel the same, and knows that it's best for both of them to split up. |
Third Eye Blind – Slow Motion (1995 Demo) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
What was the "different cultural meaning"? |
Third Eye Blind – Slow Motion Lyrics | 16 years ago |
To me, this song is about how Hollywood, the news, the media, and everything glamorizes inner city life. From the outside, we see the news reports for murder, rape and violence and we feel sorry. We see the anti-drug films set in inner cities and we call it inspirational. We're so happy we don't live there. From the inside, though, it's an expectation that they live up to, they keep entertaining us via Hollywood. |
Nightwish – Eva Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Sorry I didn't change the lyrics sooner. |
Kiss Kiss – Shits in Suits Lyrics | 16 years ago |
The last verse really seems to be about pharmaceutical companies, but how do the first two relate? |
Kiss Kiss – Sixth Sense Lyrics | 16 years ago |
It seems to me that someone doesn't know what to do with his relationship, he keeps on learning new things and there's a lot he doesn't know, so he thinks he should trust his intuition. |
AFI – Summer Shudder Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Inpeace, your interpretation and story is my favorite, I think it totally fits. |
The Less – Loud Machines Lyrics | 16 years ago |
The band's alright, in my opinion it's a little too much like all other music. But this song... It's my favorite, I absolutely love it!!! It's so pretty, I love the silent pauses and the piano, and what sounds like a string instrument near the end, so pretty! And the lyrics are amazing. They are obviously about needing someone to understand this confusing life. The bridge is my favorite: "I'm outta my head, But you say its fine. I'm outta this world, I left it behind. I don't have to run. I don't have to cry. I'm hangin on your every word and I hear you calling" |
Weird Al Yankovic – Angry White Boy Polka Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think he also mocks "emo" people. |
Daughtry – All These Lives Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I agree that the primary meaning of this song is about kidnapping. I really wander whether it's based on an experience ... I relate to it in a different way, however. A friend of mine committed suicide recently, and I think that's what this song is about. I think, whichever way you look at it, it could be a conversation with God. While we believe that God is such a great person, there are "all these lives" that he is taking. The God that this song talks to is a Duaism (sp?) God: one who watches over what's happening (they "know he's breathing"), but does nothing about it. The song seems to advocate atheism by saying that he'll "never let you take my world from me" and that "you ain't coming in". There seems to be a belief that the truth about God will eventually be discovered: "they are gonna find you". Interesting, huh? |
Fall Out Boy – Hum Hallelujah Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I saw their concert last night, and Pete said something about how this song is for the children in the audience. |
Groove Coverage – Little June Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Simply, I think this is about a young, fun girl who got murdered "by the hands of a man that she barely knew" However, as any song, I believe the meaning can be stretched. mopontop makes a good point about the "man" being "god/jesus or heaven and all that fake stuff". With that in mind, this song can be about death in general. Personally, it reminds me of a recent suicide of one of my friends. "she closed her eyes as she left for the skies" |
AFI – The Missing Frame Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think that this song is looking back at a disaster of some sort, such as a suicide of a friend, many years later ("one at a time/I watched them all forget") I do think that "little death" is a reference to an orgasm in here, perhaps saying that sex is the only thing that keeps things off him mind, and there's really no love. |
Mika – My Interpretation Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Very real song, definitely about staying strong in a break up and the events leading up to it. "You talk about life, you talk about death And everything in between Like it's nothing and the words are easy" This quote is kinda random compared to the rest of the song, and I think that the purpose of it is to illustrate the character this song develops. "Make it my fault, win the game Point the finger, place the blame And toss me up and down Doesn't matter now" "If half of what you said is true And half of what I didn't do could be different Would it make you better?" I love how facetious and mocking these two segments are, almost makes me laugh. "The first two weeks turn into ten I hold my breath and wonder when it'll happen It doesn't really matter" I'm not sure what this line means, help? "This is my interpretation And it don't, don't make sense" At first this line confused me "And it don't have to make no sense to you at all Cause this is my interpretation" But this line explained it. Once again, the line is sarcastic, and when he says that "it don't make sense" he really means that it makes sense to him, and he doesn't care whether it makes sense to the character he is talking to. Almost like, "Whatever, it doesn't make sense, idc" lol |
Mika – Love Today Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song always makes me happy ^^ I think, in a way, this song has a way of saying promiscuity is good. Looking at what he said in the interview, he seems to realize there's little difference between love and sex. What this song means is that sex is fun so we should go have sex and feel love lol |
Mika – Billy Brown Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I agree with mikalover, I don't know what that syllable is either, it's weird. I agree with Avatar-rock (the first comment) on the meaning. Good song. |
Mika – Erase Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I can't believe there is only one comment! I love the emotion and the power in this song, it's one of their best. I love the death imagery in this song: "Looking for love we left for dead/In a grave without a stone, " ; "But it's a ghost town in your mind" ; "You might as well put your finger on the trigger". This song is definitely about a break up, though some of the parts in it seem confusing. When he talks about being tangled in the bed, he refers back to the relationship before it ended, it seemed random and didn't make sense to me. Correction: "You're trying to replace a feeling without a name" Great song! |
Mika – Lollipop Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Great song. I agree with schock that the lollipop is a metaphor for innocence. I don't, however, think it's literally about taking things slow, but more figuratively about being careful about giving away your heart. I think the irony of sad lyrics with happy music is purposeful. When I felt like my love life was plotting against me, I listened to this song and I felt happy. This song does not create pity for failure in love, but instead makes it easy to swallow. For that reason, the sexual conotations of this song could be the opposite of taking this slow. In fact, I think if you analyze this song from a sexual perspective, it could mean that you shouldn't be scared about getting your heart broken by the person you have sex with, but instead should be prepared for it and don't treasure love or physical virginity to much. However, I don't think the purpose of this song is sexual, and I disagree with the first few people who commented on this song. |
Mika – Any Other World Lyrics | 17 years ago |
AMAZING song, my favorite by Mika. Makes me cry every time. I also think it's a global song, and I love the quote from the interview from Del Marquis, thank you. I think this song has to do with how sad this world is. There's a moment we all realize this, when everything you knew is torn apart and you feel only pain. It could have to do with breaking up, but I don't think that's an essential part of this song, just one of the many possibilities. The "bitter, bitter man" does not refer to a specific person, but to so many people. I love the compassion in that line, instead of being mean to that man, it is quiet sympathetic. What confuses me is the purpose of the "(any) other world" reference. What truly does it mean? Lyric corrections: "But lonely is so lonely alone" What does the woman say at the end? Amazing song |
Fall Out Boy – You're Crashing, but You're No Wave Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this song is agains capital punishment.: The DA is dressed to the nines In the mirror, he practices all his lines [DA=district attorny] To his closing argument, 12 hearts beat in favour [The jury agrees with him] I'm guessing he read the morning paper The headline reads "The Man Hangs" But the jury doesn't [He's found guilty, and hung. The jury is not hung, and they quickly agree on a verdict] And everyone's looking for relief United States versus disbelief [The only reason we capitally punish people is because we need relief for our sorrow and revenge] Mothers cast tears on both sides of the aisle [We only create more loss by killing a murderer. One mother would be crying anyways, but now we took away another mother's child] Clear your throat and face the world The verdict falls like bachelors for bad luck girls Only breathing with the aid of denial [The jury avoids guilt by denying it] Case open, and case shut But you could pay to close it like a casket [Like a casket=death. A good lawyer could easily kill someone] Baby boy can't lift his headache head Isn't it tragic? [There's nothing he can do. Literaly, he is dying] He glances at his peers sitting 7 to 12 Stacked on 1 to 6 The gallery is hushed [Waiting for the verdict] Boys in three pieces dream of grandstanding and bravado The city sleeps in a cell [The focus of the world is on this trial] Notwithstanding what we all know They hang on a rope or bated breath Whichever you prefer [Dead] And everyone's looking for relief A bidding war for an old flame's grief [Looking for revenge for sorrow] The cause, the kid, The curse, the charm [This talks about the criminal] There's not a word that can make you comprehend [It's insane] Too well dressed for the witness stand [It's not really a happy place to be] The press prays for whichever headline's worse [The press doesn't care about lives, only money] ... Fresh pressed suit and tie Unimpressed birds sing and die [I think the birds refer to the media] Can talk my way out of anything The foreman reads the verdict: "In the above entitled actions, we find the defendent, Guilty, guilty, guilty" ... And yeah ... |
The All-American Rejects – Top Of The World Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Especially the title lyric, "when the top of the world falls on you" it makes me think of the blade of the gillotene crashing down. |
The All-American Rejects – Top Of The World Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Am I the only one that's nerdy enough to think about the French Revolution when hearing this song? |
Nickelback – Photograph Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I don't like this song, it's pretty ugly in my opinion, but there's one good thing about it. THE LYRICS They're so deep, so real, so true. They make me cry every time. Every time. Leaves me drowning in tears. |
Panic! at the Disco – Lying Is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think that this song highlights the cliche that girls fall for bad boys. It is obvious that the speaker cares about the girl he is singing about. The girl, though, seems to be falling for a boy who is simply ruled by emotion. Once, she had what she always wanted: the speaker, but now she chose some bad boy who would give her attention different then the attention the speaker is giving her, attention that seems beyond her reach. Thus, the good-boy speaker loses the girl he loves to a bad-boy. But in the end, it is the girl that will suffer. |
