Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Papa Won't Leave You, Henry Lyrics 17 years ago
This definately has ties to his book, "And The Ass Saw The Angel". Really good. Full of bleakly disturbing images, yet with subtle and sometimes overwhelming beauty.
The "mad old buzzard, the reverend" must be Abie Poe, from the book. And "The night I spent amongst her bones" sounds lke when he finds the remains of Cosey Mo, but this seems less logical. Also, in the book children born during the three years of rain are called "Rain Children". I don't imagine this is directly related to the novel, but they definately share inspiration.

Gorillaz – Dirty Harry Lyrics 17 years ago
So...Sick....of political musicians......Can we not find another subject to write about? Not to say I don't love the Gorillaz, but I'm pretty sick of condescending bands that get so much praise and patronization for singing about the same subject as everyone else. You realize this puts them near the same category as System of a Down? SYSTEM OF A DOWN!!! They're utter shit. But I love the Gorillaz none the less.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Darker with the Day Lyrics 17 years ago
Originally, this song symbolized for me many things. Not only his intolerance of the modern world, but the questionable methods of a former faith. ("gilled Jesus on a fisherman's hook") It's hard for me to put my finger on who he was seeing in the garden. Perhaps a woman, or perhaps the light he was looking for. The song is a beautiful ending to a mournful album. I belive that it clearly explains how he hasn't found his answer yet. ("As I search, in and out, above, about, below"). One of my favorite tracks on "No More Shall We Part" Along with "The Sorrowful Wife".

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – The Curse of Millhaven Lyrics 17 years ago
Without the lines about Bill Blake's little boy and the children ice skating, I'd find this song a bit funnier. That's the thing about Nick Cave, he doesn't censor himself and by the time your cringing in disgust at a greusome lyric, he's already moved on and wants you to keep up. Brilliance!

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Hallelujah Lyrics 17 years ago
Well, consider the fact that Nick Cave, himself, is a Christian. It's hard to believe, but he's admitted it himself.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – God Is in the House Lyrics 17 years ago
I'm sure you'd like to think of it as a critical view of small-town Christianity, which is a subject that's been the victim of satire for quite some time by many who barely understand it, but you must take into account that Nick Cave is a Christian himself, although he doesn't believe in an interventionist's God.

^^ That should help if you need proof.

Anyway, Christianity has gotten a bad stereotype, but we're not all the homophobic rednecks you'd prefer to think we are.
