Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Where the Wild Roses Grow (feat. Kylie Minogue) Lyrics | 17 years ago |

yep, my thoughts exactly. Weird how the song sounds so happy, though. |

Vienna Teng – My Medea Lyrics | 17 years ago |
or perhaps the song is from Jason's point of view? That almost makes sense. |
Vienna Teng – My Medea Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Interesting, the beauty of the song belies the incredibly complex and painful message. the citation of Medea is to illustrate and make tragic the idea of abortion. "My" Medea makes it personal, we're seeing the singer's thought on abortion through the lens of greek tragedy, through Medea's choice to kill her children. The line that makes it clear to me is And this child I would destroy If you tried to set her free Set free= birth/allow to live? Anyway, this song is amazing even if one doesn't listen to the lyrics. It's tempting to do so, I know I've done it enough. I really appreciate this song and 'Passage'- intense, but quiet and allows thinking about the subjects at hand, rather than a build to a climax and a twist, you know? (well, at least I think it is about abortion. Y'all are free, of course, to disagree.) |
The Decemberists – The Tain (Parts I, II, III, IV, V) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
y'all know it's pronounced TAWN bo COOLEY, right? Gaelic is so unpronounceable, but so cool. i'm so listening to this when I have to read it for class! |
The Shins – Baby Boomerang Lyrics | 17 years ago |
...and banging the whole gang certainly seems like something a prostitute might be called upon to do. |
PJ Harvey – Down By The Water Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I thought it was about abortion too, and PJ is closemouthed, so I'm not sure. This song distresses me because I can't figure it out. Also, it's creepy. But I love it anyway. |
The Dresden Dolls – Girl Anachronism Lyrics | 17 years ago |
that makes absolutely no sense. anyway, this song is wonderful live, it's awesome to see amanda do all the 'voices' together. Does anyone else have bother versions of this song? I prefer the looped one. |
The Decemberists – Leslie Ann Levine Lyrics | 17 years ago |
according to the oed, a "mésalliance" is anglicized french for 'a union between two people that is thought to be unsuitable or inappropriate; esp. a marriage with a person of a lower social position.' I think that works, and it seems to be current given that the last citation was 1972. *shrug* Dem Decemberists and dere obscure words! |
