Tool – Parabola Lyrics 11 years ago
This whole album deals with spiritual enlightenment(with the climax at the end of Reflection). Parabola specifically deals with the illusory nature of the self.

"We barely remember who or what came before" -> Our memories are very limited, but they create a story of our "selves" despite that. It's just an illusion, the song tells us to focus on the now(a common theme in spirituality) and that our bodies are just a temporary form of being.

The other songs on Lateralus all focus on different aspects of the main spiritual truth that Reflection tries to convey.

The Grudge/Schism are about our relationships with other beings and how futile it is to separate ourselves from them. We are, after all, all one mind.

The Patient/Ticks and Leeches are about dealing with the struggles that come along the path to spritual enlightenment. The incredible amount of patience it requires, the negative influences from the outside world, etc.

Lateralus is about the exploration of ourselves and just the general size and scope of what there is to discover.

Many people call Tool hard to understand, but they actually convey very simple messages in their music. That's part of what makes them so great, their universal applicability to almost all situations.

Even looking at their discogtaphy as a whole sort of shows a cool trend. Opiate was very "me and them", the ideas are very typical of an individual angry at society and at himself.

Undertow and Aenima show a more inward approach, especially on Aenima. Third Eye is sort of like the precursor to Lateralus, the final understanding of truth.

Lateralus is sort of climax of their work.

10,000 Days is sort of like Opiate, in that it includes lots of societal criticism, but from a new perspective. It criticizes it in terms of "we", rather than "they."

Do I really think Tool's discography is like one big concept album? No, but the trend is definitely there.

Pearl Jam – Deep Lyrics 14 years ago
It's about a guy who is suicidal starts to take addictive drugs(heroin probably) and steers away from that path. But even though he's not going to kill himself, his life is still fucked up and he starts getting into worse and worse and stuff such as murder(which he has no problem justifying at this point, claiming his superiority over his victims, and eventually rape.

The third verse is great work by the band because it puts you in the perspective of one of his victims. It makes you realize the true cycle of tragedy being portrayed throughout the song.

Tool – Lateralus Lyrics 15 years ago
This is song is quite obviously about the evolution of mankind, and how we keep pushing it further and further, spiraling out into the unknown.

Just look at the first few lines.

"Black then White are all I see" - Talking about how Africans appeared first, and then after moving up north they lost melanin and then became white.

"Red and Yellow then came to be" - How whites and blacks bred with eachother and created two "inbetween" races.

Tool – Flood Lyrics 15 years ago
I think its about someone dying, and transcending into the 'next realm' or w/e you wanna call it.

"Here comes the water" is basically him accepting that his death his coming. Everything in his life is crumbling away, but he tries to hold onto it as much as possible.

After this he thinks that he has reached heaven, but shortly after he realizes that he is wrong, and that he must pay for the sins of his past, and the 'sun' begins to go away as darkness(the water) surrounds. He feels it cleansing him as he is reincarnated into another being.

Rise Against – Ready To Fall Lyrics 17 years ago
Well, the first time I heard it, I thought it was about a man commiting suicide because h was having love troubles. But I can see how it relates to the video, mother nature could to be the girl in the song, and he could be saying he's "Ready to Fall ti save the animals." Its lie he's threating to commit suicide if the governmet doesn't do anything abou it.

Also, the enitre song is awesome, the chorus being the best part.
