St. Vincent – Actor Out of Work Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think it's about seeing actors on the screen. Although you know they're just acting, you can't help but believe them. Or if you don't believe in them, sometimes you find it kinda cute that they're trying so hard to act. And how that kind of situation can often arise in relationships. |
St. Vincent – Now, Now Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I laughed the first time I heard "I'm not Annie Annie Annie Anything". She never fails to surprise. |
Laura Marling – Night Terror Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"and whispers: if they want you, they're gonna have to fight me" it's touching to be tender and protective to the partner. at the same time it's sad, because there's nothing much you can do except for being there for them as they suffer. i love the way she sings "you'll fight me!" p.s. i don't know about the last line being "don't fight me", but if it is, it's probably said to the partner, whose incapability of accepting help is interpreted as a refusal to receive help. so like "don't fight me, let me help you". which kinda gives a new spin to it: "night terror" might be used as a metaphor for problems in life, in that even if you want to, it's often impossible to solve them for the people you love. |
Laura Marling – Cross Your Fingers Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"Oh I'll jump into your grave and die and on my word you'll give up your whole life for me and you'll be reborn, bigger and stronger and less alive" i'm still wondering how somebody less than 18 years old could've written these lines. anyway to me it's about how bad things in life make us stronger, but less idealistic and more disillusioned (thus less alive). to me it's about being stressed out and breaking down, and being unable to do anything except for crossing fingers hoping things will turn out fine. |
Laura Marling – You're No God Lyrics | 15 years ago |
to me it's about how people pretend to be very strong and independent but nevertheless feel lonely and miserable inside until they eventually find their companion. |
Laura Marling – The Captain and the Hourglass Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i'm mostly with rebeccalily way up there. the song is about wasting life in escapism i think "If Heaven is as Heaven does, then this is Hell for sure..." is saying that even if you believe in a perfect afterlife, it doesn't change the fact that this life is still full of terrible things, and that we might as well face it and live life as it is. |
Laura Marling – Ghosts Lyrics | 15 years ago |
it's just a way of turning down anybody, really. rather cruel but at the same time, how true and how sweet. |
Laura Marling – Ghosts Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i agree that the chorus is probably about the rejection of a marriage proposal. it could refer to what this new girl says to him, or his old girlfriends said to him. it could also be what he is saying to the girl. although girls don't usually fall to their knees for proposals, the words seem proper from the mouth of a guy like him. perhaps the girl is begging him not to leave her? a much crueler interpretation. the title "ghosts" refer to the guy being haunted by past relationships, and perhaps also that love is incorporeal and no one cannot hold on to it. |
Hugh Laurie – America Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This is a song full of very strong emotions and very deep meanings. America is a promise land, the land of freedom. However, behind all its glory there are millions of untold, heart-breaking tales. The "oh oh" is a cry from the bottom of everybody's heart, a cry that's filled with despair and sadness. "The states" is a protest statement which states Dylan's protest against the oppression from the authority. The first two lines have six "America"s in it, which is the Devil's number. Dylan is such a genius. |
Regina Spektor – Bobbing for Apples Lyrics | 15 years ago |
LOL I'd totally fuck to her songs if my girlfriend would only let me XD |
Regina Spektor – Baby Jesus Lyrics | 15 years ago |
it doesn't feel like a song about christian antisemitism... it would be pretty shallow i like how she gives "a little bread" to baby jesus because apparently he can keep breaking it into the pieces and eating it forever XD |
Regina Spektor – Folding Chair Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Yay the dolphin song! She's too cute. XD I mean, she's too-oo-oo, oo-oo-oo, oo-oo-oo-oooo cute. |
Regina Spektor – Carbon Monoxide Lyrics | 15 years ago |
this one fits every line perfectly: a little girl falls in love with her dad and decides to gas-poison him and herself. except it's really... say twisted? |
Regina Spektor – Uh-Merica Lyrics | 15 years ago |
the song feels very much like a sarcastic piece about cathartic violence. the connection between regina's allusions and her lyrics can be quite loose (see oedipus, for example) so i wouldn't read e. roosevelt as having any substantial connection with the first lady. |
Be Your Own Pet – Food Fight! Lyrics | 15 years ago |
gotta love the blooper. |
Be Your Own Pet – What's Your Damage Lyrics | 16 years ago |
haha to have a girl yell out how i feel in the exact words |
Mindless Self Indulgence – 1989 Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"My body's not even cold My act is just getting old" for some reason makes me think they're referring to Kurt Cobain of Nirvana, who died in 1994 (1989 + next big thing for 5 years running) If that's true, they're making fun of "punk musicians" who copy the acts of Nirvana (which would make fun of their own image too, haha. but then self-hate seems to fit their themes well.) i could be totally wrong. |
Tori Amos – Precious Things Lyrics | 16 years ago |
what makes her so angry? |
Placebo – This Picture Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"angelic fruitcake"? man it basically means a beautiful gay dude. that's molko describing himself for sure. although personally i think david bowie is more beautiful. but hey, i don't think any of them is actually gay. but ya, all cross dressers have this thing of getting old and having problems going on with the fashion style. well if you want to generalize it, ya, youthful goodness and craziness goes away before you realize. so let's be very anxious about it. |
Mindless Self Indulgence – Shut Me Up Lyrics | 17 years ago |
oh dude, you are all so wrong. this song is totally about hitting that G# with falsetto! Amazing range, seriously! hmmm as for the song seriously, it's about discipline and defiance. It's funny how they play metal and dance music but the lyric (and the song length) is punk. |
The Cat Empire – Sly Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Do the Louie(?) Do the Genie (?) Do the boom-shak Hit the sack Back seat's feeling alright Do the Monkey shuffle Rocket with a funk stride Do the late checkout With a do not disturb sign Outside Now do the sly |
The Cat Empire – Protons, Neutrons, Electrons Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Life is trivial, and so is anxiety and sorrow. |
The Cat Empire – Lullaby Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"I'm lookin up as I'm lyin' on my back" haha that's sarcastic |
The Cat Empire – In my Pocket Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"but everyone I ever cared about remained" haha the best excuse ever. well it is one of the real reasons, but it's still an excuse. |
Sonic Youth – Teenage Riot Lyrics | 22 years ago |
about a punk(wannabe). |
Sonic Youth – In The Kingdom #19 Lyrics | 22 years ago |
insane, violence and imagination. criticising the irresponsible drivers or being one?i know not much about it. |
Sonic Youth – Hey Joni Lyrics | 22 years ago |
history is a part of human wisdom.future is the living purpose of man. try to put it all behind you,and you will lose everything. isn't it good? anyway... |
Sonic Youth – Death Valley '69 Lyrics | 22 years ago |

Sonic Youth – Free City Rhymes Lyrics | 22 years ago |
the first sunshine in the morning, trying to renew everything. failed. |
Sonic Youth – Candle Lyrics | 22 years ago |
a love song to a candle? |
Sonic Youth – Androgynous Mind Lyrics | 22 years ago |
i don't think this song is religious. it just says being different from the others is ok,whatever you do is right for you,god is at your side. |
The Clash – White Riot Lyrics | 22 years ago |
it says people are too frightened to fight after the education they've received? anyway... |
Radiohead – My Iron Lung Lyrics | 22 years ago |
it's something you need but undoubtly hate it. like medicines for your illness, fake legs, your boss, the selfish audiences(for radiohead),iron lung. finally one day you will get enough of this.then you will find actually you need not. just to suffer and then...die.never big deals. |
Nirvana – On a Plain Lyrics | 22 years ago |
is that "somewhere i have heard this before,in a dream my memory has stored" means deja vu?i really like this part of the lyric."as defence i'm neutered and spayed" is also my fav part,it sounds like a kind of self-control/self destruction, and self-contempt. |
Sonic Youth – 'Cross the Breeze Lyrics | 22 years ago |
this song looks kinda sex-related(don't most their songs?),but when kim shout out "i wanna know i wanna know",her voice is...it definitely mean something.it sounds very sad, angry and also scared. |
Radiohead – Dollars and Cents Lyrics | 22 years ago |
money cracks people's song.radiohead's not the first one telling this.just most people don't really realize it. the phrase "be constructive" is very interesting.i used to think a lot but do nothing,so all my friends always tell me to be more construtive,to get some work to do.i think it's the same feeling thom's expressing. about "all the planet's dead":it's like a isaac ashimov's idea,in one of his stories,he told about people thinks they can go to another planet after we drained the earth drie, just like a small boy went under a tree during the rain and thinking:"if this tree starts dripping,i can find another tree." |
Radiohead – Bullet Proof...I Wish I Was Lyrics | 22 years ago |
i think most of the rock artists will mention "gun" or "bullet".they may all be affected by john lennon's tragedic death.i think this song is about that someone's holding a gun pointing at your head and forcing you to do something you know is wrong. |
Radiohead – I Might Be Wrong Lyrics | 22 years ago |
i think this is about pressure that makes illusion, thinking and dreaming too much, unwilling to face the reality, and being looked on as a strange person. |
