Amen Ra – Le Fils. Des Faux. Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Hey! I replaced the lyrics with your interpretation. In the future, you can submit through the Report Thread in the forums, which will get a mod to replace the original if there's anything that needs to be corrected. I like your interpretation but I'd like to know how the title fits in. "Fils" is French for son, and of course "faux" is fake - I don't speak French, but "des" seems to mean "of" or "some". So the title comes out as "The Son of Fraud"/"A Fake Son" or something along those lines. Maybe the line "I will rise like your son" is a little more ominous if you take that into account... |
The Decemberists – Grace Cathedral Hill Lyrics | 15 years ago |
People are reading into this "it/he" confusion too much. The song never really mentions a proper relationship of any kind between the singer and the girl, so it makes a little more sense that said girl is depressed about *another* guy, and that's why he's trying to cheer her up. Having said that, I really like torpid's interpretation. It explains the white candle, at least. Or maybe if my idea is correct, he bought it for her, and the failed relationship she had? |
The Avett Brothers – Distraction #74 Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Pretty straightforward. Loving someone... but loving someone else, as well. And then losing them both. |
Schvendes – Mary Bell Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Amanda Palmer – Oasis Lyrics | 15 years ago |
... http://www.google.com/search?q=oasis Hadn't heard of the song till I saw that fairly idiotic comment so I thought I'd check it out. Better than her Dresden Dolls shit, I guess. Not particularly "genius," though. |
Okkervil River – Do What You Gotta Do Lyrics | 16 years ago |
My bad; somehow I assumed Nina wrote it, too, even though the page credits it to Jimmy Webb. Nonetheless, Will sings from a female's point-of-view and talks about Nina's version on Daytrotter, so I guess you could say it's more a cover of her version in particular. The liner notes don't mention anything other than Nina making the song "hers eternally." |
Electric Wizard – Another Perfect Day? Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"Like to fade away, to another day Another perfect day" |
Radiohead – Creep Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Oh yes, because great works of literature are only there to appeal to "creapy" people. Lolita isn't sexist at all. How about you figure out what you're talking about before trashing it? |
Elliott Smith – Amanda Cecilia Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Well, I think I'll join stasiuk in being one of the only people to actually discuss the lyrics rather than waste space by talking about how OMFGAMAZING this song is. What I get from it, he's friends with a couple who are a pair of "total opposites" - the girl is some beautiful, sweet, delicate thing and the guy treats her badly and takes her for granted. Elliott (or the song-Elliott, however you want to put it) is in love with her, but stays away because she's with someone else. But he's still there for her, hence how she comes to him to fix the records. The girl still loves her boyfriend for whatever reason, and they end up having a baby. The guy's a drug addict and comes to Elliott to score drugs and Elliott sends him away. The end of the song is them all back where they started. Pretty straightforward. Oh yeah, and it's a lovely song. |
The Mountain Goats – Autoclave Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"This song is about how when people say to you that they understand what's going on with you... and you want to say to them, 'If you understood what was going on with me, then you wouldn't be at my house.'" http://youtube.com/watch?v=8cxmFCS1aTY |
Okkervil River – Do What You Gotta Do Lyrics | 16 years ago |
.. apparently SongMeanings stripped out the URL. Link is to this: http://daytrotter.com/article/1068/forcing-them-to-talk-all-of-them-scene-stealing-what-comes-of-it |
Okkervil River – Do What You Gotta Do Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This is a cover of a Nina Simone song. It's from a Daytrotter session, and is free to download here. |
The Mountain Goats – In the Craters of the Moon Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Small point, but it's actually "In the Craters ON the Moon." |
AFI – The Killing Lights Lyrics | 16 years ago |
... Uh. minimegmona was a troll. I thought that was a little obvious. |
Siouxsie and the Banshees – Helter Skelter (The Beatles cover) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Well, this was most definitely a Beatles song... but I'd love to know how anything in the lyrics could possibly relate to Charles Manson even in the most abstract sense. |
Danzig – I Don't Mind The Pain Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I don't know what's funnier: you thinking that people care about you "calling Satan a fag" or the fact that you came back a few weeks later to reiterate the point. Also, "quote unquote" is kinda pointless if you're typing anyway. |
Radiohead – Street Spirit (Fade Out) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Okay. This is a good song. It's sad, deals with a lot of depressing things and I'm sure it brings a tear to even the most hardened of Radiohead fans' eyes. But I was flipping through a couple of the comment pages, and.. "the saddest song ever written"? "Radiohead is the only band that can pull off a song like this"? "If Radiohead can't do it, no one can"? What the fuck? They're good, yeah... but not the best... And the theme of death and its inevitability has been done millions of times, by millions of bands stretching across every genre. So I don't really think this gets the crowning title. /rant |
The Mountain Goats – Alpha Incipiens Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"Incipiens" roughly translates to "begin." Though an alternative is possibly "to take in hand." Stupid InterTran. But that might shed some light on it, anyway. |
Neutral Milk Hotel – Rubby Bulbs (Live) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
The last verse of this depresses the hell out of me. Brilliant, but still unbelievably depressing. |
Meat Loaf – Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad Lyrics | 16 years ago |
@Bri: "I want you I need you But there ain't no way I'm ever gonna love you" ... Seems pretty self-explanatory. |
Isis – Low Tide Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Uh.. *Aereogramme. |
Isis – Low Tide Lyrics | 16 years ago |
For anyone wondering, this isn't an ISIS song, as such. It's by "ISIS + Aerogramme" and it's on "In the Fishtank 14." |
Neutral Milk Hotel – A&E Melody Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I don't think it was made into a "proper" song, but it's on the Invent Yourself a Shortcake cassette. http://www.the-collective.net/~sashwap/disco.html |
Neutral Milk Hotel – Wishful Eyes Lyrics | 16 years ago |
A few corrections: "Fill this room up with the spirit of your pride" "Trip into the drain" "And if it don't succeed, we’ll just bury all beliefs that we could escape this empty evening" "So just open up the door" And it's not "the world continues though whether or not you're still breathing," but I can't figure out what it is he actually says. Same as the "Little child" verse. |
My Dying Bride – The Dreadful Hours Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I don't really agree about the reference to Jesus Christ... Although it does fit rather well, except the last verse. Either way, it's an amazingly bleak song. |
My Dying Bride – Black Heart Romance Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Vampires. It pretty much follows the same general storyline of the cliche vampire stories that circulate fanfiction and wannabe goth sites. Anyway. The song isn't that confusing. Yes, at the beginning he's "claiming" her. In the middle, he's infatuated with her. At the end, he becomes disgusted with what he's created - a cold-blooded killer. But he's still infatuated with her. Such is the appeal of vampires, if you read Anne Rice books and the like. "Black heart romance" is a reference to their, well, black-hearted romance - believe it or not. |
Cult of Luna – White Cell Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Seems religious, to me. "original sin," "deliver me from guilt," "the other side," etc. It sounds like it's about dying, and finding out what's on the other side - the "source of white light." |
Neutral Milk Hotel – Bucket Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The 'grainy quality' of the song doesn't prove anything except that it was recorded badly. But yes, this is early; 1992 to be exact. http://neutralmilkhotel.org/disco1-nmh.htm Pretty much the Bible for NMH releases. =P |
Neutral Milk Hotel – Circle of Friends Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The lyrics are a lot easier to pick out if you're listening through headphones. =P I hadn't noticed a few of these mistakes until recently.. but yeah, the last three posters are right, as far as I can tell. Full complete lyrics, as far as I have them. Corrections welcome: Greet all your friends and they say hello They tie all your ends until they tie Yourself in again into something whole Something secure and lost inside And climb Away… All of the forces we uphold And all of the dangers we escape You wonder sometimes how long we’ll hold Till all of this anger shows its way Embrace... Away… I'm okay… I'm okay… I'm okay… There are just some things you can't know There are just some things you can't face But I will secure myself and blow Against this disease that you embrace And waste Away… And beginning again takes so much time And all of your friends come to watch you go And as your machine pulls from the drive You watch as their empty eyes [hearts?] explode And blow Away… Away… I'm okay… I'm okay… |
Neutral Milk Hotel – Jennifer Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Actually, there is no "actual" title. Jennifer is just the title most people assume it has; none of the unreleased songs from this particular demo have titles. |
Black Light Burns – Lie Lyrics | 17 years ago |
... Well, I'll admit I don't know a lot about Black Light Burns - if they have a history with Limp Bizkit, then teapot might be right. But honestly.. The lyrics are so vague that I don't see how that could be the case. And if anything, the song is self-deprecating; the person in it is living the same lie as the person it's sung to. I agree with miserablef, it sounds like a satirical stab at Hollywood (or the music industry) and how they "keep building and building their feculent franchise... they operate on jealousy and lust". |
Angelspit – Vena Cava Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Hm. I don't know if it's meant to say "Terror toma," but that's what's on the official Angelspit page. But anyway, it's a reference to a teratoma (a giant tumor). I personally don't see any connection to drugs... I agree with sei-kun, I've always thought it was about shallow people. |
Mr. Bungle – The Girls of Porn Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Ironic. I'm assuming 'soulmatesneverdie' has never heard of sarcasm. |
Snot – Absent Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Argh. I wish someone knew the full, proper lyrics.. |
Neutral Milk Hotel – April 8th Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I don't think this song has a happy ending. At the end, the narrator is still alone, wanting somebody to be there. No idea about the date; something personal? |
Anarchy Club – Behind The Mask Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Agreed, it's pretty straightforward. =P Don't suppose anyone knows if Anarchy Club have more than two songs? |
System of a Down – Blue Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I don't think it's anything to do with "pours". For a start, the word is "pores". Besides which, it sounds more like "my closed heart's artery". That's what I thought, when I first heard the song. And, according to several other lyrics sites, I'm not the only one. o.O |
The Mountain Goats – Teenage World Lyrics | 17 years ago |
From Wikipedia: Dextroamphetamine is a powerful psychostimulant which produces increased wakefulness, energy and self-confidence in association with decreased fatigue and appetite. (Dexedrine is a brand name of dextroamphetamine.) Make of it what you will, because I tried to figure this one out but I can't find any meaning. ;-) |
The Cranberries – So Cold In Ireland Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I always thought it was 'Are they waiting for me?'. |
Queens of the Stone Age – Like a Drug Lyrics | 17 years ago |
KS... Oddly enough, that's the exact thought that I had when I heard it. |
HIM – I Love You Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I have no idea what I'm doing on the HIM page, but quiffporn's comments were the absolute most hilarious comments I've ever seen. Talk about pwnage... Kudos to you. =P |
The Mountain Goats – No I Can't Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Are there multiple versions of this song? Because the one I have is extremely different. |
Brian Posehn – Metal By Numbers Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Epic. |
Mattafix – Big City Life Lyrics | 17 years ago |
... What the hell? Does anyone else find it odd that multiple new accounts were created on the same day, commented on the same song within minutes of each other, haven't commented anywhere else and all are typed exactly the same? I mean, yeah, I get it. Fake comments, or whatever. But... why? It doesn't really accomplish a whole lot... |
The Mountain Goats – The Black Ice Cream Song Lyrics | 17 years ago |
*shrugs* I was looking around for events of August 19, 1957... Couldn't find anything, but it was only a quick search. Unless I'm missing something, I think it's a personal event. Something connected to a family member, perhaps. |
Meat Loft – Bat Out of Hell Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Erm... Meat.. Loft? |
Akon – Don't Matter Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Well. I haven't listened to this song, but I find this discussion about the supposed homosexual undertones fucking hilarious. =P And here's my two cents: "Men steady comin' after you Women steady comin' after me" Same sex couple? Riiiight. |
Angelspit – Juicy Lyrics | 17 years ago |
These lyrics are hilariously incorrect. I wish that people would listen to the song, instead of Googling the lyrics and uploading them straight from the first site they find. (no idea what you do to correct already submitted lyrics, so here they are) Spin a dice and it's Vegas rigged A glass full of conobine and you’re off your head You take a, a blood shot without the boom Another hit of toxin closer to exhume I'm feelin' lips. I'm feelin' cherry. I'm feelin' ripe. I'm feelin'… Juicy. Juicy… You look so pretty with your diamonds and your designer botox. You'll have to put something special in that little red box… Got no cards, but you’ve got your hand Her snake eyes are casting a diamond disdain And now you got no sleeves wishin' you could cheat Try to run away when you ain’t got feet… I'm feelin' lips. I'm feelin' cherry. I'm feelin' ripe. I'm feelin'… (Lickin’, suckin’, fuckin’…) I’m feelin’… Juicy. Juicy… Razor, ruin, rust, restrain Mutilate your body but don't touch your name Rancour, ruin, wrath, erase Better lose an eye than lose face. One more black line will ease that limb away Mind destroying angel made your judgment sway Exsanguination left you insane, But it’s hard to use an axe when you ain't got hands I'm feelin' lips. I'm feelin' cherry. I'm feelin' ripe. I'm feelin'… (Lickin’, suckin’, fuckin’…) I’m feelin’… Juicy. Juicy… |
Megasus – Red Lottery Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Bah! Beat me to submitting the lyrics... =P |
A Perfect Circle – Believe Lyrics | 17 years ago |
From what I heard, a lot of the confusion was from the band (or possibly just some fans) putting the songs on p2p networks under APC, to get the band more publicity. Then most people, being as inherently stupid as usual, ignored the part in the 'comment' section of the track that said to check out livingsyndication.com and took the tracks as being bootlegged APC songs. |
