Radiohead – Optimistic Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Could the song title be a reference to the general (uneducated!) opinion of a lot of the general public (particularly emphasised by the tabloids) hold, that Radiohead are depressing? To me, calling one of their songs "Optimistic" is ironic. Great song, certainly agree that the "big fish eat the little ones..." bit is about capitalism. |
Bloc Party – Flux Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Just did a search because like CALLEY_roadtojoy I thought it was derived from the Bible - here it is. "And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell." |
Elbow – An Audience with the Pope Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"And the things that she's asked me to do Would see a senior saint forgetting his name" is very similar to "What she asked of me at the end of the day Caligula would have blushed" if you ask me. Not so original after all. Mercury prize?! Meh. |
The Human League – Seconds Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Of course, having assumed it was MLK, it could be Kennedy: the "parade" is the cars going past and if you take the official stance to be true, Kennedy's assasin was in a high building which always seems pretty dark (ie "hiding from the sun") on TV documentaries! The "outside" would here be the people who had come out to greet Kennedy in Dallas Texas and obviously they would be happy if they were JFK supporters! And like MLK the "for a second" is referring to how quickly things turned to dismay that he had been murdered. The shot was definately "heard around the world," being heavily covered in the media for days. The only thing I could link to Lennon was the "waiting for your fame" which is pretty self-explanatory really! |
The Human League – Seconds Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Surely it's about the shooting of Martin Luterh King Jr - the line "After the parade has gone" surely referrs to the rally he addressed the day before (March 3rd 1968) furthermore, "Outside Was a happy place Every face had a smile like the golden face For a second" The "happy place" could be referring to the fact that the Civil Rights acts had been passed if you take "outside" to mean the African-Americans in the Civil Rights struggle. Then "for a second," of course is longer in real life, but for the purpose of the song, but obviously when MLK was murdered, this would have upset many people, regardless of the happiess that must have been felt after the Civil Rights Acts were passed. |
Radiohead – Fake Plastic Trees Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"gravity always wins" is such a great way to describe plastic surgery! with the risk of sounding childish - boob jobs methinks |
Pendulum – Showdown Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"I just had to leave you girl?" maybe... |
Radiohead – 4 Minute Warning Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I reckon it's about the 4 Minute Warning system during the Cold War, but I think the song is relevant to the 7/7 bombings in London as well. |
New Order – Bizarre Love Triangle Lyrics | 16 years ago |
isn't this about Ian Curtis? watch control if you don't know why lol. but the line "Every time I see you falling I get down on my knees and pray" makes sense - Curtis was epileptic (sp?). |
Radiohead – 2 + 2 = 5 (The Lukewarm) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i assuemd that it was referring to 1984, in the third section when Winston is being "cured" by the Party because they think he his mad - a lot of the song referrs to how they can controll whatever they want like "January has April's showers" or "Oh, go and tell the king that the sky is falling in," and there is a hint of 'wanting to be cured' "I try to sing along I get it all wrong," and at the end acceptance: "Oh, go and tell the king that the sky is falling in But it's not But it's not But it's not Maybe not Maybe not" |
Led Zeppelin – Stairway to Heaven Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i dont know what this song is about, but the back masking thing is the biggest joke EVER. |
Franz Ferdinand – 40 Ft. Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Salt scales upon my drying arms Burn my back beneath the sun But I am cold beneath the burning rays Looking down, looking down Down, down again I think that's about being in a happy situation but you're so down you don't care. |
Franz Ferdinand – Get Away Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this song is amazing, nick sounds so camp when he sings it |
Franz Ferdinand – You're The Reason I'm Leaving Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this line always makes me wonder I'd no idea that in four years I'd be hanging from a beam behind the door of number ten I think it's a reference to Tony Blair. The door of number 10 fits (10 Downing Street). And the 4 years thing, well this song was recorded in 2005, 4 years after the band formed. So it's talking about fame, when they formed they had no idea that even the PM would listen to their music. |
Franz Ferdinand – Auf Achse Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i saw franz ferdinand and before they played this they said something like "this is about a lonley truck driver" there is an acoustic version of this song which was a b-side called truck stop the title is a reference to a programme nick used to watch as a child in germany. |
The Libertines – HorrorShow Lyrics | 17 years ago |
it sounds like "hitler is a screw" lol, I wish it was it would be funny. this song is about heroin I think. |
Franz Ferdinand – I'm Your Villain Lyrics | 17 years ago |
the line - ive got ready salted on your belly if you wanna have fun is a reference to a friend of alex kapranos' who had a boyfriend who thought it would be fun to tip a packet of ready salted crisps on her and pour a pint of beer over them... |
Radiohead – 2 + 2 = 5 (The Lukewarm) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
it seems to be about 1984 - when the party tries to reform the main character, they tell him that 2+2 do not have to equal 4, they can equal 3 or 5 or anything - they equal whatever the party says they equal. it shows the power of the party that they can control what a sum equals. I think this song is about trying to break away from tghe idea that someone controls everything and to try to be your own person. if that makes sense |
Muse – Screenager Lyrics | 17 years ago |
it seems to be a follow up to citizen erased as far as im concerned |
