ok, this is going to take a while XD ‘The thing called love disappears when it becomes solid.’ When the excitement and fun drains from the relationship, the love disappears. The relationship has become ‘solid’, it’s reached long-term status, but the emotion and passion has left. Kyo uses ‘thing’ to be deliberately ambiguous-‘thing’ could refer to the emotion, the person or the actual relationship. ‘the answer you whispered from behind me.’ He can’t face her, she’s not really talking with words but more her attitude, answering his thoughts about the relationship. ‘your back not overly jealous.’ He can tell from her body language that she is aware of the decaying relationship but doesn’t care ‘I fawn over you, pretending not to see it.’ He tries to ignore the fact that the love has disappeared ‘We won't need words if we can seek the night together. We won't need love, to go to a darkness with no place to step. ‘ The only thing keeping the relationship together is sex, but it’s passionless. ‘When I awoke, by my side was your face I've grown tired of seeing. It's too much for you, all worn out. ‘ He’s sick of being unfulfilled by passionless sex, it deeps pointless. ‘The cold night froze even the cold moon The moon sank and lit up the cold sea.’ Kyo describes the relationship getting colder and the speaker of the poem becoming more unhappy. ‘Be a flower, be a butterfly, prick me with the poison thorn’ He wants the relationship to go back to how it was, he wants he to be beautiful again, he wants to be in love again. ‘be a flower, be a butterfly’ are demands. He’s demanding her to be something that she is not. He wants were to change, but knows it is impossible. ‘The sinful time can't destroy the hourglass, ‘ The sex can’t change anything, ‘sinful time’ would be the sex, the ‘hourglass’ is the way they have changed over time. ‘the dream of primary colors spread out, the balance lost’ primary colours suggest childhood or childishness, in this context he’s referring to a simpler time. He longs for the time when they were in love and the relationship worked. ‘the sinful feelings can't destroy the hourglass.’ No matter how he feels, he can’t change the fact that they no longer love each other. ‘the wounds are too deep, i lose sight of what's before me, just watching that figure’ The damage is done and there is no fixing it, the idea of leaving her is unthinkable, but the love is gone from the relationship and cannot be returned. ‘We won't need words if we can seek the night together. We won't need love, to go to a darkness with no place to step.’ They’re still trapped in the relationship for convenience sake, they don’t want to be alone, but being together is fruitless ‘prick me with the thorn of a love, not loved and unable to love.’ He wants to love her again, and wants to be loved in return ‘writhing in agony, aren't you ashamed to be so indecent?’ The intimacy is gone from the relationship yet the continue to have intercourse-which is rather tasteless. Having sex without love could be seen as indecent. ‘you'll never be the same again but, pour the sweet saliva.’ They won’t go back to how they were, but they’ll continue to be together. |

This is obviously about being betrayed and lied to so many times you can't believe anyone anymore. 'I have fun listening to your lies... I shout out joy and you shout for help' the narritive character is getting their revenge while the other person makes excuses after doing something to betray the speaker. 'I'm your worst nightmare, Fuck off!I wanna die!' the speaker is discovering that revenge doesn't make anything better, and just wants to die to avoid more pain. 'You deceived me and sold me out Take off that mask of rectitude! Pretender that hurts one's eyes, voice that jars on one's ear' He's sick of people lying, he's basically saying shut up or tell the truth. 'The maze, it's so cold I'll die in a world of lies and deceits By tomorrow I'll be in despair It was destined' The maze is a symbol for the world, he feels lost within the world because of people lying too him, he doesn't know who to believe. The paranoia and insecurity is driving him into insanity and suicide. |

This is the cleverest song Kyo's every written. the repition of 'give me' shows how everyone wants and craves things, it's human nature to want things. In 'give me laugh', give me pain' he's asking for joy and pain-the two most basic human experiances. 'give me high' is asking for more then the basic emotions, he's asking for more, then 'give me nothing' is taking back that request-he'd rather not know what it was to feel. the lines afterwards are just as important. 'everyone feels if time should end this dream full of contradictions will...' the sentence ends unfinished, but it's open to interpritation, it's something everyone fears-that when they die their dreams will result to nothing. 'with every time we've embraced, can I love you? I who am full of contridictions...' He's been doubting his ability to love because of his own flaws, he feels he's too flawed to give love honestly. 'time will end' to 'love without warmth' shows how as time goes on the relationship degrades. 'An end begins a trivial matter' to 'the time, sleeping with a kiss to unheated death.' decribes how the relationship collapses and he blames himself for not being able to love 'the dream withers and returns to the sand will the dream bloom again someday inside of me?' He's asking if his ability to love will return and the 'dream' will mean something when time ends. 'I can't recall the dream that left me will your voice reach to my very core? but..... time will end time will change me, you, now, will be branded into the flow of time time will stop at the end of time we'll kiss and then sleep in this love without warmth Give Me nothing if time should end ' He's subjected himself to lonliness and will prefer to have nothing then lose everything at the end of time |

In my opinion, this song is about rape and the concequences-in this case a child. 'if she paints her lips scarlet can you do it again?' is asking the rapist that if the woman that he raped and left pregnant is still an attractive victim to him, and after the child is born, could he rape her again. It's probably the thoughts of the woman in labor, and she fears that once the child is born she'll be a victim again. 'midwinter season, the butterflies dying everything a snowy landscape you crawl up out from inside the well the woman laughing loudly' Kyo uses pathetic fallacy to set the scene. autumn and winter are the seasons of death-more so november then any other month. The woman has had her child and is driven mad by the fear that she will be a victim again-hense the repition of the word 'victimization' in the chorus. She also has a deep hatred for the chils because of its conception. 'let your sexual desires bloom let the woman's corpse bloom let your desires for pregnancy bloom let next year's spring bloom let your own desires bloom let's bloom in Kyoto ' Concidering the use of winter in the previous verse/bridge the woman killed herself after deciding she would rather die then be raped again. Kyo uses pathetic fallacy again with 'spring' which is the season of rebirth and fertility-which suggests the rapist found a new victim and impregnated her too. The dires blooming in Kyoto just gives the song a setting-as well as the woman wearing a Yukata, he's putting it within a time setting of when Kyoto was the capital when, of course, no one could get abortions and had to live with the concequences of their actions and a rapist couldn't just use a comdom. |

The ultimate 'death do us part' song. He loves this girl so much he'd die for her, and his only wish is to die, looking into her eyes and telling her how much she means to him. Beautiful. Though, admittedly, far-fetched. I prefer Kyo's writing (Dir en grey) because he just writes down the raw feelings and doesn't dress them up as movies. This one's a lot like Ain't afraid to Die, maybe the girl is already dead? So he ants to be with her, and is his last moments he sees her face, as if her spiret's greeting him. |

for the first line I think 'I screamed for you, but you're not here to here me' could be a better translation. I'm not sure though. also 'melting into the wound... you' could also be 'Becoming the wound...my darling' Anata is a familier term often used by couples, it could be translated to darling, so everything Kyo's used 'anata' as 'you' could also be 'darling' Maybe that makes more sense. >> This song makes me cry. People can relate to this song because everyone has been hurt at some point in their lives, everyone has done something they regret in their past and everyone has been betrayed in some way. This song is about losing faith in life altogether because you been so betrayed, so hurt, that you can't trust anyone. You can't let anyone close to you. You can't trust yourself, and in this state you have practically no life. I think this song sort of ties in with Zakuro, it could be about the same thing. Kyo's past doesn't end with his childhood. He was betrayed big time in the most hurtful way-I imagine he's still a little effected by that. AS for his live performence, I think it's a shame you can't see it's nothing short of amazing. I would rarther he gave everything into his performence and sound 'retarded' then he gave nothing and ounded perfect. And a lot of the time he's giving his all and still sounding flawless. I love Kyo's voice, I adore his writing and I hope I've helped you understand how people can relate :) |

Their style has been constently changing, I love this song, it shows how much Kyo's vocals and lyrical ability has matured and improved. They're still Dir en grey, they still sound like Dir en grey, they've just matured. 1) Kyo was never abused as a child, he says he had a fairly normal/happy childhood (which i suppose makes you wonder wth is going on in his head) 2) I think they song is more about miscarrage then abortion. To me 'How many secret hangings of the premature baby tonight under the red moon' makes me think the baby was miscarried or still born prematurely. 'Colour of pomegranate...sting with the prick and disappear far away' gives the impression that the women becomes depressed after the loss of her child and commits suicide, and the song is her looking back on what happened, like when the child was conceived, when the pregnecy sickness began, when she lost the child (the father of the child is not mentioned at all in this song, so maybe he left her to raise the child alone) and at the end she dies. Just my theory. |

This is probally the best Dir en grey song ever, 10 minutes of pure genius. This is Kyo at his most disturbing, as always telling the story trough the most painful and obscure perspective. Compleatly warped and haunting, esspecially how he sings it, with small tortured cries becoming more pained and frantic as the song goes on. Compleatly heart-breaking. The video is also, extreamly clever, showing the abortion from the mothers perspective and how she goes insane at the end. This is the reason I adore Kyo so much, his writing is just so mind-blowing, contraversial and beautifully written, even with the harsh, sadistic edge. I showed my friend these lyrics, she truely felt pysically sick but went on to say that even though it's compleatly barabaric it was, in a sense, beautiful. |
