this song is all describing a meeting with gibbard's girlfriend that he expects will be bad and happens to be bad. i think the first line is just describing scenery, its the winter blah blah. and then i think the "2s or 3s" is hes seeing people in pairs and in threes like a boyfriend and girlfriend and maybe another parter :). all the way up to "feeling it soaking through my shoes" is just showing that its a melancholy day. Then it goes to "feeling it soaking through my shoes" which shows that he knows something bad is coming and hes feeling the sadness all around him in the cold winter day. the "i was a kaleidoscope" line describes the irony of the situation because his glasses have impaired his vision and he can still tell what shes saying. "this is when i forget breathe all the things i scripted, they sound unfounded" is describing now that shes saying she wants to go her seperate way hes starting to freak out and lose grip a little. the next line ("this aint working anymore") is pretty straight foward. (note: i thought it was this aint working out too but the anymore drops off at the end of the verse and he kind of hints the "more"part of it). the next few lines confuse me. I think its just showing that hes watching all the families play and he feels so alone like the children whose noses are blue. the final lines just wrap up the song and repeat verses. |
