Dire Straits – The Man's Too Strong Lyrics
| 5 years ago
|
In an interview that appears in a book, "Written in my soul" by Bill Flanagan [1] Knopfler explained the lyrics:
On "The Man's Too Strong" [Brothers in Arms], I tried to do a study in guilt and hatred and fear. On some levels, you can almost see a Hess-like figure, in the depths of Spandau. You might see somebody who's just not at peace with himself. It's always interesting to me that any kind of heavy censorship, like book burnings, has always failed in the long run. That kind of suppression. I was just trying to get in the mind of somebody who's lived his life that way. There's nothing very heavy about it, it's just an experiment in character and playwriting. That song is absolutely not me. It's like Randy Newman talking about being a closet gay truck driver. |

Vertical Horizon – You're A God Lyrics

I think he is repeating her woirds back to him "you're a god"
He diesn;t like to speak that way - it is not him "But I've been unable
To put you down
I'm still learning things I ought to know by now
It's under the table so
I need something more to show somehow"
That is what i get anyway.... |

Vertical Horizon – Finding Me Lyrics

I think this song is about a guy who is in love with a shallow girl.... He is finding himself and she just goes on being shallow. He is capable of deep emotions and can respect them while she flitters around.... I like some suffering. She is careless with his feelings and has no clue about real love... waiting on sombody else agian...
It fit perfectly with a girl I was foolish enough to fall for.... |

My ex loved this song - I was never exposed to it, I learned to love it. At the time I didn't know she would become my baby blue - at least now I can smile when I think of her... |

Jimmy Buffett – Margaritaville Lyrics

If you listen to the tune he starts out saying it's no bodies fault - then maybe his fault - then his damn fault. He likes his Margaritas and they help him hang on. As for calling someone a loser for the way they choose to deal - get over yourself it is a tune and a damn good one, so be it. |
