The Killers – Daddy's Eyes Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Obviously about a father trying to explain to his young son why they are getting a divorce (his adultry). The line is "I know that you're cold because you never even knew that it was hurting me" because the child is angry at his dad for leaving, he's not old enough yet to understand why his dad did such things or why he's leaving, and how it pains him to leave because he still loves the boys mother (re the "I love her too") line. I think the whole "you got your daddy's eyes" metaphor is referring to the fact that when he's older, the son will see things through his father's eyes and understand the situation in a new light. It might even imply that the son will be tempted to cheat himself when he's older. |
The Killers – Deadlines And Commitments Lyrics | 11 years ago |
aw I like that interpretation and I definitely get that feeling from it too. Something my father would/has said to me many times. |
The Killers – Deadlines And Commitments Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I think it should be "I'll catch you darlin', I'll be waiting, I am on your side" |
Foals – Mathletics Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Count me out, Mathletics. Man I love their wit. |
Foals – The French Open Lyrics | 14 years ago |
typo, that should just be "air sur la terre", no e on sur. |
Foals – The French Open Lyrics | 14 years ago |
^ Erm, no. "air sure la" = air on the "d'air sur la" - of air on the It's just like if the song was in english, A bit of air on the earth of air on the of air on the Of air on the earth |
The Killers – Read My Mind Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think you're right about certain parts. Maybe not all of it, but I do think he had Thunder Road in mind when writing it. I remember reading or hearing an interview in which Brandon said Thunder Road was one of the most powerful Springsteen songs, for him personally. |
Rufus Wainwright – Martha Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think, for obvious reasons, this is to/about his sister Martha Wainwright and about wanting to finally move past all the drama and difficulties their family has faced. This is a recurring theme on the new album, All Days Are Nights, particularily in the song Zebulon. The first verse, talking about his mother makes me sad. She passed away just a few months ago. :( I think though, that this ending brought their family closer together, and I'm glad Rufus and Martha were there for Kate in her last days. |
Rufus Wainwright – Les Feux D'artifice T'appellent Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I did a rough translation. Forgive me if some of the wording is off, French isa second language for me, and I haven't spoken/read/though it since last summer. The fireworks call you, Come down in the street The fireworks call you, Come down in the street The fireworks call you, Come down in the street The colours in the sky, Burst on the city The fire sky that smokes Comes down in the street And love no longer waits This is the joy of elation All of Paris is in celebration I remain, I remain, I remain I watch, watch, watch Young men, go down with their mistresses Young girls take advantage of the time left I remain, I remain, I remain here I watch out of my big window The fireworks are finished They didn’t last long The fireworks are finished They didn’t last long |
Bon Iver – Roslyn Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I completely agree! it's outstanding. the soundtrack outdoes the movie by a landslide. all of the songs are beautiful and by some amazingly talents musicians. I don't really think of the bands as "selling out", but rather trying to reach a new audience. And frankly, if they can get 14 year olds to listen to real music like this, instead of like Miley Cyrus, then by all means I'm supportive of it. |
The Killers – Tidal Wave Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I love the acoustic version on youtube better than the studio version. Brandon's voice in perfect in it, which really says a lot, considering it was live and without mic, the only support being Dave on guitar. It really blew me away the first time I saw it, and continues to everytime. One of my all time favorite performances ever. |
Leonard Cohen – Hallelujah Lyrics | 14 years ago |
that's beautiful: "all songs are a prayer at some level or another" I believe it. Listening to music is as close as I've ever come to a religious experience. |
Leonard Cohen – Hallelujah Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I wouldn't say best. There are probably hundreds of covers of this. I'm more a fan of Rufus Waiwright and Jeff Buckley's versions. |
The Filthy Youth – Come Flash All You Ladies Lyrics | 14 years ago |
yeah, it sounds like a girl, with a reputation as a slut, who had a baby or two in her teens/early twenties. she's living in poverty pretty much, but she wishes she could dress like more sophisticated women, and she's going to university maybe to get the education she missed out on in her youth. |
The Filthy Youth – Le Soleil Lyrics | 14 years ago |
wow these lyrics are very off. I'm not sure on all of it, but this is what I hear: If you were one for the local boozer A midweek stick upon life below the stairs It's the 21st century Everyone drinks and no one cares And the world is headed for a better place No smoke in pubs and no disgrace Sunglasses they hide my face My eyes will tell the tale I’ll take it back down when we were young Your dad kicked —can’t make out the rest of this line, a name perhaps?- Taking all the fun Can I have it back please? Can I have it back please? Oh who loves the sun? Oh who loves the sun? Well not everyone Oh who loves the sun? Oh who loves the sun? Well not everyone It pops its head round the bend And shakes your confidence Well we’ll work on that Something for the drinkers something for the smokers Something for the girls in the late night poker (?) My red heart keeps me up Shorts and a chat will start me up (?) I met a girl from the wrong side of the bed She kicks up a fuss and argues No confusion if you’ve had a few Oh, can I have it back please? I want it back please Oh who loves the sun? Oh who loves the sun? Well not everyone Oh who loves the sun? Oh who loves the sun? Well not everyone So what of bright hot summer days? And if you wanna hide away with an umbrella Keep your man, darling keep your fella Keep my passion and trustworthy (?) Trust him with your life Do you trust him with your money? The city never sleeps I don’t earn my money to earn my keep Love is seeping through the gaps Take me somewhere off the map Can I have it back please? Can I have it back please? Oh who loves the sun? Oh who loves the sun? Well not everyone Oh who loves the sun? Oh who loves the sun? Well not everyone |
The Killers – Tidal Wave Lyrics | 14 years ago |
yeah, I agree silversun. I think the two stories sort of fit together. |
The Killers – Sweet Talk Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I hear "time for towering sweet fuck" as well. though it's not like them to have swearing, so I'm not sure. |
The Killers – The Ballad of Michael Valentine Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I read in an interview somewhere that Ronnie really had to beg Brandon to write this, because Brandon wasn't that interested, but Ronnie assured him Michael (Ronnie's old bandmate) would make for an interesting song. I'm glad he convinced him because I love this song. I love the Brando and Garbo references too, it's a nice touch. |
The Killers – Daddy's Eyes Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Stolensoul is right. This is a quote from Brandon himself, before the song was even released: "This is about a Father telling his son that he cheated on his mother and is going to leave home, but is explaining that it isnt his son's fault. No,its not a personal experience, but everyone will be able to relate to it. This will make people cry" |
The Killers – A Dustland Fairytale Lyrics | 14 years ago |
it's PAWN and "out where the dreams all hide." |
The Killers – Desperate Lyrics | 14 years ago |
ah, but that's the beauty of love songs m'dear. if we actually went around talking the way songs are written, we'd all seem crazy. it's just a way of expressing deeper emotions. lovely song btw. I also love how young Brandon sounds in it. so sweet. I don't think he should have scrapped all of these, but I guess he made the right decision, since they got famous so quickly with Hot Fuss. |
The Killers – Who Let You Go? Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I agree the "ohhh" at the end is lustful. But I don't think it's about a psychopath. I think it's about a girl that this guy likes, but he has to be careful with her because she was either raped or sexually abused in some way. Here are my interpretations: We could be friends And I promise that it won't get bad But hopefully THIS story ends WITH you ain't got nothing I never had So let's take it slow [Obviously, he's telling her they can take it slow and start as friends, promising her he won't hurt her. I think it should be "but hopefully this story ends, with you ain't got nothing I never had", and by that I think he means that he hopes eventually she will be comfortable enough with him to have sex] Someone must have loved you Not the way that I do... You're missing what I'm trying to say Ain't nothing getting in my way [Someone "loved" her by raping her or abusing her somehow, but he really loves her. And then he's telling her it doesn't matter to him, he's sticking by her no matter what.] I don't know what it means But I've been wondering Who let you go? [Maybe he's not sure exactly what happened, just that someone hurt her in the past] |
The Killers – Move Away Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Not many comments on this and I'm not sure what it means. I just have to say I love the line "take your skin off when you listen to me". I'm curious as to what was going through his mind when he wrote this. |
The Killers – All the Pretty Faces Lyrics | 14 years ago |
^ yes, a few others have mentioned that before. I don't think it's about drugs, Flowers has stated that he has never tried drugs, not even a joint. While the Mormon theory is possible, I'm still leaning more towards the fan theory.0 The way I see it is he was struggling with his new found stardom and having girls (all the pretty faces throw themselves at him night after night. Hence the "two long years", since that was about how long they'd been famous when he wrote the song, I believe. He doesn't feel like touching the fans sometimes, because, like others have said, he doesn't quite trust himself. I'm thinking he slept with a fan once, early on in their rise to fame... Either way I think it's showing his personal conflict with how he deals with fans and his love. |
The Killers – All the Pretty Faces Lyrics | 14 years ago |
hah i wish. i love ronnie and bflow. that would be so cute. |
The Killers – Don't Shoot Me Santa! Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I agree with Xhil. Bflow is very religious and I'm sure he wrote this with at least a slight religious undertone, as with many of his songs. I don't think it's about a pedophile, just a kid who got made fun of, and, like others have said, finally snapped and got revenge. Now the kid feels guilty and fears he's going to be punished. |
Mika – One Foot Boy Lyrics | 14 years ago |
it is "one foot boy, eleven stone" stones are the british measurement for weight. 11 stone equals 154 pounds. in the art booklet that comes with the cd, there is a newspaper with a personal ad that reads "1ft tall boy seeks sensitive partner with a comfortable shoulder. Short but makes up for it in droves. Full of life and big appetite." which I think implies they are overweight, 1 foot tall and 11 stone/154 pounds would definitely be obese. but obviously it has another deeper meaning, which I can't seem to figure out at the moment. maybe it just means all his problems seem to weigh that heavily on his shoulders. |
Bright Eyes – Amy in the White Coat Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"It's the reason I made you, it's the bond that we share" That line specifically makes me sick to my stomach. To think he 'made' his daughters just to molest them, it's sickening. This song is so heartbreaking and beautiful. How he covers the horribleness of the meaning with his soothing whispers, it's intense, as others have said. Oh, and my name is Amy, which is how I first sumbled upon this song, but thankfully I've never had to experience any of this. |
The Fratellis – Baby Fratelli Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I agree with Credendo's view. The line "so easy to be Friday's nightmare" implies that he knows he would regret it if he slept with her, but it's just so tempting. |
Metric – Gimme Sympathy Lyrics | 14 years ago |
it should be "c'mon baby play me a song, like here comes the sun" instead of "something" just saying. sorry if someone alread pointed that out. |
The Used – The Taste Of Ink Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I always thought it had something to do with his (ex-)girlfriend Kate. And I'm pretty sure she overdosed while pregnant with their baby, not the car crash story, but anyway. I just found this article about it saying "McCracken - who used to date KELLY OSBOURNE - had split with his partner KATE before her fatal drug overdose on 4 July (04), but the pair had mapped out a future together to give their kid the best possible upbringing." And this album was released in 2002, so it was before the overdose. I breaks my heart everytime I think about it. He also said: "It's so strange. She was pregnant with my baby. We had decided to keep the baby and try to stay friends and work it out." I'll take your hand and pick you up And keep you there so you can see As long as you're alive and care Those lines always make me think of her and (since it was written before she died) the "alive and care" part is probably about how he was worried about her addiction. |
Kanye West – Stronger Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I just think Kanye should have given a lot more credit to Daft considering the majority of people who listen to this song have no idea who DP are. They deserve more recognition. |
Classified – The Maritimes Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Love this song, it's right on about everything, haha. Just had to mention, it's Anne Murray, not Anne Marie. |
Bowling for Soup – Friends O' Mine Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I really wish I could relate to this song. I used to be able to, but as of the past year or so my friends and I have kind of grown apart. It makes me really miss the good times we used to have. |
Foals – Cassius Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think I heard somewhere that they used pigs hearts. Either way, I don't really mind, if the animal was dead already why not, it makes for a neat video. I really enjoy it. |
Foals – The French Open Lyrics | 16 years ago |
No, no. I speak french and translated, it means: "A bit of air on earth." Which comes from the lacoste commercials (they came first). Lacoste is often thought of as having tennis attire, therefore they used it in this song about Andy Roddick. There is also the wasted games part later in the song. |
Escape the Fate – The Day I Left The Womb Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think it's beautiful and amazing and definetly one of my favorites off Dying. Looked in my booklet too, and Motherwar_xx is correct. |
(+44) – Baby Come On Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I loveloveLOVE the lines: "And she said I think we're running out of alcohol Tonight I hate this fucking town" Ugh, how I feel so often of my town...minus the alcohol, I'm straight edge. Yeah meaning's pretty clear, like thebennieboi said, it's probably about a friend he knows who he likes more than a friend, but she's always too drunk with self pity to notice that he likes her. So he's getting fed up with her drinking and is trying to get her to realize there's more to life. The past might be terrible, but she's got to move on. |
The Used – Sometimes I Just Go For It Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I agree exactly with SoakinginMercury about the feeling it gives you. I DO cry almost everytime I hear it. Especially if I'm having a rough day, it just seems to let my emotions flood me and just come out when I need them too. It's a relief and a way of releasing myself. That may sound strange but it's true. The most amazing and beautiful piano piece I've ever heard. Simply blows my mind everytime. I honestly think Bert McCracken is the most talented person in the music industry today. He knocks all competition out. I thought about this for a long time, and I realized that even though he as a person seems to have many faults, and problems with his life, but in everything he does, somehow, is perfection. |
The Used – Just A Little Lyrics | 17 years ago |
No, when he's screaming in between verses, I'm pretty sure he's just screaming "feet somehow, god!" because he fades off after saying "you jump back onto your...". And I take it to mean (much like thinkfutile) that it's about someone who Bert trusted and thinks very highly of, but they did something bad that made him confused or "surprised" at how someone so good could do such a bad thing. Or something along those lines. And he just wants the better half of the person, he doesn't want to admit that there is a bad side to this person. |
The Pink Spiders – Adalae Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this song is about a girl he know's or used to be friends/going out with and now a lot has changed and she's working on the streets as a prostitute: "Adalae, everybody knows you're working hard Adalae, you see the sunset on the boulevard" "So arch your back girl cause you're always on display, And you know you're only worth what you get paid" But she's keeping her head held high and pretending everything's ok, even though those who care about her can easily see how messed up her life is: "Adalae, you're only social on the stimulants It's ok cause everybody knows your circumstance" "You've got it all but still you wear a disguise" And then he's just trying to get it across to her, that she doesn't have to do this: "Whatever you do, don't you apologize, Nobody can buy your love" |
The Used – The Taste Of Ink Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Does anyone know exactly when Bert wrote this? Because I just watched the Maybe Memories, and they say how they went to record a few songs in England. I've been to England about 8 times and for some reason I always picture the "bright lit city" as London. Since Salt Lake City isn't very bright lit, I just always assumed he was talking about London. And I also agree with the double meanings. It probably does have a bit of a reference to drugs (as most of the songs do), but mostly it seems to be about getting out of Utah and doing something worthwhile, something that made life living. And I'm guessing "as long as you're alive and care, I promise I will take you there" was directed towards Kate. In In Love And Death Bert says in the thanks that many of the songs were about her. And since she did die from the drugs eventually, that would make the "alive" part make sense. |
David Bowie – Afraid Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I love when he sings "I believe in the Beatles". I love the Beatles and it's always cool to hear others sing about them. |
Neverending White Lights – From What I Once Was Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Absolutely. It's gets me excited for whats next everytime I hear it, even though I already know. I saw them live with OLP and it was amzing. Barely anyone at the concert knew who Daniel was or anything and I was the first one in my area to start screaming for Liar cause I knew ahead of time it was the one where Raine would come out and sing with them, Everyone around me was looking at me like i was crazy, then finally realized who the guy walking on stage was and cheered too. Haha, I felt good. This whole album just fills me up with so much emotion, it's so beautiful. And my favorite singer after Daniel, is Matt Talbot, because his voice reminds me of Stipe, from R.E.M. |
Sum 41 – Heart Attack Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Yeah, this song perfectly describes my summer two years ago. I had the perfect small group of friends. 3 girls, including myself, and 3 guys. And we would hang out everyday, and I mean EVERY day. We stayed up late start gazing and camping in each other's backyards. Oh god it was the life. |
Sum 41 – Heart Attack Lyrics | 18 years ago |

R.E.M. – Star Me Kitten Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Amazing song. I was also raised on my dad's REM collection. And never knew the words, but loved it anyway. One of my earliest memories is when i was about 2, I was in my living room in Toronto dancing with my Dad and my Uncle Mark to REM and my Uncle Mark had bought me a toy tambourine and was helping me tap it to the songs. REM always makes me remember this, so I love them. This song reminds me very much of the relationship I'm in at this moment, thats why I'm posting about it. He feels that he's got everything he can out of the relationship, so he doesn't care anymore. She can do what she wants, but he isn't going to pretend to be in love anymore. |
Two Hours Traffic – Little Missy Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Pretty self explanitory lyrics. I love them so much though. So calm and soothing. It makes me feel like I am being treated like a queen just by listening to it. |
Two Hours Traffic – Heroes of the Sidewalk Lyrics | 18 years ago |
The single, probably a few errors here. Correct it if you know it's wrong please. |
Two Hours Traffic – Girl Up The Stairs Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Ok, so I looked all over the web for Two Hours Traffis lyrics and realized there were none. So what better to do than to put some in. I love this song so much, it's my favorite from the album. It's just so soothing in a simple way. About, obviously, the girl next door. My favorite line is "Beyond the highway signs and underneath all the concrete." Because it makes me think of the park I go to to getaway whenever I need to. |
