Mos Def – Rock N Roll Lyrics 14 years ago
The lyrics and flow are directly ripped off from Chili Peppers, so the statement is hardly absurd, it's a fact. I understand that's hip hop, and I'm fine with it. My issue, and remind you I'm a huge Mos fan, is that this song is hypocritical. If you're going to bash some of rock and roll's greats, don't turn around and copy them a few songs later.
It's also worth noting that the Stones, Zepplin, Hendrix etc. while being an adaptation of the great music pioneered by the early blues greats, only made the music better. Blues riffs and lyrics were simple, their music was elevated in the years to come. Modern day rock groups are not trying to sound like John Lee, or BB King anymore, they're trying to sound like and improve upon Zep and Hendrix...of course most current rock acts fail miserably at this attempt.
Also, the Chili's implement a lot of different styles into their music. they bring funk like stevie and punk like the clash. These facts don't detract from the fact that Mos has no shame in stealing LYRICS and style from a rock group after expressing his distaste with numerous rock artists for doing the same thing.

The Twilight Singers – Papillon Lyrics 17 years ago
Great song. The whole song eludes to ecstasy. Obviously, "I roll and it feels good" is a reference to being on ecstasy, and 'livin from dime to dime' is saying living from bag to bag. Or Dulli could be using ecstasy as a metaphor for anything that consumes a person.

Modest Mouse – Dashboard Lyrics 17 years ago
I see, global warming, holes in the ozone, deforestation etc. As much as we're damaging our fair mother, she still runs. We scheme and we scheme but we never really change. If she decides she's had enough, she'll end us. Until then, we just enjoy the ride. I think that's sarcastic, more than "looking at the bright side of things." We're laughing as we run this place into the ground.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Thirty Three Lyrics 17 years ago
I love how this song is linked to Jesus and the bible. That's the beauty and genius of how the bible was written and how it is still being taught. It can be interpreted and tied to just about anything. Like a horoscope....it's all BS. Personally, I think Bullet is about the church. "the 'church' is a vampire, sent to drain.... Secret destroyers, hold you out to the flames" "And what do I get, for my pain? Betrayed desires, and a piece of the game" If I'm wrong, god delete this message before its posted.

Pearl Jam – Last Kiss (Wayne Cochran cover) Lyrics 17 years ago
Love PJ. Could do without this one. Sad song, sure, but who cares? Simple lyrics, boring music. It would be a cool tribute song if it were only played once in a while, but it's hardly a PJ staple. I could do without hearing it at every concert i go to. Dump it Eddie, along with YL.

Mos Def – Rock N Roll Lyrics 17 years ago
I dig on Mos Def. And his lyrics about the Stones are somewhat valid. Their roots certainly come from old blues musicians, as do several rock and roll artists. However they never tried to hide that fact, so they are a compliment to old blues musicians, and they do it (did it) well. The problem I have is the hypocracy of the song. Here Mos dogs white musicians for "stealing" black musicians style. Then two tracks later on "brooklyn" Mos takes the flow and lyrics directly from the Chili Peppers.
I give props to Mos for just about everything he does, but this song is unnecessary. We all know who influences who, and that there's rarely any new music styles. Plus, of all the music out there, Hip-hop "steals" the most from other artists. He should have wrote this song about Puff Daddy. Puff is a living tragedy 'music' industry.

Soul Coughing – Lazybones Lyrics 17 years ago
I don't see love song, I'm with the drug references.
Limbs numb and clean, drifting dream to dream. Could be love, but sounds like getting high.
The interesting part to me is the "cool you, miss amaze with a handful of water" Seems like an OD or something. Cool her down with water. Trucks encircling getting louder, possibly emergency vehicles coming in, the sirens get louder as they get closer. When the noise leaves her head and she's ready to sober up and face the world, he'll be there to help.

Sublime – Rivers Of Babylon Lyrics 18 years ago
The great thing about Psalms 137 is the last verse that says, "How blessed will be the one who grabs your babies and smashes them on a rock!" Too bad sublime couldn't incorporate that line...God rewards those willing to kill babies.

Pearl Jam – 1/2 Full Lyrics 18 years ago
I dig this song.
General statement about money, society and the planet. Greed is stealing and destroying everything good about the earth. The rich keep getting richer....there won't be any middle class anymore. Just us slaves and the 5% nation. I never thought about the connection to porch, very interesting.

Mike Doughty – The Pink Life Lyrics 18 years ago
One of Doughty's best here.
My guess is it's about a gay woman? That's all I can think of for "pink life" Plus, she seeks science to prove that homosexuality is a born trait. Being the only outside line, maybe just means he's the only one she can talk to about it, that's not in her circle.

also. Should be *Air turns to water.

Mike Doughty – Rising Sign Lyrics 18 years ago
I have to say drugs too.
Curvature of a flame, the answers that it brings. Resenting the fact that the drugs make him happy. Doughty kicked drugs back in the day. I don't know if still talks about that, but at the shows i've seen him, he was open about that fact.

Iron & Wine – Fever Dream Lyrics 18 years ago
Babies are not capable of understanding what a god is, thus they cannot want a god's love.
Endless numbered days - assurance tomorrow will come. As radio said, someone died. There is no assurance tomorrow will come.
He wants something he doesn't understand, or at least the comfort in knowing that there will be a tomorrow.
