Correct intro:\nWe measure things by what we are\nTo the maggots in the cheese, the cheese is the universe\nTo the worms in the corpse, the corpse is the cosmos\nHow then can we be so cock-sure about our world?\nJust because of our telescopes, microscopes and the splitting of the atom?\nCertainly not\nScience is but an organized system of ignorance\nThere are more things in Heaven and on Earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy\nWhat do we know about the beyond?\nDo we know what\'s behind the beyond?\nI\'m afraid some of us hardly know what\'s beyond the behind.\n(recording of Brother Theodore - Berenice Monologue)

Radiohead – Packt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box Lyrics 10 years ago
This song and many other Radiohead songs give me an "Outer Space" feeling... It makes me look at the bigger picture. All of us, every human, every generation on this planet is searching for a common answer. The big questions of "are we alone in the universe?" and "where did all this come from?" Some take the religious route, some take the scientific route. All in all, we have no other option but to wait. "After years of waiting... nothing came." We've waited generations, and nothing outside earth has contacted us, nothing came, and we haven't found that answer. We know for a fact that we are primitive and incomplete in our understanding of what created the universe. We are trying to be "reasonable" with science and religion, but our minds can't comprehend things such as "infinity" or the idea of making something out of nothing. "As your life flashed before your eyes" is simply about dying. In death, we may "realize" that we were "looking in the wrong place" for these answers. We may realize something that our "reasoning", through our 5 senses, could never explain as a human being. The title itself, "pakt like sardines in a crushd tin box" is describing isolation. The isolation of being stuck on earth, fragile and insignificant in such a broad universe.

Godsmack – Awake Lyrics 14 years ago
In my opinion it's about how people of this country need to wake up and realize how much we are being controlled by the Bilderberg Group, and their plan for a New World Order. Most people in their daily lives believe what they are told, fake it, don't question things, and "make believe that they're always happy." Right out of the lyrics! Godsmack is AWAKE, and they are shoving this song in the faces of all that are not! Think for yourselves people, don't be a sheep...

Love the plugged-in version off "Muddy Banks of the Wishkah". Totally rocks out! And how Kurt raises up his voice for the last verse is so powerful. Best version of the song in my opinion.

The guitar is so clean in this song. Love that sound. I like how he sings "Jennifer Ever" like "Jenni forever". meaning "never leave". Wonder why this never made it on an album?

Pink Floyd – Welcome to the Machine Lyrics 18 years ago
Ok, this is all my opinion, but decided to dig deep on this one.. (that's what we're here for right?) I have a pretty good theory of what the whole "pipeline" thing means too, that some of you were asking about.

First off, If anyone reading this isn't a shallow thinker (which I doubt cause you wouldn't be looking up lyrical meanings of pink floyd songs if you took them at surface value), then you might have considered the fact that our society especially in the USA follows a scheduled upbringing from birth, through school, then finally work, which you are stuck with for life. The machine sound in the beginning of the song symbolizes people being born or manufactured. (the thud sound...) Kind of reminds me of the book Brave New World, which is about cloning human workers in the future. Anyway, I'll break down the lyrics..

"Welcome, my son, welcome to the machine."

The meaning of the "machine" here, is the government, saying "I'm bigger and better than you, hence you are my 'son'. The government is "welcoming" him to work for it. The lyrics take place in the guy's life after school, and right before he starts into the work force that he is being "welcomed" to.

"Where have you been? It's alright, we know where you've been."
You've been in the pipeline, filling in time,
provided with toys and 'Scouting for Boys'."

The government knows "where you've been" while growing up, because as I previously mentioned, it already had scheduled plans to put him through the "Pipeline" of school, which he was forced to flow through from end to end. "Filling in time" is saying that while he was going through this Pipeline, any lull time was spent playing with "Toys" that were "provided" by his parents (and made by society). Now, these toys were to help him waste time so he didn't think about what was really happening...That he was actually being trained to be a gear in the machine of the government. Also he was making childhood friends to spend time with. "scouting for boys". This also "filled in some time" of his childhood, so he didn't have time to rebel against the system.

"You bought a guitar to punish your ma,
and you didn't like school, and you know you're nobody's fool"

Unlike the others, this guy had a skeptical mind, and he rebelled. "He bought a guitar to punish his Mom" is just saying that he rebelled against everything. He also didn't like the 13-year K-12 planned system he was thrown into.. "School".. And he is aware that "he is nobody's fool" and this path/rut he was thrown on is only going to lead him to finally have to be slave to the grind and work his life away for this government.

"What did you dream? It's alright, we told you what to dream."

Again he is being asked rudely "what did you dream?" Which they (gov't) already knew the answer for. Society created material things and ideas. Such as: having a lot of money is what you want! Look at all the nice things you can buy to impress (and be better than) everyone! Since he was already being controlled while going through the "pipeline", society, planted these material ideas into his mind through the use of Envy and Advertising, making him believe he wanted money, and steak dinners, and even an expensive Jaguar brand vehicle. He dreamt to become a rock star so he could have money and fame, and could buy these things. (How many of us haven't dreamt of being a rockstar or an astronaut or a professional baseball player? And, let me ask, how many of us actually became that?)

What he DIDN'T realize was that it's a one in a million shot to become a successful rockstar, and if he didn't make it he is going to have to slave away at a regular job to be able to buy these things that he dreamed of. Therefore the Gov't gets what it wanted (another gear to make a more efficient machine) and the man got what the gov't led him to dream he wanted.

The sad thing about this song, is that it is the reality that we are living in right now.

Ending lyrics...

"Stuck it in the middle, and I shot it in the middle.. and it.. it drove me out of my mind.. I should of know better, said I wish I never met him, said I.. I leave it all behind..."

I've heard enough people write that it's about HEROIN. YES, WE KNOW! It's 100% about Heroin! He finally breaks the habit. "Left it all behind"

Guns N' Roses – Crash Diet Lyrics 18 years ago
It was actually written in 1990. I wish it would have went on the Illusion albums also, when they were released in 1991. They probably never even recorded a studio version, you would think it would have leaked.

In the lyrics does he say "strain" or "pain"?? Also, I think the lines:
"You gotta be a brother, 'cos your family
Oh make it one more time oh make it
Sweet mystery"
actually are..
"You gotta be a brother, LOVE your family
DO it one more time..oh make it
sweet HISTORY"

Insane Clown Posse – Halloween On Military Street Lyrics 18 years ago
The lyrics are so wrong in the beginning.. you guys have the first part corrected, and yes it is COSMOS. But the several lines after that are wrong too. it goes like this.. I'll take it from the beginning, and capitalize the corrections.

We measure things by what we are.
To the maggots IN the CHEESE
The CHEESE is the universe.
To the WORMS IN the corpse
The corpse is the COSMOS
HOW THEN CAN WE, BE SO ?? SURE ABOUT OUR WORTH? (or "SURE ABOUT OUR WORLD")
Just because of our telescopes, and microscopes,
And the splitting of the atom, (CERTAINLY not)
Science is but an organized system of IGNORANCE.
There are more things in heaven and on earth, THAN THE THEORY OF RELATIVITY.
What do we know about the BEYOND?
Do we know what's behind the BEYOND?
I'm afraid some of us hardly know what's beyond THE behind.

I can't tell what he says in between "SO" and "SURE".. That first 45 seconds is the most intersting part of the song. It means that we can't explain what we are. We have no idea how to explain the concept of "Infinity".. or "the beyond"..

Insane Clown Posse – Play With Me Lyrics 18 years ago
Yep, the lyrics are wrong.. nice corrections 40oz2freedom. This song is about how humans, even children, have a throw away lifestyle. The kid loved his new toy for a couple weeks, then got bored of it quick, and it put it away in the toybox. The song is written in first person of the toy (as if it had a mind too).. and eventually after being left and forgotten in the toybox for seven years, it had enough, and wanted it's revenge.

Also, I can see the translation that "theycallmefrog" said about it. about it being about god. ICP references "the other side" in a lot of their lyrics. Meaning a different dimension. "The other side of time". It's meant to be the afterlife.. So in comparison from the lyrics to real life... "I don't like being alone in the toybox, so come be with me and take me to a better place".. is saying "I don't like it here on earth, come take me to the afterlife"

Insane Clown Posse – Prom Queen Lyrics 18 years ago
His Mom is still alive.. In the lyrics. She tells him he looks good in his vest. haha. When i listen to this song I think of the meaning behind it. That not everyone in school was popular and had a perfect upbringing. The kid in the song was very shy, confused about life, and being beat by his Dad, and he felt pressured to make his dad happy because of it. The whole killing of the girl was just symbolism for "I'm confused, and I'd DO ANYTHING for her, and anything to please my Dad" He felt good about himself that day, was dressed up, but was beaten down and laughed at by all the other kids when he asked her to the prom. I like how they put the twist on it with her reply to asking her to the prom.. "I'd rather die".. and he took her literally and actually killed her. Like the mono-toned principal's voice too.. that say's a lot. haha

Insane Clown Posse – Under The Moon Lyrics 18 years ago
Actually, I'm not really a rap fan, but I do agree that if you take ICP at surface value you may think they are the worst band ever, but they do have deep meaning in their songs. You have to look for it and understand them. There is a positive message. I like songs like this that tell an 'extreme' story, yet have a positive message behind them. Yeah, i agree with Muzzy that "Prom Queen" and "amy's in the attic" are similar songs. Also, try "Mr. Johnson's Head (remix), "Play With Me", "halloween on military street", "Ol Evil Eye", "pass me by"..
