Nightwish – She Is My Sin Lyrics 15 years ago
I don't think the "bride too dear for him" necessarily has to be a person. It could also be about lost innocence in general. In fact, I think that's what it IS about. Innocence is the bride, the bride is innocence. Once separated from innocence you can't get it back.

Nightwish – Sleeping Sun Lyrics 16 years ago
I love the second video they made for this song. In the first one Tarja still had her baby fat and was still working on her style (too many hand movements) and I didn't get the bathtub imagery at all. She's incredibly, ethereally beautiful in the fantasy remake, and the guys put on creditable performances as medieval knights.

I love the moment when Tarja's standing with the horse and sings "Until there's nothing left to say" as the sun shines behind her ...

"Swooping low on an ocean deep/Arousing of a mighty monster from its sleep" ... definitely a metaphor for the sex act lol!

Nightwish – Walking in the Air (Howard Blake cover) Lyrics 16 years ago
I don't know why anyone would put this song, or Nightwish, down. I'm 42 and more into classic rock but Nightwish has some good stuff, and former lead singer Tarja is incredible.

So this is an upbeat, inspiring, and not particularly "deep" song. Guess that's a crime for some people.

It was originally about a boy literally flying with a magical snowman to meet Santa Claus (or Kris Kringle or whatever they call him in Finland), but as Nightwish sings it I think it's more about being in love and feeling as you walk with the one you love that you're "walking in the air." As for "arousing a mighty monster from its sleep ..." hmmm ... loverboy must have a BIG, er, ego ...

BTW try listening to Stuck Mojo sometime. "I'm American" and "Open Season" are pro-American, anti-jihadist rockers that will knock your socks off.

Re: snowprincess

It is SOOOO fucking predictable that some left-wing freak with BDS (Bush Derangement Syndrome) is going to offer their shiteating interpretation of this song. Guess what? It's possible to dig rock'n'roll and still love America and hate medieval religious fanatics who fly planes into buildings, chop off heads and hide their women under sacks. Did you hear about the latest al-Quaeda torture chamber they found in Iraq? Why don't you have a problem with Iran's madman president who kills gays and women (for letting themselves get raped) and wants nuclear weapons so he can blow up Israel? No, your irrational hatred of Bush (who, in case you haven't noticed, has bent over backwards trying to use diplomacy and work through the U.N. before resorting to force) blinds you to the very real darkness and evil gathering in the world. When an Islamic nuke destroys an American city, and Americans are living under Islamic shari'a law, you'll be wishing that "cowboy" had used his six-guns a little more.

Sorry for the political rant but I am just so sick of this left-wing shit I want to puke.

Heart – Barracuda Lyrics 16 years ago
Funny ... I've always had a thing for lesbians, but I've never once thought "lesbians!" much less "lesbian sisters!" when looking at the "Dreamboat Annie" cover. I thought it was a very tastefully done photograph of two beautiful and talented female musicians. Compared to a lot of rock album covers even back then, it was pretty tame.

Anyway, some pretty interesting analyses of this thought-provoking yet rocking song. Rock on, Barracuda.

Bob Seger – Shakedown Lyrics 17 years ago
Good grief! No comments about this Number One single? This is a fantastic, fast-paced rocker from the movie Beverly Hills Cop 2. It's got a hard bright edge to it. Bob barks, Bob growls, Bob grunts, sirens wail, and baby, you're BUSTED!

By the way, I think the first line is "No matter what you think you've done" and in the chorus, I think the lyric is "Everybody wants into the crowded LIGHT."

The Hollies – Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress Lyrics 18 years ago
Wanted to add, I don't think this song has any deeper meaning. Whoever wrote it probably just liked those old 20's-30's detective novels and movies where some hardboiled gumshoe solves a case and gets the girl. The song draws a picture and creates a certain atmosphere in a few broad strokes and leaves the listener to fill in the details according to his/her own perception of that era.

BogFrog, it's set in the Prohibition era (1920's-30's) in the U.S. The singer is working undercover for the FBI at a speakeasy. He's about to call the District Attorney to blow the whistle on some illicit activity when he hears/sees a tall beautiful blonde woman in a black dress singing. After she finishes the song she heads toward his table. Just then the police raid the place (how they found out about it, when our hero never placed his call, and why he gets the credit from the D.A. for the successful bust, is not explained). No matter, our hero winds up with a medal and the girl. Kinda reminds me of that fantastic movie, L.A. Confidential (even if that took place in the 1950's) where Russell Crowe's hardboiled cop character ends up with Kim Bassinger.

Kind of surprised there's no comments on this one. Although I haven't been able to make a lot of sense of it myself. I like it, though.

Dishwalla – Counting Blue Cars Lyrics 18 years ago
I think this song is about the fragileness of youth and innocence. The child refers to God as "her" because the child has not been introduced to religious dogmatism that insists God is masculine. At the same time, the child seems to be expecting death, or perhaps a symbolic death (loss of innocence). The child has already seen evidence that life is often hard and unfair and is already in the process of losing his/her innocence.

Heart – Alone Lyrics 18 years ago
This was a number one single, and Nancy Wilson's guitar solo sounds like it was delivered from on high by a goddess of Mount Olympus. I must have listened to it a million times (and air-guitared through the solo half of those times).

Huey Lewis and the News – The Only One Lyrics 18 years ago
A cool song, kind of a cautionary tale ... the cool kid who had it all and lived large but burned out rapidly right out of high school. Yet to the singer he's still the "only one" perhaps because he lived life more fully in that short time than many do in a lifetime.

Eagles – The Sad Cafe Lyrics 18 years ago
That's funny, I never related this song to the band. I always thought it was about the 60's and utopian, idealistic dreams of youth dashed. Of course, I can interpret it the way I want to! :-)

Bob Seger – You'll Accomp'ny Me Lyrics 18 years ago
I was a real late bloomer ... a high school geek who never got a date. It was only after high school that I started gaining more confidence and asking girls out. I was looking for the girl of my dreams, and I listened to songs like this over and over again. I eventually found the girl of my dreams ... and we were together 10 years, and then the "warmth was gone." Now I'm listening to songs like this again. Hopefully next time will be for a lifetime!

Queen – Who Wants To Live Forever Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is about the basics ... life, love, and death. We are all dying. From a physical perspective, love cannot last forever. BUT we can experience a love that is transcendant and eternal. We can experience "forever" (eternity, timelessness) in a day or even a moment.

The final line, I think, is a bit of a warning ... don't wait to long or you may miss out on this experience. Carpe Diem!

Huey Lewis and the News – Heart And Soul Lyrics 18 years ago
I didn't really get into rock'n'roll as a teen, I only started appreciating it when I got older. Huey Lewis helped ease me into the world of rock, and this song along with "Heart of Rock'n'Roll," were two I listened to over and over. This is a song you can dance to all night.

Huey Lewis and the News – Jacob's Ladder Lyrics 18 years ago
JohnDuran, they didn't really do a music video for this one, instead they filmed Huey's live performance of the song to kick off the "Fore!" tour.

I saw Bruce Hornsby, who wrote the song, perform it live. I liked Huey's interpretation better, though.

I'm surprised there's no comments on this song. It's got such rich and haunting imagery. The perfect song for when you're driving by yourself on a lonely stretch of highway in the late evening, into the setting sun.

A song about longing, fading hopes perhaps. I've never really understood the verses from "They'll set up on the bandstand" to "Trying to cross her battle line" though. Any ideas?

Grateful Dead – Touch Of Grey Lyrics 18 years ago
I love listening to this song ... for all the melancholy of the lyrics, it has a rolling, almost joyful sound to it. I remember watching the video and the Dead looked like they were having so much fun playing it.

Just a great song to get you through the rough patches in life when nothing is going right.
