i heard in an interview that this song was written to be "sweet." i agree, i think it is about a love that has already has endured a lot, and now there is a new struggle such as one partner moving away ("do you miss home?") or debating whether or not the relationship can stand being taken to the next level.
i love the whole "nothing's perfect; i'm hoping i'll do" bit. :) |

I think that this song is about the path to self-discovery, as well. I think one of the most important aspects of this song is that the family is there no matter what (they gard his seat, etc.) and he knows it and still relies on them (So, to friends and family/Could you say a prayer for me tonight?).
