I love this song! :] For the lyrics, I'm not sure what they mean actually. Since it's a demo, I guess the lyrics are kind of unfinished. "I don't wanna see you smile" can mean that he doesn't want you to fake a smile and just say that everything is all right, if it's not. That's about as far as I get... |

This is what Bono says about the song in the U2 By U2 book: "`Please´ was written with somebody in my mind, who shall remain nameless. Some of U2's best songs are conversations, even if you don't know who's on the other end of the line. It's not an exact portrait, it's a certain kind of person you'd meet in middle-class Dublin suburbs, who are very sympathetic to the IRA paramilitaries and provide the intellectual support base for militant Republicanism. It's people who think ideas are more valuable than other people. `Love is hard and love is tough, but love is not what you're thinking of.´ It's a song about terror, really. Are there ever any excuses for it? `September, streets capasizing, spilling over, down the drains. Though I understand why they rarely play it live anymore because of 9/11 (if so, usually not more than just a snippet), I think that's a shame, because it's a good song. I know that the lyrics are: If you walk away, walk away I walk away, walk away I will follow. If you walk away, walk away I walk away, walk away I will follow. I will follow. But is he singing very indistinctly or is it just me? Cause I can not hear that he's saying "Walk away, Walk away...." It sounds more (to me, though) like he's saying something like "Walk whatever, do whatever..." I know it makes no sense, but it does not sound even a bit like walk away... is it different versions of this song maybe? (Sorry 'bout my English..) |

This song reminds me of Desire (not lyrically, though). Anybody know why it wasn't relised worldwide??:/ Anyway, I think it's about how we get obsessed our idols and see them as they were some kind of gods. Have you guys seen the music video? I love it! Especially the first time Bono says "..Stay safe tonight.." He looks into the camera, and you feel like you're eye-contacting with him. I totally get the goosebumps there... And he's singing with his heart so much (in lack of a better way to describe it) that you feel like he is sitting next to you and talking especially to YOU. I simply love his voice.. |
