Sonic Youth – Little Trouble Girl Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I have always wondered just what this song was about. The mother-daughter idea sounds pretty right.. In the clip, there is this weird alien thing and i didn't really know how that fitted in, hmm... anyway, Sonic Youth are amazing! timeless.. |

Darren Hanlon – Falling Aeroplanes Lyrics | 18 years ago |
yup, what a beautiful song.. Darren is such an amazing writer! i agree with everyones comments so far, (i wish someone had written this for me) I love the description of music: "And although you say your songs are fundamentally air there's also thousands of vibrations that stimulate the ear in such a way that whenever I hear them they always make me smile." |
Darren Hanlon – (There's Not Enough Songs About) Squash Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This is such a grand song, makes me grin everytime i hear it.. his lyrics are just so incredible, they always fit together so well, i guess the meaning is quite clear: there is just not enough songs about squash (even though its such a fantastic game), but he has an amazing voice that suits his quirky lyrics perfectly.. |
The Decemberists – Billy Liar Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I've read the book Billy Liar by Keith Waterhouse, I bought it in a bookshop because i thought it might be like the song. Although, after reading it, i looked for links, (that was a few years ago now..) but i couldnt find any strong links at all. So maybe its just a coincidence.. i dont know, But the book was good, i really liked it.. haha This is such a good song, i was why i began listening to The Decemberists.. such a cheeful tune, always has me tapping along. |
The Mountain Goats – This Year Lyrics | 18 years ago |
yep, agreed. its about being the age of 17/18- the freedom, and lack of it, school and the people around you... Im 17, not long ago i went on a road trip with some friends, we played this song as we drove along in the car, the themes in the lyrics fitted with our situation perfectly.. driving along, listening to the lyrics, it was an amazing moment. what a brilliant song. I also listened to this song at the start of the year, at 2am on Jan. the 1st.. just closed my eyes and smiled, it was it was my new years resolution. sorry, enough about me. as we've all said, its an amazing song.. The songs reality, it reflects life so well that we feel we can relate to it. its is an amazing ability of John Darnielles.. capturing life in simple lines |
The Mountain Goats – No Children Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i think what people are saying is pretty right. It was nice to read through these comments, lots of angles to view it from.. I have always thought it was taking the piss out of emo/negative songs that wail and complain about everything. that its commenting on all the people who see the world as totally fucked up, and have to wail about it. The the whole song has a wail, but doesnt achieve anything, (which is why its hard to interpret), and he is possibly saying that writing these emo songs doesnt really help the situation.. The whole song is dedicated to negative images and ideas and it seems to me to be a bit of a joke.. a kind of saterical laugh. His tone and the melody back this up i think. It always makes me smile when i hear it, i dont think its at all depressing, but eh, that just how ive interpreted it before reading these comments. The drunken alpha couple is also a pretty convincing idea.. that they are in love, but its a form of love thats very deep, and that he/and her see the world in a very depressing/negative light. The fact that he always talks about "we", "we're" and "us" kind of backs that up, that although he is cursing the world, he is not alone, there is always the "us" to hold it together. |
The Mountain Goats – Dilaudid Lyrics | 18 years ago |
It is a wonderful song. I love the TMG lyrics so much.. The expression really makes this song.. and his voice, i dont think anyone else could pull it off quite like he does. The idea that its about living once, getting out there, giving it a go... "And take your foot off of the brake" ... its a great message. if you can do it, do it - The idea about the chickens, maybe hes saying that theres lots of things you cant possibly do - "'Cuz you just can't do things your body wasn't meant to" so you should make the most of the things you can do. oh, and Your childhood death_list5 ? thats in interesting thought.. why is it like your childhood? |
Badly Drawn Boy – The Shining Lyrics | 18 years ago |
God i love this song, its a very good listen.. like candy for the ears.. 764-mouser your right too.. woo go Conor Oberst. love it, love it... i just live for good music. but hey, i reckon different artists have great lyrics for different times, depending on my mood and the song. There are just so many good artists out there that it blows me away. i reckon i had it all sorted for a while there, yup, conor oberst was the best song writer, i didnt need any other. but then ive had a good listen to other bands. The shins, (Those Come is a great and beautiful song), Modest Mouse, Badly Drawn Boy, Elliot Smith, Jeff Buckley.. There are just so many SMASHINGLY good writers around.. that you just cant compare one to another.. they are all amazing.. yup, Your totally right UteranFury, perfect description.. I came across this site the other day, and had to join, its so great to be able to talk to those who enjoy good music and lyrics.. |

Red House Painters – Have You Forgotten Lyrics | 18 years ago |
yeah, tis a great song. really makes you reflect.. Just reading everyones comments, i love the way its brought out so much in those who have listened to it. Its great how we are able to relate our own lives to others and to the song itself, everyone has different ideas about what the lyrics mean because of the different experiances we've had, they've shaped us like they have shaped our interpretations of the songs. "the smell of grass in spring and october leaves cover everything" |

Bright Eyes – True Blue Lyrics | 18 years ago |
yeah, good job, elmochild and hey.lush. too true.. The thing that makes this song so god damn good is that its not about the audiences that will hear it, (except his nephew) its not about pleasing the listeners who want deep and meaningful lyrics. Conor is just showing the side of him that expresses his normal, human side.. (i dont know how to put this in writing.. sorry) not something we see a lot. as well as being a super duper writer and musician, which makes him, (well to me at least) sometimes seem a little super natural, like this wonderful person who knows so much about life.. has really LIVED, for worse and for better.. as well as this amazing talent he possesses, of expressing his stories and ideas.. he also has family and everyday thoughts about people and the world around him. Its just a nice, little song, for a nice, little kid.. lyrics tend to sprout cheerful thoughts in your head as the beautiful imagery is once again, is so full of life. My favourtie lines are "I wear blue jeans and fly my blue kite. It hangs like a bluebird until the wind dies and then the tears pour out of my blue eyes. If it is your birthday we'll bake a blue cake and then we'll eat it off my blue plates." Just wonderful phrases. Possibly there is a link with the birthday cake and his nephews birthday that as elmochild suggested it was written for. i dont know, just some ideas. |
Scout Niblett – Wet Road Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Yeah, its fantastic... her voice is just amazing. Its a very pretty song too, her voice kind of wavers and flows over the lyrics. love it.. |
