Seal – Kiss From A Rose Lyrics 5 years ago
@[Jop:29938] Love remains a drug that's the high and not the pill: I think refers to the high people get while in love with someone like drugs which stimulate the same parts of the brain. Not the pill I think means like a medication for the sadness he feels. Love still doesn't really cure the pain, but the high he gets kind of helps. The love is kind of addictive like drugs which stimulate the same parts of the brain, though, so is that okay?

Procne is a character in Greek mythology, the daughter of King Pandion of Athens. She was married to King Tereus of Thrace. Her sister Philomela decided to visit her sister's palace; while there, Tereus raped her and then cut off her tongue so that she wouldn't speak of the crime. However, Philomela managed to weave the crime onto a tapestry and passed it to her sister. When Procne realised what had happened, she killed her son Itys, boiled him, and served him to Tereus. After Tereus finished his meal, Procne and Philomela showed the head of the poor boy to Tereus, who realised what had happened. He grabbed an axe and tried to kill them, who started fleeing. While being pursued, the sisters pleaded to the gods, and the gods answered their prayers. The three of them were turned into birds; Procne into a swallow; Philomela into a nightingale; and Tereus into a hoopoe.

an animal deliberately placed in a particular environment to detect the presence of an infectious agent, such as a virus. An animal susceptible or sensitive to a particular environmental factor—e.g., a toxin, pathogen, radiation—whose illness or death serves to warn humans of an impending danger ...

Vineyards for centuries have been using roses to detect powdery mildew before the vines got infected.

The idea of using canaries is credited to John Scott Haldane, known to some as “the father of oxygen therapy.” His research on carbon monoxide led him to recommend using the birds, writes Esther Inglis-Arkell for Gizmodo. He suggested using a sentinel species: an animal more sensitive to the colorless, odorless carbon monoxide and other poisonous gases than humans. If the animal became ill or died, that would give miners a warning to evacuate.

So if Tokyo Kitty swallowed rose and canary, these sentinels would die leaving everyone in danger. Perhaps, the sentinels in our recent past culture are referenced in "so Long, and Thanks for All the Fish" "Now Willy Wonka, Major Tom, Ali, and Leia have moved on
Signal the final curtain call in all its atomic pageantry"
If Tokyo Kitty swallowed the sentinels, it might be intended to symbolize a cute, shallow distraction from the warnings from our cultural sentinels.

Tool – Parabola Lyrics 8 years ago
Inspired by Tool, if life is like y=x^2, where x is you in a specific moment of Planck time and y is your reality in that moment, the graph of the parabola exists at all times. X is an observation of specific moment on the graph. All possible states of y exist in spacetime.

Dredg – Mourning This Morning Lyrics 14 years ago
Another day, another rut
Along the highway's fault
We sat and watched him
The saddened watchman
He's all alone

like we watch people going through the same routines everyday
while small problems slowly get bigger every day we don't do anything about them
like a growing fault in a highway everyone is ignorant of on their way every morning

I'm not sure about the watchman unless he's a recurring character.

Religion might be like being a loaded artist. Religion might make us better artists in life, but it's irrational. Dr. Michio Kaku talks about religion as being a evolutionary scar. We needed it to survive, but irrational arguments get in the way of progress. Why can't we be good rationally?

Tool – Sober Lyrics 14 years ago
Here's what I see from my experience...

"There's a shadow just behind me,
shrouding every breath I take,
making every promise empty,
pointing every finger at me.

People take stories from past mistakes of people and point at people's faults (or "sins") as being bad. Then promise all sorts of things if people trust them.

Waiting like a stalking butler
who upon the finger rests.

It's wrong to judge people's behavior as bad in all cases based on the past.

Murder now the path called "must we"
just before the son has come."

I think this is Tool's philosophy. Rather than blindly following a bunch of rules based on stories of the past, we should think for ourselves. Before the son comes back, we can live virtuously without needing rules to be kind and just.

I keep thinking about the line Mother Mary won't you whisper something but the past and done

Once my family had an Easter cake with Mary on it and the nose was really long. I joked that she was lying. My dad didn't really like it much.

Then there's the line Jesus won't you fucking whistle something but the past and done.

I had another experience where my pastor broke the bread just after I had been staring at the art on the wall. A bright light happened to be in my left periferia. So when I looked at the broken bread it looked greenish.

I knew these were just coincidences, but I couldn't help but think that these stories are old. I wouldn't say they're irrelevant, but we all just keep telling each generation the same story. We're not allowed to think differently, and have our own new ideas. Like, maybe Mary lied to save herself. Why can't we just wake up and think for ourselves? Why are these stories still relevant today?

from the movie script Saved!...

"She was found to be pregnant
through the Holy Spirit.

When he had contemplated this,
an angel of the Lord

appeared to him in a dream
and said, "Joseph, son of David,

"do not be afraid
to take Mary as your wife

"because the child conceived in her
is from the Holy Spirit.

Behold, a virgin shall conceive
and bear a son."

I know this is,
like, totally wrong,

but don't you ever wonder
if she made the whole thing up?

I mean, you have to admit
it's a good one.

It's not like anyone could use
virgin birth as an excuse again.

I don't really think she made it up,

but I could understand
why a girl would."

In http://toolshed.down.net/faq/faq.html

"Adam has said "the song and video are based on a guy we know who is at his a artistic best when he's loaded."

I like the idea people gave here that there is some good that came from this artist doing something "bad". We have to take on our experience on a case by case basis. We can't just tell people this or that behavior is always bad based on a past outside of our present experience. "We barely remember who or what came before this precious moment." "You can do what you want, but you have to take responsibility for what happens. If you become addicted and a junkie, well, that's your fault." One person said on here that the artist fried his brain in the end. Well that's what happened to Bill Hicks, anyway. Am I right?

So part of the human condition with our present chromosomes is that we are flawed. We aren't the greatest artists of life. So then what does the person in this song do? He tries to help us by telling us what we're doing wrong. So he's just as bad as who he's arguing against.

I just want to start things over.

I am just a worthless liar.
I am just an imbecile.
I will only complicate you.
Trust in me and fall as well.

I will find a center in you.
I will chew it up and leave,
I will work to elevate you
just enough to bring you down.

Trust me.

Humans can hand down wisdom through the centuries about things our species do wrong. We promise people they will be saved if they follow their wisdom. It hits at the center of our being. It elevates people for a while. But eventually people are just let down. No matter how much we trust people who have good ideas, we ultimately fail anyway. We can't really change our human tenancies much.

So he's crying. Why can't we just wake up? Why do we have to keep telling each generation they are bad. Why can't we just leave these stories behind and just do good.

Nirvana is the single source of everything - The Universe and people. 23 comes up in theoretical physics. It works out mathmatically that the universe may have began with 23 dimensions. Perfection is unstable so 12 or 13 of them curled up as nothing became something.

life is painful near death as our bodies wear out

Twenty three steps to total power.

Be patient. Perhaps this life is a trial. Maybe we're here with more limited power to see if we earn the ability to have more after death.
