Funny that they used to be called fear of flying, and this song seems to be about someone being afraid that their plane will crash. I think maybe someone in the band's not a fan of travelling by plane!

I always thought it was about being straight, and having a threesome with a member of the opposite sex and a member of the same sex - but you end up looking forward to and enjoying doing it with the person of the same sex.

To me this song is about the outcasts of the world - the people that don't accept leadership blindly. Some people think that "for all you lonely boys" has a homosexual connotation - but I think it's more a reference to humanity as a whole. He's saying that he can bring together all the people that do things their own way - in my opinion anyway.
I think because of the style of the song it reminds me of the resistance against hitler and nazism but I think the meaning of the song is a lot broader than that. |

I think the chorus is just so beautiful - and it's so true. The people that need love the most never take a chance and go for it. When I listen to this song I imagine a man trying to convince the woman he loves that the risk is worth taking. Strangely the lyric that really gets to me is the one I don't even understand - Don't beg the question when the answer is war. It doesn't really fit with the rest of my idea of what the songs about - but it goes so well. |

I think there's a few things this song could be about.
First of all it could be about drug addiction or alcholism. They think the whole process of getting completely fucked up to forget about the bad things in their life is helping them - but it's actually "taking their life away."
The second thing is that it could be about parents. This is actually my mums idea, but I'm sure she won't mind me taking it. Parents always tell you "everything will be ok" and shield you from things because they think it will make you feel better but in the long run it actually makes you worse, and you end up resenting them for not being honest with you.
And the last one - it could just be about a romantic relationship. |

I think it's about being suppressed by religion. There are a lot of references to religion in the song "sisters and the fathers can't save her soul" "prophets and religious shows" and "why use the word when the word means belief." I think the "sisters and fathers can't save her soul" line is slight sarcasm - you know how when someone thinks they're helping you by putting their belief system on you?
I think maybe the whole song is about the sexual side of love being denied to a person because of religious values. |

I think this song is more about being an atheist that being a christian. Matt once said:
"Being an atheist means you have to realise that when you die, that really is it. You've got to make the most of what you've got here and spread as much influence as you can. I believe that you only live through the influence that you spread, whether that means having a kid or making music".
So the "your time is now" may refer to the fact that you only have a lifetime to spread your influence, being being the best and changing the world. I guess the "use this chance to be heard" refers to him as a musician, but it could refer to just about anything I suppose - as in being metaphorically "heard" by the universe. |

I really found this song horribly cheesey untill today. Now I'm practically in tears - it's making me *that* emotional. To me it's about standing up for something even though you know you're not going to win. The first verse sounds like it's about a romantic relationship and then as the song carries on it becomes more and more about a whole group of people. |

Amy desrcibed this in a kerrang interview as the sexiest song on the album (or that it might be the kind of song people would have sex to.) That's all I know about what the song means to Amy.
To me I think it's about no strings attatched sex with a married man. "You don't remember my name, I don't really care" suggests to me that they are not in love, and in fact don't know each other that way. The pretty flowers in the dust are the kids from the man's marriage and Mary is the wife.
I have no idea what the last two lines mean though. |

I think this song is about being "in love with your sorrow" (like how Amy said she was for a long time in a kerrang interview.) I know the feeling, it's sort of like... you're afraid to be happy, because you've been sad for such a long time and you're so used to it, anything else is scary.
btw for most of these songs I'm just putting what I think the song means to Amy... it doesn't mean I think the songs can't be interpreted in other ways. I just think it's kind of cool to have the "official" explanation early on in the comments. |

This song is written about a stalker that stalked amy for a while. She had to sleep in hotels some nights because it got so bad. Snow White is her username on evboard, and queen (it is assumed) is in the title because of how a stalker idolises their stalkee, and sees them as perfect. |

Amy Lee has said that this was the last song she wrote for the album, and it's the song that best represents her current state of mind. She said it's just about the only happy song she's ever written, and she was a little scared to show it to the rest of the band, but they like it too.
To me it doesn't seem completely happy though... "I can't say no" suggests that she's sort of trapped in some way. Or maybe everything's so brilliant at the moment she can't be negative. Either way, I am sort of sensing a more negatove undertone to it. |

I think that verse is talking about how writing music is therapy for her. I don't know what the love she's mourning is.
The open door seems to be a lot more personal than fallen. With fallen a lot of the stories were fictional (like haunted or my immortal) or their message was obscured (whisper) but here most of the songs you can put to events in Amy's life we've heard about. |

Yeah I don't know whether to just say what this song is about, but seeing as how Amy has told the press, I think it's ok. Basically when Amy was 6 her little sister died (at the age of three.) This song is written from the perspective of herself as a child, feeling the emotions she did when it happened. It's wierd sitting in the silence after you've listened to this song - it really is a very moving song. |

I always kind of hated this song untill I really listen to it, and it's actually really brilliant. It is one of the most straightforward songs of the dolls, lyrically, but what makes it is the way Amanda sings it. I sort of get the idea that the narrator (Amanda) has finally convinced Delilah to leave this loser, but Delilah has started to doubt her friend, and want to go back to him again.
I really thought "Let's see how fast this thing can go" was a reference to Thelma and Louise. |

They might have named it nemo because it has connotations with the sea. Or not, whatever. :p
In my opinion the song is about someone who looks at other people and sees that there is something very different about them. They don't fit in, they don't feel the same emotions, they don't have any friends. They don't even get on well with themself.
They've given themself the name "nobody" (or "nemo") because this is how they view themselves. But then they fall in love they find that the lover has the power to "reveal" their "true name" and the person who used to be nobody can let go and be happy again.
The "gone with my sins" part suggests that the reason they are so different is because they feel guilty for breaking the law, or sinning, or just doing something wrong.
Ps, anyone heard the orchestral version? It's just beautiful. :D |
