Dispatch – Prince Of Spades Lyrics
|
I think there is another theme going on with the deck of cards. I think every one hit the nail on the head with the king and queen. He gives us the queen of love aka hearts (motherly love, nurturer blah blah blah) The king of diamonds represents that the king/ father is a wealthy man. However the Prince being the spade i get this idea that the son may be a soldier (think of the spade as a spear). The father is angry that the son wasted his life on the military and now that the son / soldier is coming home the queen / mother is urging the king / father to let him have some peace for a change.
The prince of spades is comin' home.
Be nice if you could find some time alone.
After all, he's in line for the throne.
This portion specifically leads me to think this because it says the prince of spades / son / soldier is coming home and will need some time alone. This often happens when soldiers return from war it takes them time to shift back to civilian life.
I am not speaking from personal experience i was never in the military but i have had friends who were deployed and have had friends who joined the military even though their parents did not support their decision. |

Chris Knight – Danville Lyrics

This song is pretty strait forward by I think it is about a man and woman who were once lovers but the man beat the woman so she left the town of danville to get away from her abusive partner. The only time she will return to danvile is when she has died and will be buried in danville because that is her home town.
This song is very slow and melodic and gives you a good sense of how this woman feels. |

Steve Earle – Copperhead Road Lyrics

I've always thought smelling the whiskey burning down the road meant that when they rebuilt the car they changed it so that it would run on the alkey. Much like the early nascar drivers who would run their cars on alkey because it burns much cooler and faster then gas. |

I think this song is about a guy and a girl trying to put a failed relationship back together after he cheated on her.
I think the drum work and bass line on this song are simple amazing. It isn't much like the rest of their music but it is really good. |

Evans Blue – The Pursuit Lyrics
|
To me this song is about a relationship that is going bad because the girl keeps making bad decisions. These choices are ripping them apart. The guy keeps trying to hold it all together cuz he knows they were meant for each other. But he can't over come her bad choices to keep them together, he is starting to realize that he is beyond him he can't do it anymore. He finally tells her that it will only work if she stops making bad choices, which is seen in the very last line of the song. The pursuit of happens only begins when we stop trying to be something we are not. |

This song is about a person who grows up being used his whole life. When a person is constantly used it beats them down. By the end of the song the person is so over come by how used he feels that he commits suicide. As he commits suicide he relizes how fragile life is. |

I dont think is a religious song. To me it sounds like it is sung to a girl that wont trust him and for just this once he wants her to take hold and just trust him for a change. |

Even thoug marc may have said it is political i can't really believe that such a beautiful song to be about something political. Personally i think the song is about being in destress in a real bad situation and just falling to your knees looking to the sky and asking why me why me??? I think you could easily chang e Mr. Moon to God. No matter how hard you try to get ahead in life something brings you back down. The tail end of the song says it all:
it's time we laughed at you
mr. moon
it is time that we got ahead for a change! |

O.A.R. – Toy Store Lyrics

Through this song and Coalminer i get the feeling that the writters of these songs came from a very broken home. From coalminer you get the feeling that his father was obsessed with his job and music and never paid attention to his children, and for some reason his mom took him away. In this song you get the idea that it is just he and his mother and they are poor, so he can only afford one cheaper toy. The man walking down the aisle btw i think that is some one who is interested in his mom but his mom wont show interest in him, cuz they keep moving around maybe. I feel that he is relating this whole exsperence to life in general. I think he may be saying that life may not treat you well all the time but you should always be willing to accept love and be happy with what ever you have.
I could be totally wrong here but it is what i take from the song.
I think a lot of O.A.R. material the whole thought of what he is trying to say is spread out of multiple songs and you have to hook the songs together to get the full meaning. |

When i first heard this song i was in a relationship adn i felt like i could sing it to the girl, that she deserved so much better that what i was. But since that has ended it has changed and now when i sing along i feel like i am singing to God. I feel like i was given this great gift of life and i've pretty much shot it all to hell with all the stupid ass shit that i have done to myself and those that are around me. |

O.A.R. – When Can I Go Home? Lyrics

To me this song is about having that moment back where you said something you really schouldnt have and it cost you a relationship... so now you want that moment back so you could say something different. But since you can't go back and redo life you want the memory of the partner to leave you alone so you can move on and go home. |

I lived this song for three years in highschool. Everyone knew me or at least of me. But through out highschool i was only invited to one party, but didn't end up going. i spent many lonely days after school listening to this song on loop after school was over because unlike most other people i didn't have any where to go but to my room after school was over... I hated highschool. |

I'm surprised no one has commented on this one. One of my favorites by this band.
To me it is saying that our lives constantly sprial downward but every now and then we just have to feel the good warm sun on our backs, so we just have to choose to stop being miserable. |

i agree with the first comment 100% This whole song is about getting through the shit life throws at you. No matter how heavy it gets how slow you have to move you will eventually get through it. But also at the same time we all wish we could just run away from our own lives and just let it slide by but we all really dont have that option. |

To me this is all about the world around you over baring you to the point were you can do nothing but collapse under the weight. You do everything you can to try and save yourself from yourself but you just can't.
Personally i think this a great song to listen to after your girlfriend breaks up with ya... haha... |
