Cake – Pentagram Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Yeah this song is about women and when a girl/love interest just isn't all it's cracked up to be. The woman he speaks of in this song seems to have broken alot of hearts (the dead innocent babies just looking for love) and on the surface she looks fantastic but when you really get to know her, she's liken to satan. |

They Might Be Giants – Drink! Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song is about how people are "bruried alive" by the 9-5 daily grind of modern society and how alcohol brings them out of their routines for a couple of days only to have them thrown back to the grind. Let's drink, drink this town is so great Drink, drink cuz it's never too late To drink, drink to no big surprise But what words rhyme with buried alive What words rhyme with buried alive (this is alot like most cities/towns, where most people spend their time drinking off the work week) You could be a float for the 4th of july Based on your theme of wallflowers grown wild Look thru your peephole, you've won every prize (Refers to how normally quiet and aloof people become extremely social and extroverted under the influence) In your monkey suit on a cigarette break The lunchtime crowd, they won't even blink But you'd be sad if they did But you'll be sad... (One of the coolest lines in the song, he describes the working man as a monkey trained to do specific tasks and also makes reference to the notion that the every day man wouldn't dare step out of the box during regular hours ' but you'd be sad if they did' |
They Might Be Giants – Thunderbird Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song is definitley about alcohol. I had no idea what Thunderbird refered to and when alcohol was mentioned the whole song lit up. Man, oh man, my throat is dry Man, are you thinking what I Am? Well what about it then? Says: let's go drink! Before you fall, you have to learn to crawl You can't see heaven when you're standing tall To get the whole sky On the ground you have to lie I think this line is more about alcohol than life. I think when he says "To get the whole sky On the ground you have to lie" he's saying "To really be in the happy place alcohol takes you, you have to be flat on your back drunk" Just some fun ideas, i love discecting stuff. |
Mr. Bungle – Retrovertigo Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song really sends me in alot of directions, i see some word issues being raised as well as issues with fads and media. Before you advertise All the fame is implied With no fortune unseen (The success of trends such as music and fasion are pre-empted by the mass media) Sell the rights To your blight Time-machine (By giving into these trends you put your social status on the line, because if you decide to stop, you will be regarded as an outcast and forced into the *blight*) While I'm dulled by excess And a cynic at best (despite having much avaliable it all appears transparent to the writer and really does nothing for him) My art imitates crime Paid for by The allies (this could be a hit at the large ammount of planned plagarism that goes on in fashion and entertainment) So invest Now I'm finding truth is a ruin Nauseous end that nobody is pursuing (By following trends, noone is being "truthfull" to themselves or others, rather they are just creating false images of themselves leaving their true self in "ruin") Staring into glassy eyes Mesmerized There's a vintage thirst returning But I'm sheltered by my channel-surfing (everythings repeating itself, trend wise and the writer has grown bored?) Every famine virtual (North America hasn't actually SEEN famine but rather just watched it on TV) Retrovertigo A tribute to false memories With conviction Cheap imitation Is it fashion or disease? Post-ironic Remains a mouth to feed Sell the rights To your blight And you'll eat (I think thi smight hint at not only trends of the media, fashion etc but consumption itself, basically if you dont follow the social trend of getting a job then you won't be able to eat) See the vintage robot wearied Then awakened by revision theories (Trends are usually just revamped versions of old trends?) Every famine virtual Retrovertigo |
Devin Townsend – Stagnant Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song, to me is about Devin's experiences living with with Bi-Polar disorder. Some people with this disorder are really affected by the seasons. Their moods seem to shift from happy to sad depending on the ammount of sunlight they get. Being affected by the same seasonal disorder I could go alot more in depth with explaining the lyrics but read up on it. |
