Prince – Take Me With U Lyrics 15 years ago
Eh, Apollonia isn't that bad. Seems like Lisa or Wendy could have just as easily done the female voice, but whatever.

Sex Pistols – God Save the Queen Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is simply about resentment of authority. It's not just anti-monarchy--it's anti-everything. Even Americans such as myself can feel the song's power through feeling alienated by the government.

Matthew Sweet – Girlfriend Lyrics 16 years ago
While I can see the possessiveness angle, the lyrics probably shouldn't be taken too seriously. It is, as was previously mentioned, a relatively basic blues song (one that seemingly wouldn't receive any popular attention or radio airplay, but thankfully did).

The Police – Mother Lyrics 16 years ago
Settle down, people. This wasn't a single; it isn't meant to be a transcendent song. Andy is certainly not a great singer, but it's not like he's trying to sound beautiful. He's just trying to evoke a (disturbed) character.

Dire Straits – Money For Nothing Lyrics 16 years ago
I've heard the Motley Crue theory, and although I can't verify anything, I think that's more likely than Elton John/Michael Jackson/Boy George/Prince. Boy George is the only arguably wearing "the earring and the makeup" at any given time anyway (as for MJ and Prince, neither is a verified homosexual nor a frequent wearer or earrings or makeup). I think rather "faggot" is used colloquially to mock the flamboyance of MTV. A lot of early stars of MTV became popular more for their image than for their music (Crue seems to typify it as well as anybody).

Jerry Reed – Amos Moses Lyrics 16 years ago
I suppose if you had to categorize this song as anything, it's country. But it's hard to deny cajun and blues influences.

Steve Miller Band – The Stake Lyrics 17 years ago
I think these lyrics were simply added in so that some people wouldn't realize that it's the exact same song as Joe Walsh's "Rocky Mountain Way." I love Steve Miller Band, but this song isn't exactly the most original of tunes.

Nickelback – Believe It Or Not Lyrics 17 years ago
This is one of many excellent Nickelback songs that are superior to their hits.

Nickelback – Side of a Bullet Lyrics 17 years ago
Yes, angry Nickelback is back!

Now if only they made less pathetic generic ballads and songs like this (even an original ballad would be acceptable at this point).

Stone Sour – Sillyworld Lyrics 17 years ago
I think this song is about the music industry and generic lyrics. "So take your sentence full of things you're not supposed to say and carry on but don't write it down or you'll be gone," as I interpret it, is saying that if you say anything controversial, the music industry will not reward you as fruitfully as those who stick to the generic template.

It's nothing new (Journey made a career out of it) but Stone Sour has never exactly been pro-industry.

Genesis – Land Of Confusion Lyrics 17 years ago
Definitely anti-Reagan. The first part of the video makes it obvious that Reagan is living in the "land of confusion".

REO Speedwagon – Like You Do Lyrics 18 years ago
Easily their best song, before they sold out to the power ballad crowd. Apparently it doesn't receive the massive airplay it gets in St. Louis anywhere else.

Nickelback – Someday Lyrics 18 years ago
To the critics of this song who want to claim Nickelback is too generic, this sounds a lot like criticisms of AC/DC. However, Nickelback is MUCH more diverse. They have harder rockers like Never Again and slower ones like this. These criticisms aren't as bad as the ones who claim Nickelback has sold out: Just because you make great albums than sell twenty billion copies doesn't mean you sold out, it just means your music was very good.

Nickelback – Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting (Elton John cover) Lyrics 18 years ago
It's also been used on TBS's Saturday Night College Football. It's not better or worse than the Elton John version, it's just different. Both are good, though.

Def Leppard – Animal Lyrics 18 years ago
To those who think they're too young to be listening to Def Leppard, the legions who are also posting their ages seem to be disproving it. Stating "I'm 14" or "I'm 16" before commenting does not give your statement value; if anything it makes you sound naive. I'm 17, and I don't expect anybody to really care.

Def Leppard – Rocket Lyrics 18 years ago
I'm not sure on this one, but I would guess it ties to the history of rock n' roll. There are MANY references to bands who seemingly influenced Def Leppard.
Jack Flash=Rolling Stones
Rocket Man, Benny and the Jets=Elton John
Sgt. Pepper=Beatles
Ziggy=David Bowie
Black=Black Sabbath?
Johnny B=Chuck Berry
Gene Jenie=KISS?
Killer Queen=Queen
Dizzy Lizzy=Thin Lizzy

Def Leppard – Pour Some Sugar On Me Lyrics 18 years ago
1. Ozzy Osbourne was the singer for Black Sabbath, but also had a renowned solo career with his own, self-titled band.

2. The 80's weren't even Ozzy Osbourne's best decade for music (The 70's with Sabbath were), and his best album (No More Tears) was released in the 90's.

3. This is a DEF LEPPARD song, not Ozzy. Joe Elliott is the singer. You could argue all day who's better, Ozzy or Def Leppard, but just appreciate both for what they are: Superb.

Ozzy Osbourne – I Don't Know Lyrics 18 years ago
zps, settle down. Are you really going to be this mad about what tense is used to describe the greatness of Randy Rhoads? Rhoads is definitely great through, now, then, and forever.

Mountain – Mississippi Queen Lyrics 18 years ago
I've always thought it was about the singer losing his virginity to an older woman. She taught him everything: I don't think he's talking about algebra.

Black Sabbath – War Pigs Lyrics 18 years ago
To clarify a few things.

1. The song is unquestionably anti-war. Questioning it is like saying Johnny B. Goode is not about a man named Johnny B. Goode. Ironic seeing as Black Sabbath are supposedly the princes of darkness.

2. This song almost certainly relates to the Vietnam War. Makes sense as all members of Sabbath appear to be politically liberal.

3. The message of this song can be taken for any war. The message is of elitists in the government allowing their people to die. It happened with Republicans in Vietnam and Iraq, and it happened with Democrats to an extent in Korea with efforts from Harry S Truman.
