Björk – Thunderbolt Lyrics 12 years ago
Are we sure it's "craving" and not "craven" ? The weird feeling of craving isn't that hard to believe since it's bjork but at the same time this would make more sense.

Either way this song is absolutely breath taking. I feel like it's sort of a battle between the intense desire for love and intimacy and the idea that maybe you are too desperately seeking it out. May I crave this? Should I? Have I already gone too far?

Lydia – I Woke Up Near The Sea Lyrics 14 years ago
I was listening to this song today and got a slightly different view on it. I mean it's probably totally off but I thought it was interesting.

I saw it as maybe this guy has been screwed over in the relationship and so to retaliate and possibly win the girl back he's been having sex with other people, partially to make her jealous and partially to distract him from what he's really feeling.
I got this from the chorus because having myself recently breaking up with someone then going a little wild I realized constantly hooking up with other people wasn't going to make me feel better about the situation.

"it turns out you were into yourself" she didn't want to be with him, causing the split
"it turns out you can't fuck your way out" he's realizing that having loads of sex isn't going to erase the pain

and then in the second verse he's dreaming that the things he's done have brought her back to him, and that she is falling back in love with him, even though she's clearly not, as you can see because in the verse he goes from being sure she's falling back in love with him, to begging her for it "just fall back in love".

Copeland – The Day I Lost My Voice (The Suitcase Song) Lyrics 14 years ago
karma- he'd want his foes to drop him a line just to know someone gives a shit about him, even if it's someone he doesn't really care for.

I think this song is about loneliness and being afraid to settle down at the same time. he talks about love like an addiction (drink) because he's a hopeless romantic, but he can't commit and is ready to run at a moments notice with his life all holed up in a suitcase.

I actually like this song, I think it's interesting that some people are worried Blue Sky Noise doesn't have enough "mystery" when I think the songs are just on more approachable topics this time around, where Juturna was hard to grasp if you never saw Endless Sunshine and On Letting Go had all this religious allusion. All three amazing albums as far as I'm concerned.

Circa Survive – Spirit Of The Stairwell Lyrics 14 years ago
BlueSkyWind has a really good point, I can easily see this being about things said in the heat of a painful moment. I can also see it being a conciliation, after the argument, a way for him to say whatever happens he has no regrets, no hard feelings. Either way it's a beautiful song.

All Time Low – Sick Little Games Lyrics 14 years ago
I like where this song is coming from, and I think we can all understand feeling like we're being manipulated and taking a step back and thinking, "Wait, what the fuck am I doing?"

On that note does ANYONE ELSE here that bit where, "But if I play...How did I end up here?" that sounds EXACTLY like "Apologize" at the beginning?

Dear and the Headlights – I Just Do Lyrics 14 years ago
I agree with stuckatsea. This song is like a stream of conciousness. It's like the feeling is so overwhelming he can't even put it into words so he just settles for explaining all the little silly things that make his heart beat extra fast, that make him feel like he can do anything, that make him fall in love with her everytime he looks at her.

The Fray – You Found Me Lyrics 14 years ago
I find it interesting that a lot of these comments are arguing over a technicality. While I don't necessarily think this song has to be about GOD it is, undoubtedly, about FAITH. This song is all about the flaws in faith, and the beauty of it as well. It's extremely intense and for me very admerable when someone believes- in anything- enough that even in the worst they still wish for them. This faith and love can be transfered to anything of course, from a person to your chosen diety, but the priciple remains the same. When you believe in anything you at some point will question it, or else you can't truely see it at all. I think this song is speaking about that challenges of faith, of how sometimes it's so hard to believe and so painful not to. But in the end faith, God, whatever you'd like to call it finds the narrartor. But notice he doesn't completely forgive his faith. He ends the song with the same general question, "Why'd you have to wait to find me?"

Ellie Goulding – Starry Eyed Lyrics 14 years ago
I'm pretty sure this song is about having sex or some type of intimate encounter with someone you're really really into. I wouldn't say the relationship is serious, but based more in the moment and that "love at first sight" physical attraction.

It's really catchy though. Ellie Goulding is going to be the next big indie thing.

Paramore – Ignorance Lyrics 15 years ago
All the personal meaning is something only Hayley will really ever know. But in search of a more general meaning we can all relate to, I think this song is about a best friend who's sort of ditched or defriended you without explanation, most likely saying that you've "changed". Which doesn't really explain things since we all change in life. I think it's about being just pissed off and hurt that someone you used to call a best friend would just judge you and turn on you like that. Kind of like a betrayal.

I love how in the very beginning of the song there is this desperate sort of breath? Like one you take when you are really angry and about to fucking go off the deep end. The Spill Canvas – Himerus And Eros Lyrics 15 years ago
I actually think this song is about two people having an affair. In paticular I think the girl is in a realationship. It just fits to me. To me it's about a guy who's become involved with a girl who's in a relationship and has fallen in love with her. He hates how all she is using him for is sex and knows that's she's never going to open up to him, or end her relationship, but he loves her so much he can't stop because somewhere inside he still has hope she'll feel it too. His friends tell him it won't end well, his head tells him it won't end well, but his heart (among other things) is telling him that he can't stop seeing her.

This song, like all other The Spill Canvas songs, is so full with raw emotion. The Spill Canvas – Natalie Marie and 1cc Lyrics 15 years ago
I think this song can have a lot of different meanings, but I think one a lot of people could relate to is the one icomeanon88 mentioned.

I think lots of people have met someone just briefly at one time or another, and felt this intense attraction. And sometimes you want so much to have that person you start developing this "relationship" between you, out of little things they may have said or done, that we're never romantic at all. The more you fantasize, the more it becomes the real, and you get caught up falling in love with this person. But when you actually come to your sense, by one means or another, you realize you barely knew the person at all. It's a little maddening, the sensation, of thinking you had this intense personal relationship with someone, and realizing they could probably pass you in the street and not realize, if they weren't paying attention.

Brand New – Sic Transit Gloria...Glory Fades Lyrics 15 years ago
I think neither of them are two psyched about the sex in this song. Hence "he is the lamb, she is the slaughter". I feel like they're both really nervous, and not quite sure. I think this song is about peer pressure, and the whole teenage party secne, where sex is really common place. And I think it's about two people, who, even though they care about each other and aren't sure what they want to do this, are also trying to fit into their "roles" their peers ahve given them. The boy says that she is probably only in it for "so much more than he could ever give her" because even though he DOES really care about her, he knows in the end he will just become his role: another typical guy who has meaningless sex with girls. And the reason she seems to be so eager for this is because that's her role: the easy party girl. But notice the little nuances of the song, like

"This is the first and last time", he says,
she fakes a smile and presses her hips into his"

There he is trying to be the guy he feels he has to be, the guy who his friends have trained him to be, the cold hearted guy who's telling this girl how it is, that they're having emotionless sex and that's it. But notice how he can barely say the words, because he barely believe them. And she "fakes a smile" because she's supposed to be okay with him saying that, even though that's not what she wants.

I think this song is about sex, but also about feeling like you're predestined to be something, no matter how much you fight. I think in this song both people feel they're predestined to be a certain way. So even neither of them wants this, they'll do it because they feel like it's useless to fight. I think it comes across more like the guy doesn't want it, because it's told predominately from his view. If it was told from hers, I bet it'd read the same.

Pink – Sober Lyrics 15 years ago
I think this song can discribe all vices, all addictions, and all mental health problems. The word "sober" relates it to a type of addiction or vice, but when I look at it, I can see how this could speak to a wide range of mental health issues. For me, as a person who has dealt with depression all of their life, I see it everywhere in this song.

The idea of not wanting to be who you are, and trying to escape it, knowing that you're only digging yourself deeper, but feeling there is no way out really connects to me.

And "When it's good, then it's good, it's so good till it goes bad
Till you're trying to find the you that you once had
I have heard myself cry, never again
Broken down in agony just tryin to find a friend"

describes perfectly how it feel to really start spiraling downwards.

this song is most definitely about depression and it hits the feelings right on the head.

"these are things that I keep hidden in my belly
I can't see them but they control my life"

is exactly how it feels to be depressed. the feeling is overbearing. it controls you in every way possible. but it's impossible to explain why or what the feeling is. but it's there and it eats you away. unless you decide to do something about it.

Paramore – Decode Lyrics 15 years ago
The acoustic version of this song is the only one worth having. That being said, it is extremely powerful, and her vocals are amazing. The fact that this song is for Twilight doesn't really change that for me. I can still make a connection to the lyrics with or without the book. Obviously when you think of it in book terms the message is pretty clear, but outside of that, for me, I have a whole new idea of what this song is about.

To me, outside of Twilight, it's about a relationship that's gone bad or gone wrong, and it doesn't make sense to the narrator because they thought the knew the person so well, but looking back they can see where it all went wrong. And even though the relationship is messed up, or unconventional, they want it to work.

I don't know if it's 'lies' or 'lines' and I think it might be 'black hands' like her hands are dirty? Anyways this song is amazing, so catchy. I think it's about a girl and a guy who obviously like each other and obviously should be together, but neither of them wants to put in the effort, so they are kind of at a standstill. The relationship has gotten harder to maintain and they wish it was easy like it used to be.

I love the, "the door was always open, but never quite nearly enough to let me in".

To me this sounds like one of those relationships where you build someone up to be so amazing, you lose sight of who they are, and never really quite discover it. So when it starts to fall apart, you really want to keep it together, but at the same time you are realizing you don't know anything about this person, and have nothing in common except each other.

I agree with it being about a person who kind of makes you feel like you have a chance with them, so you keep hanging on to them, even though that everyone is saying that they're with someone else. Until you actually see them with that other person and you're angry that you ever thought there was anything between you.

The Academy Is... – Sodium Lyrics 15 years ago
it's crazy to me that this song wasn't included on the album because it's definitely the best. it's so rediculously catchy and a little more edgy. like what i would usually expect from the academy is.

as for the meaning I think this is about a relationship that ended badly and the girl got the last say. and now he's just done with it and trying to move on and she just won't leave him alone. she wants to try it again and he just doesn't get the point especially when she was the one who broke his heart the first time. so he's telling her she's got to just move on, and he's only telling her one more time that he's done, and then he's gone and they won't speak again.

don't come any closer, don't tell me it's over
don't kiss me goodbye
here we are, am I taking this too hard?
don't say it's easy, the hardest part is leaving
don't you wonder why, suddenly we're all running out of time?

those lines wrap up this song. yeah on the surface it's all about having fun and being young but i think in the end the people you spend high school with you end up caring about much more than you think you do. and in the end when eveyone goes their seperate ways it's a lot harder than you expected. you expect to be really excited but you aren't in some ways. at least that's how it was for me. and i was always asking myself "am i taking this too hard?"

this song is my favorite off the new album.

the meaning to me is crystal clear because I lived it. it's about one of your friends going off (i asssume to college) and you and the rest of your friends being left back in the town. and it's just all about how you know that person has to break out of the town and go to college because that's life, and you're happy for them and know they will succeed but it still sucks. especially because, as the time passes, the memories you thought were great seem like time they wasted when they could have been having the fun they are now.

Forever the Sickest Kids – She's a Lady Lyrics 15 years ago
I think this song is about a relationship that is very dysfunctional and volatile. They fight all the time about the stupidest of things and half the time they can't stand each other. She's a bitch and he's a jerk but they can't live without each other.

And I think the chorus is like his response when his friends are like "Dude why the fuck are you still dating that bitch? Dumb her ass!"

And he's like, "Dude shut the fuck up about my grilfriend. She's a lady and ladies shouldn't be messed with."

I also think the chorus could be him warning other guys not to get into his situation. Not that he would leave the situation for anything because he's totally in love with this girl, but he would never wish the situation upon anyone else.

So he's saying, "Dude, she's a lady and ladies shouldn't be messed with. Trust me, I'm in deep with a lady of my own."

Lady equaling bitch in that scenario.

All Time Low – Remembering Sunday Lyrics 15 years ago
I think this song is about a summer fling. I think he met this girl at a party and they had sex and developed some sort of relationship. And then as the summer draws towards it's end, with all it's crazy parties, he realizes he's in love with her. So he goes to her house or whatever but she's gone for the winter. And so he's calling all of her neighbors asking how he can get in touch with her. At the same time, she realized during the fling he was in love with her and she either couldn't or didn't want to feel the same because they could never make it work. So she leaves for home early and doesn't tell him, or anyone else where she is going or how to keep in touch with her. And as she is leaving to go, she almost decides to stay. She realizes no matter what, she does love him. But in the end she goes. I think at the same time he is on his way towards her house and the rain falls on both of them. To him it symbolizes that something has gone wrong, but for her, it symoblozes cleansing. She has to get him our of her head and let him go. She heads to the airport and while she's on the plane she realizes she's made a terrible mistake, because she's hurt the guy she loves. But she'll never tell him how she feels because it would never work between them, and there is no point.

I also think it could be what everyone else is saying and I'm totally wrong.

Either way this song is so strong for me, because over the summer I fell for this guy I was friends with. And we flirted and talked but I never wanted to take it seriously because he was leaving for college at the end of the summer and so was I. So we were kind of this undercover couple all summer and at the end of it we hooked up and it was the perfect end to the amazing summer. And I went to his house to say goodbye to him just before he left and when I got in the car and left to drive home this song was playing and I just started sobbing because I realized I was in love with him, and that I should've said something.

Okay my ramble is over but yeah, this song is amazing. Very strong.

Chiodos – I Didn't Say I Was Powerful, I Said I Was A Wizard Lyrics 16 years ago
I think this song, as others have said, about people deserting you, and judging you. But I also think it's kind fo like the narrorator can't completely feel betrayed because at one tim he did the same thing? Let me explain.

I think the first verse is about a girlfriend or friend who is a girl doing the final deserting. When he says "goodbye to beauty" I think he's talk about how music, or the music they made, used to inspire them all. But now they've all turned their backs on him for what he's made now. This may in general reference the change Chiodos has made from All's Well That End's Well to Bone Palace Ballet, musically. From their harder, the stuctured sound, to the sound they have on this album. When he says "a shadow that has fallen over this town" I think he may feel as if everyone he once knew, everything he once knew is deserting him. Like it's not safe to be home anymore.

I think the next verse supports this even more, as if by saying "you're all just crows on the power lines" he's saying that they're all just faceless gatherers who have come to judge him.

Then onto the chorus, which by the way fits Craig's voice perfectly. I think the chorus is self explanatory, "sighting of shape shiftings" is him seeing how all of his friends have transformed into people he doesn't know "dissloved into the darkness". I agree drh890 on the next three lines. Having a final, unchangeable negative opinion of something is less admirable than at least appreciating the work someone is doing and tolerating the fact that it is something important to them.

The next verse kind of seems to me like he's trying to explain how what he's doing makes him feel, how much his work makes him happy. It's like he's talking about the music, and the way it sounds, and trying to explain how much it inspires him. I think by this he hopes others may begin to understand how much the music means to him and how much he likes it, even if they don't.

Now after the repeat of the chorus, it goes into the spider analogy which I found really intersting. It almost as if in this verse he's second guessing himself, as if he's agreeing with the people who judge him a bit. "I'll rest on nets made by spiders fed on drug dosed flies" I think he's saying that like 'Maybe I am resting on what's safe, what's considered commercial' (the commercial artist and music industry being flies) and the drug dosed flies being the people who don't really know music and are kind of just hyponotized but what's supposedly "popular". But when he sings "the spider sings alone" I think he's almost conversing with himself like saying 'Yeah but these spiders (commercial artists) have to face all the criticism from all these indie bands or bands who don't see them as credible for being successful'. There's a sadness that seems to be coming through there. Like he's accepthing the fate he's been given, to be judged and criticized for their growing popularity. I think when he sings "He paced the room with hurried steps, and placed his hands upon his head" he's almost explaining how he would act out this little battle in his head. Like while he is deciding if he really is a sell out or not and while he's fighting for the music he loves and trying to deal with all the shit he's getting for it, he's pacing the room and running his fingers through his hair and stuff. When he sings "as if he were afraid" I think he's saying that as he acts this way, he almost looks like he's scared of teh judgement and scared of losing the fans and scared of losing everyone, just for doing what he wants. And when he sings "his thoughts were bursting from his brain" that just pulls it all togther. He's so overwhelmed that his head feels like it's exploding from the weight of everything.

Finally it's the last two repeats of the chorus. I especially love the last repeat, because Craig's voice sounds AMAZINg and the piano really kicks in and it's just really climatic.

The last line "as if he were afraid" and the way Craig's voice sounds completely blows me away. I think the last line is really vunerable and really him just opening up and saying 'Look, I'm proud of this, but I'm really scared of how it's going to be taken' It seems to me like he's almost pleading for his friends and the people who have screwed him over to step up and just support him at a time that he really needs it. For everyone to just open up their minds.

Anyways that's my really really long take on it, but I could be SO far off. And if any of you actually finished reading it, I'm sorry, haha.

Amazing song.
