well, didnt anthony say that it was about dani, the teenage bride with a baby inside, from californication? which sorta had me confused when i first saw the video
and with the tom petty thing, neither parties have said anything, the radio show that made discovery changed the tempo of tom petty's song and edited bits of it to make it sound almost identicle, sure they both have the same chord progression but these are simple chords people.
also, both were recorded by rick rubin which means that he obviously would have realised the chord progression was the same. So infact it is partly rick rubins fault also.
however, songs and chord progressions are ripped all the time, and i do not concider this to be a blatant rip. think about rhianna or whatever her name is, sampling other songs and singing some words over the top and making it to no. 1 on the charts... That chord progression is basically the only thing that is the same in each song. and since tom petty has not said anything about it yet you would have to think that he thinks nothing of it. tom petty and rhcp are part of the same family under rick rubin so obviously if there was a big problem, we would be told about it by either rhcp, tom petty, or rick rubin....
