Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Cheated Hearts Lyrics 17 years ago
I may be way of base, but I think this song is partly about fame.

First its about being taken in by the adulation of fans, thinking it to be love: " cheated by the opposite of love, held on high".

Second, its about forgetting about that it is the music that is the focus, and becoming self important "Well sometimes I think that I’m bigger than the sound"

50 Foot Wave – Clara Bow Lyrics 18 years ago
Yesh she does eh. And I just love the moment when the drums drop down like a staggering drunk does to the pavement.

The song reminds me of the summer I dumped my ex. I was jubilent, wondering why I hadn't done it earlier. And me and my mates spent bitching bout how stupid and pointless the relationships we had were, swearing we would never do it again... ahem.

Poppy seed tea is a way of drinking opium aint it?

Shihad – The General Electric Lyrics 18 years ago
I think its a metaphor for the prediciment humanity is in. We're all in the same train heading for the same destination-destruction if we keep treating each other like means to an end-"fuck, fuck, fuck em all and take what you can.
And he's addressing a businessperson, emblematic of that attitude, saying "to walk on water, you've got to sink in the ice" and he looks away apathetic. He thinks he's invincible. To this guy all these people on the train, are just objects, not people-just "passengers passing by"

...and shihad's saying they're gonna wreck havoc to those sort of people. Hmmmm

I wonder if its a reference to the book "you can't be neutral on a running train". Well, it reminds me of it anyways

Shihad – Sport And Religion Lyrics 18 years ago
I think it points a finger at the new bastardised strand of christianty, that preaches easy fixes, like fighting for the glory of your country in "the trenches", or making money "hacking away" to get to heaven.
Or maybe it is saying that people are treating capitalism like a religion to live by where the game is to accumulate as much as you can, without caring about others.

The last line is clever. First it recalls a biblical reference to a vengeful god that gives and then takes away. Second, they simply point out that you've got to give "to take away". That is, there are consequences for blindly questing after money, without thinking about "the score". What are the environmental cost to economic progress? Third it seems like appeal to such people to stop being so selfish and give as well as take away.

Shonen Knife – Shonen Knife Planet Lyrics 18 years ago
Gosh yes you gotta have your jellybeans when you got to Knife planet!

...is it just me, or do shonen knife seem to have a fixation on sweet things. Look at banana chips, cookie day, this one. Fruit and Vegetables for this reason seems real odd :D

Shonen Knife – Cookie Day Lyrics 18 years ago
Ah I can really relate to this song~ah, I have beautiful cookie days too and in fact right now I am munching on a cookie. And I reckon this song is just about enjoying simple things, and taking it easy on yourself.

Anyone know what singer they're referring to? I don't suppose it matters but it intrigues me~

Tears for Fears – Mad World Lyrics 18 years ago
CodyLaGros explanation appeals-the pain of living on when you lose someone.
You see, in NZ there was traffic safety ad urging people to slow down in the summer holidays. In a series of happy holiday snaps, people fade away, sometimes leaving one person, sometimes none. And at the end a camera slowly zooms out showing an empty holiday house.
It just makes you so sad, thinking of the absense, and how the world feel so frozen and meaningless without the people you love. Don't speed kids!
