First off, I think Toumas has probably wrote a few songs about Tarja(when she was in the band, not including this one) and i think he explained how he felt about her in those songs, so saying "did you ever read what I wrote you" is Toumas wondering, ddid you never understand what i wrote to you...did you not realize it or did you realize it and not care? |

The devil is way on the bottom of the ocean and he tricks some etherial and innoncent creature ( mabey a mermaid, angel or mabey just a woman) to bear the anti-christ. Most of the song i think its them battling it out. I see Tarja's character as good, Tapoi as the devil. I draw this from the lines
Prayed for your..." (woman praying for the devil) and then the devils says NEVER PRAY FOR ME!! So the anti-christ is born and does whatever he is supposed to do and Tarja's characters kind flood the earth to purify it. |

Are the Sirens in this song the same sirens menchoned in "The Siren"(From Once) in Greek mythology( I think). Also black velvet is an type of wiskey made in Canada. So it could be about being depressed and drinking to death. Although I don't know if Toumas would write a song like that. |

I am really glad Nightwish put a really heavy track on this album. It really adds alot to the album. The song is about Marcello and how he basicly changed and blinded Tarja. With awakening the tears will begin is almost like (how blind can you be cant you see that you choose the long road..) saying that when Tarja finally "wakes up" and realized that Marcello has "Blinded" her she will realize how stubborn she was and break down to tears. To my everlasting shame silence took me is Toumas saying I should have done more to stop what Marcello was doing to Tarja before it was too late. I believe Toumas loved Tarja so Marcello really fucked things up to put it bluntly. Great track. |

Strange name for a song but wow what a song it is. "Just a dying faith, On a heaven's gate" is a great line. Everyone knows the tale of the ugly duckling. Toumas puts his own spin on it, like he does so succefully with tons of his other lyrics. |

Seems to be about our killer from In Absentia. I think its basicly about how no one understands him and how his mind is so messed up. The last part, On the mountain side Hold me in your gaze But it's over now 'Cos I got kids to raise reminds me of somone having an afair in the country and then leaving because they have kids with someone else(mabey a wife). Im sure it has a meaning much deeper but that was the basic idea i had. |

Of all the Porcupine Tree songs out there this one is probably the most disturbing, i don't know why it must be the way SW sings in it. (strip the soul with the video is also pretty damn disturbing) I think its about being obsessed with being a star or being obsessed with somone that is a star. Fits with the theme. |
