Counting Crows – Miller's Angels Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Part of what Tito4687 posted is in the VH1 version of "Mr. Jones" too. So sad. Maybe it's about being overwhelmed ("Can't you hear me, cause I'm screaming") by trying to choose between wrong and right and to figure out which is which ("Children dreaming of wrong and right / Wrapped in grace and in sin / They come out of the blue sky / ... But you never know where they're gonna go") and just wanting it to go away ("I did not go outside yesterday / Don't wake me, please don't wake me / 'cause I was dreaming / and I might just stay inside again today"). |
The Almost – Never Say I Told You So Lyrics | 17 years ago |
perhaps it means he's tired of seeing her with the wrong crowd or guy or living at/in the wrong college or city or w/e, and he feels like she could have it better but he can't/won't change her mind |
Art of Dying – I Will Be There Lyrics | 17 years ago |
not sure on all the lyrics; any suggestions would be lovely |
Regina Spektor – Samson Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I agree, hab204. Sounds so much like Joni Mitchell... I recommend Joni Mitchell's "River" to anyone who likes Regina Spektor's voice here. |
Fort Minor – Slip Out The Back Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think it's like a father talking to a child, explaining why he was never around. Now whether or not that means he committed suicide, I don't know... "I know you felt unprepared / But every single time I was around I'd just bring you down / And I could tell that it was time to be scared / That's why I / Slipped out the back before you knew I was there / And I know the way I left wasn't fair / I didn't wanna be around just to bring you down / I'm not a hero but don't think I didn't care" I think reinforces the father-child interpretation. |
SouthFM – Where Did You Go Lyrics | 17 years ago |
it's a friendship or a relationship between two people who keep pulling each other up when the other is down. one of them may be more naive than the other at this point, but they're both going through hard times and the narrator is willing to help the friend/lover deal since he's been there before / is going through the same thing. |
SouthFM – Dancing Like This Lyrics | 17 years ago |
a pretty simple message but a gorgeous song... the meaning's pretty apparent I think... I think the "it" that's "calling us" is the relationship and its potential... |
Ben Lee – The Debt Collectors Lyrics | 17 years ago |
How are there no comments? This is one of my favorites of his, in part because of the lines 'you were sleeping like a racehorse in the evening / all that power and motivation and the endless broken omens...' Anyway, meanings... best guess is that he's got some problems and this girl is going to make him work through them ('...But you hid it in my luggage...', 'One day I might feel all right again') and that 'One day it'll be all right again.' But I'm really not sure... there's plenty within the song that could contradict that... any other guesses? |
The Killers – Read My Mind Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i'm seeing a bunch of references to Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Thunder Road’. Anyone else? Someone told me that some magazine said that brandon flowers references springsteen in 'when you were young', so i don't think this is too far out there: 'I never really gave up on breakin' out of this two-star town I got the green light, I got a little fight I'm gonna turn this thing around' 'Thunder Road': 'It's a town full of losers and we're pulling out of here to win.' 'The good old days the honest man' 'the honest man' = Springsteen? 'the restless heart the promised land' ‘Thunder Road’: 'Come take my hand we're riding out tonight to case the promised land' 'it's funny how you just break down waitin' on some sign' ‘Thunder Road’: 'You can hide 'neath your covers and study your pain Make crosses from your lovers, throw roses in the rain Waste your summer praying in vain for a savior to rise from these streets' 'I pull up to the front of your driveway' ‘Thunder Road’: 'Screen door slams, Mary's dress waves Like a vision she dances across the porch as the radio plays... Hey what else can we do now except roll down the window and let the wind blow back your hair? Well the night's busting open, these two lanes'll take us anywhere...' 'with magic soakin' my spine' ‘Thunder Road’: 'Well show a little faith, there's magic in the night' 'The teenage queen the loaded gun the drop dead dream the chosen one a southern drawl a world unseen' ‘Thunder Road’: 'There were ghosts in the eyes of all the boys you sent away They haunt this dusty beach road In the skeleton frames of burned out Chevrolets They scream your name at night in the street Your graduation gown lies in rags at their feet And in the lonely cool before dawn you hear their engines roaring on But when you get to the porch they're gone On the wind' 'Slippin in my faith until I fall' ‘Thunder Road’: 'Well show a little faith, there's magic in the night' 'woman, open the door' ‘Thunder Road’: 'Climb in back, heaven's waiting on down the tracks' 'The stars are blazing like rebel diamonds cut out of the sun' ‘Thunder Road’: 'It's lying out there like a killer in the sun' |

Brand New – Handcuffs Lyrics | 17 years ago |
by Alchemyrules on 11-28-2006 @ 04:51:43 PM [Vin] is striving to be this better man but he is doing things in his life that he knows to be wrong, but because of the weakness of man he does them anyway. He "drowns crying babies" rather than figuring out why they are crying and looking for a way to stop it. He'd arrest someone yet he doesn't have the means to do it. So instead of looking for someone who does he lets this person go free. by Midnight_Cowboy on 11-19-2006 @ 11:36:33 PM Second, you don't have to be cold and numb to write a song like this, you just have to be good at expressing the way you feel. by Eyecon on 11-19-2006 @ 07:30:35 PM Duude, Jesse's numb. The fame and success and stuff must be getting to him.... by Avert Disaster on 11-19-2006 @ 12:30:22 PM he is offically going insane. look kids, writing (or singing or performing) a song doesn't have to mean that you personally feel the way the character in the song feels; songs can be art even if they don't express your story/emotions. so calm down about fame going to their heads and vin (or jesse) being a creepo, mmk? |
Park – The Trophy Wife Lyrics | 17 years ago |
no emo retard but me. and you, apparently. i know, i know, i know. other than my consciously naive (so not really naive at all) interpretation above, i think this song's meaning is pretty obvious. doesn't have to be a wife, just a girlfriend. pretty sure he wanted her for the sake of showing her off, and he probably hoped he could win her love. she's using him for whatever status she gets by being with him. it's tearing him apart, all this faked attraction, and he either really is attracted or just wishes he were so that this could be an honest relationship. i'm pretty sure he just wants out now ('your perfect arms are more like ropes around my wasteline'); the sick feeling in his stomach is getting unbearable. |
Park – The Trophy Wife Lyrics | 17 years ago |
ok so I know this is almost certainly not the intent here, especially not with a song like 'Angles and Errors' from the same band on the same album, but I'm almost through reading The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand (if you're looking to start reading her work, btw, try Atlas Shrugged first; it's definitely better), and this has Dominique Francon + Peter Keating allllll over it. |
Park – A Message Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think I prefer the acoustic version, but the original's not bad at all. I think the meaning's pretty apparent, but out of curiosity what does 'I'll take two of the white ones' mean? |
The Goo Goo Dolls – Iris Lyrics | 18 years ago |
by southernnightingale on 07-26-2006 @ 02:12:17 AM "I don't want to miss you tonight" doesn't mean that they are apart, it means that he doesn't want to miss out on understanding her the way that he feels she understands him. yes. thank you. effectively perfect right there. |
Dashboard Confessional – Rooftops and Invitations Lyrics | 18 years ago |
good job on the lyrics... a few things... the itunes liner notes provides some lyrics... they're pretty helpful: its 'steeplechases and bars...' and at the end of what you have it continues: 'under the cool sheet where the welcome touch of skin and skin will meet hot on the inside where the girl's prize is at the tip of your tongue. when every move and each impulse brings clarity to stay like this is everything you'll ever need. she just might get you lost and she just might leave you torn but she just might save your life is she gets you any closer. can you believe your eyes?' absolutely gorgeous song. anyway, hope thats helpful. |
Dashboard Confessional – Slow Decay Lyrics | 18 years ago |
And I’m here alive with satellites and Friday nights and no one to judge me For the things that I’ve done at all So how could I live with that? maybe the idea that if everyone just washes over what he did, it cannot have had any meaning... it becomes pointless in everyone else's eyes because they are unwilling to judge him or his actions. or maybe that he's really disillusioned that no one cares that he killed a bunch of people he 'didn't hate' - what kind of a country wouldn't find something wrong with that? |

could 'i lie for only you, i lie well, halleluh' be more like 'i lie with only you' than like telling lies? |

i saw bn in concert the other night... gorgeous... and after the 'youre just jealous 'cause we're young and in love' he finished with 'i'm just jealous 'cause you're young and you're young and you're young...' awwwww. |

anyone get a slight hint of panic! at the disco? just in how readily they take this ridiculously upbeat song... the beat, the music, the key... i don't know... maybe? |
October Fall – It Was Summer...(Baby Steps) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
"Waking up inside a basement with my best friends" yes! "And here's the best part, it's got the best start No one saw this coming from a mile away So unexpected, I know you meant it If I can't have you I'll dream about you So I'll be sleeping cause this dreaming is as close as I can get to you So close my eyes Don't wake me up" awwwwwwww, yes, exactly... maybe 'can't have you' just means she's not there... not that she doesn't miss him too.. that's how i get it anyway.. |

The Get Up Kids – Long Goodnight Lyrics | 18 years ago |
touchthestarsforme, god, yes. and i think its also like its not going to work, but this last goodbye is so sweet and "If it all ended tonight, you know that I wouldn't mind. It'd be back to good old times before it won," as in, he could die/sleep/whatever with this as the last thing in their relationship, and they wouldnt have to go through the post-breakup sadness. because the relationship is too hard, but he still likes her (and maybe she likes him?). |
The Early November – Baby Blue Lyrics | 18 years ago |
"i tried so hard to make this perfect" "for just in case that day"... that day that maybe it works... but they "can't see eye to eye together"... they both like each other so much but its just not working... "we always knew that you worked better": better than he does/did, perhaps, or maybe ... i always want to add "alone" after he says that... 'you worked better alone'... not sure why... anyway, even though he knows its not going to work, its still true that "nothing's ever hurt so much for me than to let you go..." since its not working, why should they keep trying at it? and if theyre not going to keep trying, why should they keep having to feel all this pain? thus, "i don't want you to love me anymore." soooo sad. such a gorgeous song anyway (or in its sadness, perhaps...). |
Bruce Springsteen – No Surrender Lyrics | 18 years ago |
alternate lyrics, from the Live 1975-1985 cds: Well, we busted out of class Had to get away from those fools We learned more from a three-minute record, baby, Than we ever learned in school Tonight I hear that neighborhood drummer sound I can feel my heart begin to pound You say you're tired and you just want to close your eyes And follow your dream down Well, we made a promise, we swore we'd always remember No retreat, baby, no surrender Like soldiers on a winter's night with a vow to defend No retreat, baby, no surrender Well now young faces grow sad and old And hearts of fire grow cold We swore blood brothers against the wind Now I'm ready to grow young again And hear your sister's voice calling us home Across the open yards Believin’ we could cut some place of our own With these drums and these guitars ’Cause we made a promise, swore we’d always remember No retreat, baby, no surrender Blood brothers on a summer’s night with a vow to defend No retreat, baby, no surrender Now, out on the streets tonight, the lights are growing dim The walls of my room are closing in Now we can sleep in the twilight By the river bed With this wild open country in our hearts And those romantic dreams in my head ‘Cause we made a promise, we swore we’d always remember No retreat, baby, no surrender Blood brothers on a summer’s night with a vow to defend No retreat, baby, no surrender No retreat, baby, no surrender. what a gorgeous song. my goodness. makes me wish my friends and i could stay like this forever. at the beginning of this live version, he says, "this one's for friendship." and that about sums it up. |
