Two Tongues – Tremors Lyrics | 15 years ago |
so basically, the homo-erotic cover art tells exactly what most of this album is about: max bemis and chris conley being in gay love with one another, and singing about it. i'd like to see this live to see if they make out. i will say this though: its not quite as bad as in defense of the genre was, so that's a plus. |
M.I.A. – World Town Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"world town" could be any 3rd world country/town fighting for economic or governmental independence. Again, alot of the lyrics are reminiscent of Sri Lankan war propaganda. The Liberation Tigers in Sri Lanka have been accused of using 10 year old boys to fight for their cause. |
M.I.A. – Come Around Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This is very different from alot of M.I.A.'s other songs, but I still really like it, despite how commercial it is. Her lyrics on this track are AWESOME. I love picturing her as this kick-ass revolutionary figure. She might be talking about the civil war (or any war) raging in her homeland (Sri Lanka), and how life (including sex, music and parties etc.) goes on in the midst of the crisis, overseas or not. So Timbaland's shitty rap part can fit into the song if you think of it in that context. But the teepee line, and the baby girl really tarnish the whole song. |
I Can Make A Mess Like Nobody's Business – But When The Little Fellow Came Close And Put Both Arms Around His Mother, And Kissed Her In An Appealing Boyish Fashion, She Was Moved To Tenderness Lyrics | 16 years ago |
this nothing even remotely like conor oberst. just cause it has a folksy sound does not justify comparing this shit to what oberst does. ace enders is good, but to compare his work to bright eyes is laughable. this song is mediocre. |
Metric – The Twist Lyrics | 16 years ago |
who is the man who sings in this song? it sounds like david bazan, the singer in pedro the lion. its probably not him though. |
Motion City Soundtrack – Hold Me Down Lyrics | 16 years ago |
its a loetter from his girlfriend saying that even though she has feelings for him,he holds her down. she likes him but the relationship just can't work because he is lazy, and perhaps makes no effort. she "ought to be used to" him sleeping by now, he is the "laziness of afternoon". but at the same time he makes her "burst and bloom". this is her final decision to leave him despite her love for him. i think this song is perfect to describe that sentiment. |
Say Anything – You're the Wanker, If Anyone Is (feat. Jordan Pundik, Chad Gilbert & Aaron Gillespie) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
oh. thanks, i cant fucking wait for the new album. its going to be fantastic |

Minus the Bear – Women We Haven't Met Yet Lyrics | 17 years ago |

The Fall of Troy – The Hol[ ]y Tape... Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i think this is their own interpretation of the labyrinthe in house of leaves as a psychological place, rather than physical. when i read the book i thought of it in a similar way. the labyrinthe shifts and changes unpredictably, and all the characters in the book who go on explorations in the house react to it differently. holloway happens to go insane, and proceed shoot his peers, and eventually himself. and the brackets are because there were inexplicable black marks on zampano's work and rather than guess what was under the marks, johnny just put brackets or X's where the stains were. ..my favorite book. |
Circa Survive – Holding Someone's Hair Back Lyrics | 17 years ago |
um, eternal sunshine of the spotless mind anyone? |
Sparks The Rescue – The scene Your bedroom Lyrics | 17 years ago |
the emo-est band, EVER. but... soo goood. |
Circa Survive – House Of Leaves Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this song owns me. i went back and read the book, and it also owns me. i strongly reccomend that you read it, it is lifechanging, but for reasons you can't quite define. it may look a little intimidating or pretentious at first, but it is completely worth it. this could applu to other characters in the novel, but it seems as though it is mainly about the protagonist, johnny truant. truant stole what he couldnt afford when he took zampano's things on the documentary. his obsession with the work caused him to suffer from nervous breakdowns, insomnia, and eventually unemployment. the reader gets a feeling that they have gotten them into something they really shouldn't have started about halfway into the book that parallels truant's anxieties in the novel. the first part maybe referring to his obsession with the stripper ("thumper") in the beginning, and how she barely seems to notice him. he gradually loses his desire to go out and socialize and drink with his friends, and finds his dependancy on substances waning due to his incessant curiosity and determination to unravel the impossible mystery of zampano's insane masterpiece and navidson's incalculable labyrinthe. |
The Sound of Animals Fighting – There Can Be No Dispute That Monsters Live Among Us Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this song seems to be an attempt to redefine music to the listener.. the lyrics are poiniant, and the incongruity of the music reinforces the point they are tying to make: that music is not only about hooks and catchy choruses, it is art, and people should broaden their horizons, and change their close-minded attitude towards it. there is not always harmony in the world, so why should there always be harmony in art? with that being said, it is actually really frustrating to listen to this song, so i personally avoid it. pretty hypocritical. but this song has a kind of ironic effect. it contradicts itself, and its confusing. i like what it says, but i hate to listen to it. eh? |
Portugal. The Man – Chicago Lyrics | 17 years ago |
thanks george orwell. animal farm anyone?? book is about government corruption, played out by animals. the pigs in the novel are the once righteous leaders who eventually become more and more humanlike and eventually morph into power-hungry dictators. the animals attempt to build a windmill, but it gets blown up, and consequently, burns down. ...maybe not a perfect match, but the parallels are somewhat undeniable. |
Say Anything – The Writhing South Lyrics | 17 years ago |
he uses ugly imagery of sex and drugs to describe the greed of the music industry and the process of being signed and selling your music. music executives do not care how the music comes across, so long as it makes money. they are not soncerned about the content, only the profit. |
Say Anything – You're the Wanker, If Anyone Is (feat. Jordan Pundik, Chad Gilbert & Aaron Gillespie) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i cant find this ANYWHERE and its the only say anything song i dont have. its really necessary for my life, where do you go about downloading it?? anyone? please? |
Bright Eyes – Puddle Stomper Lyrics | 17 years ago |
why is this a little boy? |
Cursive – Art Is Hard Lyrics | 17 years ago |
its not just about any one band or artist in particular, or even one specific genre. the song is meant to express his frustration at the whole artistic process, and the ugly, greedy, corporate business that it has yielded. like in order to have credible, "artisitic", and/or successful music you dont necessarily have to be pulling your creativity from experience. that goes for all types of art and music. if you need to force pain, angst, or heartbreak to make "quality" music, its not really genuine or artistic, just dime-a-dozen, run-of-the-mill, average, "its-been-done-before" shit. |
Circa Survive – Meet Me in Montauk Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"leave just as you came, with everything" & "leave as fast as you came, no invitation, no where to go from here".. i think. |
This Providence – Wolf In Sheep's Clothing Lyrics | 17 years ago |
oh and the every one takes a bite part... every one takes communion at mass, its like the overly pious all eat up the religious bullshit that they are told. idk i think its obviously a song questioning god and his intentions, and the people who feed on scripture and believe to the point where they are ignorant and arrogant. |
This Providence – Wolf In Sheep's Clothing Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this song seems as if he was decieved by god, and lost his faith. like hes saying religion is all a lie to him.. "wolf in sheeps clothing" jesus is called the "lamb" of god. i like this song, what i dont understand is why alot of the other songs on the album are really religious. i wish they'd leave religion out of it, because the music is excellent and his voice is awesome, but the lyrics in a few of the songs are really gay, so in order to enjoy the music you kindof need to tune out the lyrics.. unless youre really into jesus. |
This Providence – The Road To Jericho Is Lined With Starving People Lyrics | 17 years ago |
the song is an allusion to the parable of the good samaritan only its gay. this is like the only bad song on the album |
Circa Survive – House Of Leaves Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this is a drug trip. like, you can see the colors and feel the room spinning if you close your eyes and listen. and it gets better every time you listen incredible. |
Gregory and the Hawk – Bravo Charlie Lyrics | 17 years ago |
her voice is so haunting and beautiful in this (and evry other song she sings) love it. |
Stars – Petit Mort Lyrics | 17 years ago |
these lyrics perfectly describe the unevitable failing of a summer romance. i would know. sooo good. |
Say Anything – Slumming It With Johnny Lyrics | 18 years ago |
this is my favorite song. not just say anything, but in the whole world. i saw sa play in nj (sooo good live.) and max said that when he was younger he was fascinated with new jersey. so the begining part is about nj. i love how he describes industry as beautiful garbage. perfect. i think its beautiful in its own way myself. almost as if humankind's mistakes may be ugly and dirty, but they're also beautiful because we learn from them and move on. i love new jersey. the place he played in was certainly a shithole town, so i think he definitely got a taste of the beautiful garbage. i think when he talks about his family (and its TROPHY unfaithful spouse) he says he sees the same things over and over again in his travels across the country, which i guess he resents, because that means he may be as original and smart as he likes, but some aspects of his life can still mirror others peoples. i also love the way he says the earth is green with envy. so poetic. and my favorite part is his last when he tells us to free ourselves from mental prostitution- my favorite quote. |
Say Anything – We Will Erase All Life on Earth But Us Lyrics | 18 years ago |
this isnt a song about unrequited love or anything like that, i think its about his angst at society being devoid of love and humanity. hes using his music to say he's not just some corporate robot or number in society. also that humans are selfish in destroying ourselves and our environment for personal comforts. i love it. |
