Eminem – Not Afraid Lyrics | 13 years ago |
ATTENTION EMINEM HATERS!!!! damn i didnt kno there were so many LEGEND-quality rappers who have the balls to sit here and try to shit on him. He even said it in the song, bees with no stingers... drop dead, etc truthfully, i didnt warm up to Em until recently, but this song is incomperable to maybe any song, let alone a ripoff of his previous work. I write all kinds of music, and i hear this album, it motivates me. But hey I guess if there werent so many douchebags to talk shit using media's nice big force field for safety, how would ppl like Me and Em know how fuckin great we were |
Lil' Wayne – Drop the World Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song to me is Wayne talking about what he's doing with his music. The hook is great, he's talking about how many people have written him off, and written the album rebirth off, so he says "i could die now, rebirth motherfucker"...cos he's at the point in his career where he has enough bank to do whatever the fuck he wants with his music, and "Hop up in my spaceship and leave Earth, motherfucker I'm gone"... is very, very Weezy. It means that this thing is about more than a fucking rock album, its about Wayne, and when you want something to be personal, you try hard to make it stand out. He's trying to take his music to whatever new heights he can whether we come along for the ride or not...which is the mark of a true artist. But we will all come along anyway. The title line is very fitting. It's more than just Weezy. A lot of rappers have gotten tired of talking about the cars and girls. It's about time. So what he's saying is "Write us off now, Bitch" The top gets higher the more that I climb -W.F. Baby |
The Smiths – You Just Haven't Earned It Yet, Baby Lyrics | 14 years ago |
He also says "Hand in glove, the sun shines out of our behinds" in Pretty Girls Make Graves...and he does this in one other song, I just cant seem to think of it |
The Smiths – Unhappy Birthday Lyrics | 14 years ago |
You are terrible. If you don't like Paint a Vulgar Picture you simply don't get the band. That's like hating Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now |
Built to Spill – Trimmed and Burning Lyrics | 14 years ago |
So nobody notices the blatant references to Rev. Gary Davis and The Smiths? |
The Smiths – This Night Has Opened My Eyes Lyrics | 14 years ago |
And all of the aforementioned covers are terrible |
The Smiths – This Night Has Opened My Eyes Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Also, maybe its just me, but it seems like the stories in Morrissey's words transpire from song to song. This reminds me of the line in This Charming Man "He said, return the ring". And to me it seems like Handsome Devil is a song through the perspective of the "Charming Man" and the truth about his intentions with everybody's favorite passenger. If I'm right then I'd assume this same character is our narrator from "This Night". Probably just a way for Morrissey to channel the different sides of his persona. |
The Smiths – This Night Has Opened My Eyes Lyrics | 14 years ago |
although I'm sure it was inspired by the story everyone has mentioned, to me personally this is about trading your youth and innocence for responsibilities, without necessarily knowing that you've made such a decision. The couple think they should marry and become a family, raise their child together, for one reason or another, and against our narrator's warnings. To me the line "This night has opened my eyes, and I will never sleep again" means that you're realizing that your youth is gone and so are your dreams, and that they will never come back. My guess is that the story ends with the two becoming estranged after realizing that their love wasn't as real as they thought it was, after raising their child in what was probably a very poor environment |
The Smiths – Oscillate Wildly Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song is all Johnny Marr. Morrissey did literally nothing on this song. Am I the only person in the world who realizes how similar this song is to Joy Division's "Decades"? I much prefer the Smith's song, which has a much more complex melody, and a better pop sense, but I think that Joy Division were probably influencing Marr at the time And stop talking about Oscar Wilde. There's gotta be plenty of forums for you goons to go do that this one is about music |
Oasis – Born On A Different Cloud Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Ya know, there's nothing wrong with showing your influence but it seems like these guys use other artist's lyrics in like half of their songs. That's a little much. But did anyone notice Johnny Marr playing guitar on this song? Johnny Marr is the man |
Oasis – Born On A Different Cloud Lyrics | 15 years ago |
hey you.....scoey...is mental illness enjoyable or are you completely miserable on top of being completely fucking retard Oasis...good band Beatles...most important act in music sing J.S. Bach |
Modest Mouse – A Different City Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"My eyes rolled around, all around on the carpet" genius |
Modest Mouse – A Different City Lyrics | 15 years ago |
it means both. its yr standard Isaac Brock wordplay. Isaac, Doug Martsch, Elliott Smith, Sam Coomes, etc...all those guys pay a lot of attention to the way a word sounds as opposed to what it might mean in the context. for example, the line you stated is meant to sound like he's saying "drift" when he's actually saying "dripped", which leaves it open to much more interpretation. If you read the lyrics in the booklet there's always at least one line in every song where you think "is that really what he says or is this a misprint?" And by the way, if you don't know the other names I mentioned up there, you're slacking. |
Michael Jackson – Come Together (The Beatles cover) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
MJ is the king of pop, but the Beatles are the kings of everthing. Add Y.S. Bach, Elvis and MJ, and you still don't have a power that equates to the Beatles impact, the Beatles record sales, the Beatles talent, their legacy, etc. No offense to Michael, but NO ONE can out-do the Beatles. Argue it if you want I won't check your response anyway, but if you disagree you just don't know music as well as you think you do. Granted, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but there's a big difference between what we like and what is just good. |
Misfits – Dust To Dust Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Danzig is way better than Graves. Nobody even gives a shit about anything that guy did except for his time in the Misfits, which he spent just trying to emulate Danzig. He'll never compare to the real thing. This is a sick song, but come on |
AFI – I Wanna Mohawk (But Mom Won't Let Me Get One) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
is "TV Tat" a reference to the band Television? Cos theyre fuckin amazing. |
Led Zeppelin – In the Evening Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think it's basically a song about being a man. At first it's talking about a girl, obviously, but it seems like later on he's being more general and talking about life but I think the point he's trying to make is life's a bitch, fuck it and don't let it fuck you, cos if you're getting fucked all day, it's nobody's fault but yours. Be a man, suck it up, if you're feeling like a pimp...go and brush your shoulders off (thats right i said it)...its all the same fuckin thing |
Led Zeppelin – Down by the Seaside Lyrics | 16 years ago |
theres no slide on this song. no, not even at the beginning. not in the verses. nowhere |
The Cure – Alt.End Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i think its about dying happily in your lovers arms. giving like a feeling of safety knowing that everything else you two did right or wrong ends with you two together. this is a pretty common theme with their music think about the album disintegration but in recent years they seem to have put a more philosophical and dare i say spiritual element to their music, at least roberts lyrics....i dont want to be reborn into this world i dont want nirvana cos ive found it right here |
Led Zeppelin – Stairway to Heaven Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"this is a song of hope" -robert plant |
The Beatles – Don't Let Me Down Lyrics | 17 years ago |
um.....yeah you people who think this song is about sex are fucking idiots 'i guess nobody ever really done me, like she done me, she done me good" john fucked so many groupies theres no way in hell that yoko was the best pussy he ever got. its talking about, LIKE HE SAYS IN THE FUCKING SONG, being in love for the first time |
50 Cent – Gotta Make It to Heaven Lyrics | 17 years ago |
you dont make songs about guns and think youll ever get into heaven. cos then youre either a fake or a killer. a bitch overall. good job 50 |
Jack Johnson – Traffic In The Sky Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this is gonna sound like im some douche trying to plug some dude, but anyone who thinks Jack Johnson is good....buy an elliott smith album and prepare to be blown away. dont expect it to sound hawaiian |
The Beatles – Something Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i really dig this song, but idk.....it isnt georges best by a longshot. its a good love song, yes, but john and paul can write those too. long, long, long......blue jay way.....here comes the sun....think for yourself.....for you blue.....I ME MINE for fucks sake. norwegian wood? come on |
Elliott Smith – Let's Turn the Record Over Lyrics | 17 years ago |
moonlight drives and gardens in the sun |
Elliott Smith – No Confidence Man Lyrics | 17 years ago |
okay, no. no shooting up. elliott didnt do heroin in 1993. not even in 94. and i know what you may say "well, Needle in the Hay"...no.....youre wrong, no offense, because it does seem plausable, but you are, in fact, wrong. this is charlie as in flowers for charlie. the rubber loop is a belt hes getting hit with. think about the song Roman Candle, or Waltz #2, etc...his parents heavily influenced his songwriting, and he truely felt like that guy was everything bad that his mom wasnt |
Elliott Smith – Coming Up Roses Lyrics | 17 years ago |
pushing up daisies |
Elliott Smith – Coast to Coast Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i think he feels really weak around a girl. like hes tried to make his love known, and he is too foolish to realize that she loves him just for what he is, even though he feels so below her. it makes him angry and he tends to make it worse even though they both care so much. |
Elliott Smith – Amity Lyrics | 17 years ago |
god dont make no junk but its plain to see that he still made me that line didnt even hit me until a few days ago |
Modest Mouse – Dashboard Lyrics | 17 years ago |
ok this is to that Santa pice of shit. fuck you man. fuck the word "noob" its never too fucking late to get into something, especially a kickass band. im not an "indie" kid and i only got into MM within a year. fuck you though cos i appreciate it just like anyone whos heard it for years. modest mouse was on this rising tide building up through all their great albums....sad sappy sucker....lonesome crowded west....all the way up to the brillian tidal wave we call The Moon And Antarctica. Good News isnt even a horrible album, float on okay i see why people are disappointed. But Ocean Breathes Salty, Black Cadillacs, Bukowski, Satin in a Coffin...all brilliant in their own respect. i like this song more now that ive read the lyrics but i still dont like this song. it doesnt matter that its poppy, elliott smith played pop, as did the beatles, and both of those acts are perhaps the most talented ive heard, i dont like the new sound. it sounds like its from 2007, which is gay. good bands should set trends not follow them. i expected more from modest mouse. they are more creative than this. fuckin christ. this sound is obviously overly Marr influenced, and maybe it is better than most music today but thats like saying cancer is better than aids. go back 7 years. NO ONE made music like Perfect Disguise, Life Like Weeds, etc. any indie band could have made this song. |
Modest Mouse – I Came as a Rat (Long Walk Off a Short Dock) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
REINCARNATION! a man who has shown distaste for western religion likely finds cleansing in eastern religion. think life like weeds, karma payment, etc. "i dont know but ive been told, you never die and you never grow old" |
Modest Mouse – Blame It on the Tetons Lyrics | 17 years ago |
well yes, this is in fact a brutal ripoff of Unwind by Sonic Youth. however, most Youth (minus SYR) from Washingmachine until now seems to be influenced greatly by bands like Modest Mouse. the influence is mutual. some modest mouse songs sound like something the youth would do, and vice versa. thats what happens in music. to call modest mouse sellouts makes you an idiot. and to call them a bad band makes you a retard. they're fuckin amazing when you give them the chance. |
The Beatles – Nowhere Man Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this isnt a "make a change" hippy song DONT POST IN HERE IF YOUR ONE OF THOSE STUPID BEATLES "fans" who thinks they're hippy-dippy led zeppelin fans who like acid. your opinions are wrong john wrote this about himself. he is the nowhere man. he felt like nothing people do really takes them anywhere. like no one is really "alive". he then realized that this applies to everyone, that we are all nowhere men. its a big explaination of human life |
The Beatles – A Hard Day's Night Lyrics | 17 years ago |
okay lets get 2 things straight ONE: fuck everyone who says early beatles suck. You suck. A lot of it wasn't even origional work, and the songs that were origional were sculpting rock and roll out of blues. What came next is only because of what they did origionally. Help, Rubber Soul, and Revolver are perhaps the greatest albums in history, which were made midway throught the beatles career. "nowhere man" "think for yourself" "eleanor rigby.....insane. TWO: im almost positive that this is about sex. it was at the height of their promiscuity and they were really having fun with it. what kind of work does a bealte do at night? think about it. "i should be sleeping like a log but when i come home to you i find the things that you do will make me feel alright" STOP FUCKING THINKING BEATLES SONGS ARE ABOUT ACID!!! they didnt even do acid until 1967, this was written in 63. sgt pepper was really the first experimentation with it, which wasnt even during recording anyway, so even if they started out on drugs, in the studio they became something else |
The Beatles – Drive My Car Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i think this is a guy being talked to by his girl, who is saying that she still loves him, and though she is optimistic about her future, whe wont let that comprimise THEIR future "i wanna be famous, a star on the screen, but you can do something inbetween" "working for peanuts is all very fine, but i can show you a better time" sounds like shes saying that the normal life he leads is okay with her, and she doesnt feel like he isnt good enough, but she want them to enjoy a bright hollywood future. |
Elliott Smith – Baby Britain Lyrics | 17 years ago |
OR its about someone who is an alcoholic thats really obbvious. tip of the hat to anyone who completely blew past that while looking for some deep meaning i noticed the BTB similarity.....use it on Bottle Up and Explode! and Cupid's Trick but anyway....elliott was fucking genious, and everyone told him that, and it makes sense that he would be wasting his potential..the whole "for someone half as smart" "we knocked another couple back, dead soldiers lined up on the table" those are shots of some hard alcohol |
Elliott Smith – Waltz #2 Lyrics | 17 years ago |
the first people in this thread need brains. yes, its about elliotts stepfather, but no, he wasnt a junkie when this came out, regardless of what needle in the hay eludes to. he did it later. this song fits in with Roman Candle, Southern Belle, Abused, etc |
A Perfect Circle – The Noose Lyrics | 17 years ago |
doesnt match the song? you're a fuckin retard. i heard that from MAYNARD on his commentary on the apc dvd aMOTION, in which there is a live version of this song which is slightly longer and both maynard and billy do commentary on the dvd....douchebag |
A Perfect Circle – The Noose Lyrics | 17 years ago |
or its about a heroin addiction, like maynard said and maynard at a meeting with his "friend" (the "friend" being the junkie). He (and his "friend") is in a meeting right out of rehab, and hes feeling like he has just overcome something. then he hears this guy speak, who has been severely fucked over by drugs and is not recovering after YEARS. he talks about people who have been in for months or less and come out feeling like life owes them something, like they have survived WWIII....not to realize that they are the person who caused the problems, and they have to go repair broken relationships. the origional line that guy said was "dont let yr halo choke you to death when its still down around yr neck" if u havent caught on to the fact that i think maynard is lying about this "friend".....u suck he allows interpretation so u can form-fit it to any recovery situation like that...but thats the real meaning |
A Perfect Circle – Pet Lyrics | 17 years ago |
THANK YOU RUZKIN!!!!!!! "This song is definitely about George Bush and the war, on eMOTIVe, Counting Bodies to the Rhythm of the War Drums, is a remix'd version of Pet..." its not a remix cockass. no one calls passive a remix of vacant......they are totally different songs with completely different intentions... how fuckin dumb can people be... i can understand being wrong, but when people explain that yr wrong and they are right, then more people post the wrong persons stupid idea.......what the fuck people? 3000 years ago people wouldhave been killed for such insolence |
A Perfect Circle – Orestes Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i like how the first three posts sum it up perfectly, then we get idiots who wanna go and try to make this out to more than it is...this has nothing to do with H. it has nothing to do with abortion. shut up |
Oasis – Live Forever Lyrics | 18 years ago |
"as for the beatles thing, well i see Oasis as a far superior version of the beatles" sorry, but that is the stupidst thing ive ever read....moreso than dr. suess..... come on....NO ONE is the beatles, especially not Oasis, who are just a poor attempt at reviving them....true Oasis had cool songs, which is why i even care, but just becuase they sound like the beatles doesnt make them the beatles.....it makes them arrogant assholes....they claim such a "talent", yet they lack the talent of being origional....and they had to be obvious rip-offs too dont discrace the name of the beatles over a band like oasis. there shouldnt be "versions"of a band, each band should be its own thing....which Oasis is not catchy jingle, though BUT IN NO WAY WILL ANY OASIS SONG EVER COMPARE TO THE MASTERY OF THE BEATLES... I want you (she's so heavy) come together nowhere man eleanor rigby helter skelter strawberry fields forever if that didnt make my point then i give up |
David Bowie – Ashes to Ashes Lyrics | 18 years ago |
"...so, barely a handful of you have actually commented on the meaning of the song...maybe you all should find a hobby, go outside or something... " the irony in that statement is unbareable, as that asshole did the same thing "Who cares? It's a good listen, the lyrics are what they are. " who cares? people who go to SONGMEANINGS.net anyway, the song, i really doubt the space thing...more likely drugs, or perhaps about mental rebirth or spiritual prosperity bringing a significant change in u that leads u into tomorro...burying the skeletons in yr closet....ashes to ashes |
A Perfect Circle – Pet Lyrics | 18 years ago |
ok...let me try this again.... MAYNARD ADMITTED THAT THE ALBUM THIRTEENTH STEP IS A JOURNEY THROUGH THE VARIOUS STAGES OF ADDICTION, regardless of what he might say to Fuse tv...... i dont know if any of you have ever been addicted to any OPIATES (heroin, oxycontin, morphine), but you do become the drugs Pet. "The boogeymen" are your friends, whom you no longer need. "Swaying to the rhythm of the new world order" = "drugs are cool, dont ya wanna fit in?" and yes, people can die from other things than war, like, say, drug overdose? does anyone know the story behind the noose? maynard and the rehab story? no? GET aMOTION and theres no way its about a parent to child relationship. the sarcasm in the lyrics is ridiculous "they dont give a fuck about u, like i do" true, the wathing is a strange coincidence, but that explains the existence of Counting Bodies Like Sheep |
Blindside – All of Us Lyrics | 18 years ago |
using the word MOFO immediately erases your thoughts from all conscienceness Fuck Christians who take stories literally....the Bible is just a lot of metaphors that are trying to show you how to be a good person...not a slave to God.... plus the catholic church are corrupt, power-hungry nazis horray for blindside, though |
Nine Inch Nails – The Hand That Feeds Lyrics | 18 years ago |

WRONG!!! the guywith the crazy hair is Buzz from the Melvins, u should be able to tell by the fact that he has a guitar not a bass, and Wal basses are very unmistakable.....and DONT EVER USE METALLICA TO REFERENCE TOOL!!! Billy Howerdel is the reason APC exists....he has more crerative control than even maynard.......and anyone who saw Some kind Of Monster knows exactly how much control Kirk hammett has.....Metallica is in NO WAY APC |
