Animal Collective – Chocolate Girl Lyrics

Someone posted my lyrics and Avey said they were far off... but he didn't want to give them to us because it would spoil the mystique. Makes sense, I guess. I doubt they are brilliant. Their hidden aspects make the song better. |

Panda Bear is just a joy to listen to. And yousendme's lyrics should be put up. I love this line about guilt about childhood:
should have been so much more willing
to help out with all the things that i felt like we needed |

dongdong - I never said it wasn't from their first album. What are YOU talking about?
Although, I guess the tribal sound really influenced their best album -- Feels -- so that path they took wasn't really bad in the end, eh? |

This song's okay... but Fickle Cycle is way better and should have replaced it. We already have a long, drawn-out song in Daffy Duck. |

This song is absolutely amazing. Where did Animal Collective drift off and stop doing tribal songs? (I admit, some of them are very good, and all of them are creative, just not as satisfying.)
When the storming piano comes in after "Love me!" I get chills... this is an extremely epic song. The synth is done perfectly to add to this unusual poppy treatment from Animal Collective. |

I don't understand -- in the album version, his voice sounds amazing with it's softness... but when he sings this song live in the link provided on this page, it sounds terrible because he's pretty much speaking the words. It's not that hard to whisper into the mic... nevertheless, haunting song with an excellent mix. |

THE BEAT AND SYNTH SOUND SIMILAR TO THAT GENRE OF MUSIC. The Shins are an experimental band so they were bound to cross into that genre sometime, and it looks like they have. (In my opinion.) |

Regarding the face -- It sounds like his metaphor is for someone trying to make him into something he's not, and expecting him to enjoy the change. I don't know WHAT they're turning him into -- maybe trying to convert him to their philosophy? (Since this song seems to be about afterlife judgement.) |

Pshh... yeah, these are way early versions. And I think we all agree that even with good production, it's still hard to hear what Mercer is actually saying half the time. (Mainly because he uses lyrics noone expects.) |

Wooooah, buddy, calm down.
I agree that it's not too loud, the whole album is produced perfectly. But I maintain that the beat and synth sounds similar to Linkin Park, or something else of that electronic rock genre. However, the lyrics/vocals take it in a completely different direction, much better IMO. (As I don't particularly enjoy Linkin Park.) |

I have to add that this is my favorite song from the new album. It has to be the darkest Shins song yet.
In an interpretation of these shady lyrics I've collected, I would say it's about a sinner/atheist/agnostic who is afraid of some kind of judgment in the afterlife. "The worst part" could be this judgment. |

I was SO disappointed after hearing this on the album after listening to Australia... from the beginning you're expecting some kind of western rock song, then he starts singing. Honestly, it was a struggle for me to glean any lyrics out of this, they're all probably wrong. Anyway, it's just an intro to Phantom Limb, not really a song in itself. |

Damn, well, I think it would sound better if it was "why you're you" ... now it sounds a little more lame. Still a great song though. I love the accompanying voice in the chorus. |

Awesome. The lyrics aren't final yet, but even with my interpretation, I think he's talking about freedom of philosophy. You don't have to believe in what you don't want to, and nobody is going to punish you for that. |

This is by the most mainstream sounding song on the album. But I still can't see the radio playing it, the lyrics are TOO complicated for a general audience. Kind of sad. I like the song, but it's the weakest on the album in my opinion. (Weakest of a great album.)
I'll probably catch some stones for this, but the beat and synth sound like Linkin Park. His voice melody is completely different though. |

I'll fix the lyrics, because honestly, it's hard to tell what he's saying most of the time in this song. This is similar to Pam Berry in style, but sounds more like a cathedral mass song in the intro. |

This song is extremely beautiful. I love the dark guitars in the background of the chorus. I'm not willing to call the lyrics brilliant yet, since some of them are off, so it's slightly unintelligible, but they are still very poetic. |

Sum 41 – Grab The Devil By The Horns And Fuck Him Up The Ass Lyrics
| 18 years ago

I think this song is about the stupidity of all religious sunday-goers who believe Satan is an existing personage. He's telling all out there to "fuck" that idea "up the ass." Now, at first, I thought this song was about homosexuality, since most of their songs are, but turns out it isn't. By the way, I agree, if any of you believe in Satan, you're a jackass. |

Sum 41 – What I Believe Lyrics

From analyzing the lyrics, you can tell it's written from the viewpoint of a pedophile lifestyle. Kind of gross if you ask me, but whatever. I'm noticing a trend in Sum 41 songs, where not only all the lyrics suck, but they are mostly about homosexual insecurity and pedophile stories. Weird, huh. |

Sum 41 – In Too Deep Lyrics

I agree, this song is definitely about being homosexual and feeling insecure with the accompanied lifestyle. I'm not sure who in the band wrote this, it could have been any of them.
ALTHOUGH, I also hear that they asked a six year old in an assembly at Tucket Elementary to write some lyrics for them and this is what came out of it. Weird, because he has something in common with Sum 41: his lyrics suck balls. |

Wow, the lyrics in this song SUCK. It would take a four year old three seconds to write. Listen to the chorus:

Wow. These are musical geniuses we are dealing with. |

Gr... I guess adding >'s messes up the comment... let me try again.
"But you'll find those lingering voices
Are just your ego's attempt to make it all clean and nice and make a moron out of you"
You guys interpretted it differently, but coming from a religious background, this could easily be talking about the Holy Ghost or the Holy Spirit, which is usually voices in one's head interpretted as from God. And, I hold the same views as Mercer regarding this.
"You might find some fools at your doorstep
Hustling the latest changes to the book that's the strangest
In an attempt to multiply"
Missionaries, anyone? Well, one person guessed that, but thought it was referring to JW's. Well, by far the biggest missionary program is held by the mormons, or the LDS church. Not only this, but they also carry a "book that's the strangest" called the Book of Mormon. But it could easily be referring to the bible as well, since they go by that in their religion.
"Huddled up in fear and hate because we know our fate and it's a lot to put you through."
Death is our fate, and fear is often the thought that comes with that idea. And since it's so much to put them through, theories and ideas have been made to decide what's going to happen in the afterlife. But I think anyone can agree that MOST if not ALL are still just theories. (If you're religious, you would think MOST) |

Good job acting the part of the ignorant, bumpy grimes. Keep your generalizations outside, please.
The shins aren't like that? Mercer, who writes the song, said SPECIFICALLY that he is not religious. Now you can take that to mean he is athiest, agnostic, or whatever you want to call him, but he is obviously against religious ideas and in this song, it's not only clear, but if you're not able to see it's concerning religion... well, I don't know what to tell you.
