Handsome Furs – Dead + Rural Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Brilliant song! The band played a fantastic show in Aarhus, Denmark last night. When Dan presented the song he said that it was about going to a high school where your nickname is "faggot". He was quite drunk, but I think he meant it |
Mimas – Cats On Fire Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Amazing song. Both live and on the album demo. Can't wait to hear the final version. What it's about... Is very hard to say, though. I'd love to hear what people think |
The National – Fake Empire Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think the first part of the song is meant to describe the simple life for the Americans in their empire. There's a very laid-back feel to both the words, actions and Berninger's voice. The last part of the song tells of the current state of the empire. "No thinking for a little while" - we allow things to happen without really thinking about them. We postpone whatever consequences there might be. |
The Velvet Underground – Stephanie Says Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I hate it myself when people constantly want songs to be about drugs, but I'm pretty sure I heard Lou Reed say this one was... It would make sense with the "Alaska" nickname and an addiction to cocaine, or "snow"... He may have talked about another song, and I'm probably wrong, but every fourth song in the world is always interpreted as a drug song anyway :) |
Amy Millan – Skinny Boy Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Isn't it: "It's sordid..." and: "some love, some prostitution Some denial, some doubt, some dance They're coming with swords through the backdoor..." and: "monday, tuesday, on your knees" I'm not sure, I just think it sounds that way. Anyway, it's a brilliant song, which brings great expectations to the album! |
Stars – The Comeback Lyrics | 18 years ago |
The same goes for me, HyperGlitter! Amazing version live. The lyrics work better in the noiser version as well |
Stars – Celebration Guns Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Oh, and they have played it live now :) I was very surprised when they started performing it on sunday. |
Stars – Celebration Guns Lyrics | 18 years ago |
The song's main theme is Guantanamo Bay, but there's of course more to it. Amy Millan has said this in an interview: "That song specifically is about Guantanamo Bay, which is to me one of the things that, 30 years from now, will be thought of as the most disgusting thing, and my children will say "I can't believe you were alive when people were doing that." So, in a way it's about love, because I can't really comprehend how people could do that to one another -- take away their rights completely in a time when we're supposed to be so advanced."
